This shitty game was unplayable for me without the RAM fix, It had constant stuttering. Uninstalled after 1 hour with the fix, it's a boring corridor shooter with 2006 graphics. Glad I pirated it (I only did so to see how "NEXT GEN" it was). Back to Dark Souls I go.

Perhaps the big ram manufacturers got together and put a load of money into a hat then gave it to activation to up the ram specs. They know that the start of the generation is going to be a big upgrade period for pc owners who have basically not had to upgrade for the last 4 or 5 years because of the long console cycle. Either that or they just made it 6 because they were aware of big memory leaks but had to get the product on shelves..

To be fair about the RAM usage, due to Windows, you'll almost never utilize all your 4GB of RAM no matter what you're doing. My 8GB setup uses over 5.8GB in Ghosts, with less than 1.5GB used in Windows. That's more of an issue with Windows for its RAM allocation. Although requirements for nearly every modern game is exaggerated, they have it that way so they don't get sued. Also, the requirements are probably set like they are for 60 fps gameplay, considering the CoD standard for all consoles is always 60 fps. As a side note: With the views you get on RU-vid, how did you not have a really good PC at the time? xD

Here's a simple fix for IW: Leave the minimum requirements as they are, and remove the 6GB RAM lock. People can't complain about fps issues etc. if their pc does not meet the minimum requirements, yet we would be able to play. I would be happy, if you shared this idea on their Twitter, Facebook etc.

How's this standard COD game using up a freaking 33GB of HDD space?! I know some PS3 games use a full dual layer bluray but that's because some of the data isn't compressed (I'm a layman when it comes to this stuff, so please forgive me if I'm wrong). But look at some of the multiplat titles. They use a huge amount of space on the PS3 bluray, but fit on one DVD (in some cases: two DVDs) for the 360. IIRC, COD MW3 fit on ONE single disc on the 360. That's a DVD, by the way. So... a DVD holds roughly 5GB I believe. 4,6 or something like that. I heard there's dual layer DVDs that hold up to nearly double the amount of a normal DVD. That's still less than 10GB for MW3 on the 360! Now... why would COD Ghosts suddenly need a freaking 33GB of space? That's not even the official number, but what you showed us in the video, Bunnyhop! 40 or even 50GB for COD Ghosts? But even the 33GB is absolutely insane! I remember hearing that Crysis (the original), with ultra high textures and everything, was less than 20GB on the PC. So there goes a possible argument out the window that "it's because it's a next gen and PC game, duh!". This is just a marketing stunt by Activision, and I would be surprised if the hardware companies were NOT involved in this. I'm sure they are very much involved in the games industry and try to push for less optimized, more demanding games. And even if they are "optimized" in relative terms, some of the system requirements are just ridiculous. I think they want to make people buy the next iteration of their slightly faster graphics card, special RAM or maybe a slightly faster CPU, just so they can do the same thing again in a year or two! Look at the games we can play on PS3 and 360. Look at God Of War 3 and Ascension, look at all three Uncharted games (2 and 3 look insanely good), look at The Last Of Us! Look at Halo 4, or at the newer Gears Of War titles! Forza 4, Grand Tourismo 5 and 6! The graphics are VERY good! And even multiplatform third party titles look very good nowadays. Dead Space 1 still holds up today. So do its sequels, with DS2 and 3 looking VERY very good. Dark Souls 2, Lords Of Shadow 2 and MGS5 will come out for PS3 and 360 this year, and they all look breathtakingly beatiful! Just look how good these games look on mid range hardware from 2005! The 360 has mid to high range hardware from 2005 in it, the PS3 has a relatively fast CPU from 2005, very fast RAM but only 256MB, and a Geforce 7800GT with 256MB VRAM. And Crysis 3, on PS3, looks quite formidable. But isn't it curious that PC versions need and insane amount of processing power? Theoretically, if such old hardware can run Crysis 3 (granted, only in 720p and of course on moderately low settings if compared to the PC, but it looks GOOD!), shouldn't a PC from 2014 with a Geforce GTX 780 be able to run the game at 1440p, ultra high with an insanely high framerate? I don't know how high the framerate for that is, but I lately read some framerates for games like Arkham City or BF4 on PC on a 760GTX, Core i5 something and 8GB RAM. If the old consoles can run Arkham City and it looks good and runs at a nice framerate of 30+FPS, why do I need an improportionally more powerful PC to run the same game? I bet that if there was a PC version of The Last Of US, you'd need at least a mid range PC of 2013/2014 to run it in 1080p at a satisfying framerate of 30 to 60FPS. I'm sure that would be the case.

