Welcome to AI in modern gaming. It's exactly the same in Ubisoft's Ghost Recon games, and basically any other modern shooter with a campaign mode (the few that exist, anyway).

In the original mw2, there’s a mission where you storm makarov’s forest cabin. While you’re downloading the files, you can run around with grenade launchers and shoot down helicopters before the soldiers grapple down. THAT’s freedom in gameplay
That’s how most cod campaigns play bruh, shooting down helicopters is such a small freedom in gameplay. You could not stealth your way through that level, you could not avoid hostiles, you killed enemies that you were forced to kill regardless, there is no freedom in that. It’s cool, but a small illusion of choice in a level that plays exactly the same for everyone who touches it. But it was a banger level so I won’t rip into it that hard. But no, that’s not freedom in gameplay. It’s just using the weapons they gave you smartly

@@igorlukyan206 Just like Safehouse in COD 4. There were 6 or 7 buildings and they didn't know which one Al Asad was in and the level let you assault them in pretty much any order you wanted. Nearly all the buildings featured multiple entry points and the whole area had different ways to engage each building.

Especially in the blizzard level with soap and roach that lead into the snowmobile section. You could stealth kill, go in loud, or draw them out and have soap snipe them. I just don’t think the initial comment was the best example to use for “player choice”, I think it fit under weapon diversity much more which is also something I thought mwii was lacking in
Shadow Company's betrayal completely derailed the campaign for me. There was absolutely no setup or solid reason for them doing so. You were total bros with Graves, until you suddenly weren't. The escalation of events that happened after Graves stopped the convoy from entering the base would have never occurred if they just acted logically. Then they manipulate the fuck out of you by having Shadow Company slaughter civilians, even though in the previous missions, Graves was specific on preventing collateral damage. It's like the writers were creating a completely different story, but half way through, the project lead gave them a "MW2 callback" checklist that needed to be completed. Also, the whole "Ghost team" thing was some of the most cringe inducing fan service I've seen in a piece of media since The Rise of Skywalker.
Thats the point. Graves is a professional PMC. Its business for him. He gets a mission, he follows the orders, he tries to play nice with the people he works with, but at the end of the day its his job to follow orders of the person who hired him and he tried to give them a chance to leave but they wouldnt. Anything after that is fair. Dunno how the guy went from being the most enthusiastic about saving people and then is just murdering people in the streets and whole towns like its nothing.

I'm just overall disappointed that they didn't keep the shocking and gritty tone of MW