It should be noted that one of the reasons you had a spare gig of ram may have been because of your paging file, windows begins to store memory in your paging file long before you get to the "end of the rope." You were likely using more than 3Gigs of memory unless you've removed your paging file.

I wonder: did the texture settings reset to medium each time because you didn't have enough RAM for the big textures?

I think it's more to make COD look statistically better than BF4 after all the crap they get.

i just remember playing HL2 with lower than system requirements...ah the nostalgia: sub 10-25 fps, 640x480, directx 7 mode and all lowest settings and 90 seconds loading time...i also player counter strike source like this...not having shadows was the biggest hinderence

Also, tessellation will increase object detail and does take more ram but it has a minimal impact on the way the game actually looks. The same sort of effect can be created with textures, tessellation simply requires more ram because they are rendering crevices instead of putting them into textures.

Why would any of these graphical settings be touching system RAM? Wouldn't they be limited by the GDDR on your graphics card? I'd expect things like Terrain Detail to eat up your graphics card memory, but I have absolutely no idea why they would even attempt to tell us that they are instead using up system memory.

That's funny, I've also heard a lot of people say "just buy more RAM". Did they miss the point on purpose? There was a similar issue with a Star Wars game a few years ago, I can't remember which one though, that prevented the game from being executed on a laptop. Even if you matched the requirements. The error didn't provide any reason for it other than "this game can't run on a laptop".

It says that the 40 gb are for "mega textures?" Where are these textures because they certainly are not in the game. File inflation? Why is it that pirated versions of this game are half or less in file size and don't require 6 gb of ram? These are all rhetorical questions, of course lol. I've been bothered quite a bit by false system requirements on PC games for a while now. I mean, according to a few websites my computer doesn't even meet the minimum graphics requirements for most games I play (sure, I might not be able to play any of them on the highest settings, but they work well). And I find myself wondering why developers exaggerate their minimum requirements in so many cases.

Fun fact I'd like to add. Did the same thing you did to check to see ram usage. Got nearly 4 to 5 GB of ram being used with just the game running. Might actually be a memory leak.

I can't believe they asked for 6 gigs when only ONE of the consoles even HAS six or more gigs available for games (The XBone uses only five for games and the other three go to the OS/kinect), and was ported to the PS3, which has only 256 MB for games (it also has 256 for video, but I don't think most of that can be used for games).

It's common practice to bump up the minimum requirements when certain configurations may run on older hardware if it hasn't been optimized for such things. Better to put them too high and have users pleasantly surprised that it runs better than expected, than to put them too low and have users unable to run the game, despite meeting the requirements.

I'd like to just add this. CoD Ghosts run on my Optiplex from 2004. Granted it has 4GBs added, and a decent 2012 GPU, but that's besides the point. Thr CPU is the same (Pentium 4) and the RAM is 4GBs. I wouldn't be surprised if it runs elsewhere. (The FPS varies, but sat around 25-30FPS in fights, and 40-60 in areas with not much going on).

When i play this game monitoring Physical Memory Consumed with Rivatuner and HWInfo64 it reads almost 7 gb of ram used and 1.6 gb of video memory used man, maibe your mistake is to use windowed mode to monitoring your consumed ram.

Because on X1 game have allocated 6GB of 8 , and I'm pretty sure they actually did PC to console port and then made console to PC port. That is why missing HiRes textures , they never have been in it , for the same reason and 4k images disappeared from the Nvidia site.There is also the reason for the missing ~10GB. CoD-G is most direct console port in next-gen title

I always assumed they did to say "hey guys look at our next gen game with it's Xtreme graphics and stuff that require 6GB of RAM", although the Multiplayer could be more demanding if you have to keep track of 16 people over the whole map instead of several bots in one linear section that can be streamed in and out

I think I know why they're doing this: The Placebo affect. By forcing you to have a ton of hardware to even play the game, it causes your brain to perceive the game's graphics as better than what they already are.

I think they were trying to make this game sound like it was more beefed up that it actually is. What I mean is, games like battlefield and crisis do require more power, and they show it in game play. If cod required more power, then that means it must be on par with games that require the same hardware. If course, it isn't. That's my guess.

That is ridiculous. What about the people whose specs are below the min who still wanna try the game? Come on developers! I finished the campaign of Battlefield Bad Company 2 when it came out with a single core cpu (Pentium 4), when its minimum specifically state you need a dual core. While they weren't completely wrong (incredibly juttery framerate), I still completed it and still loved the game despite the abhorrent framerate.
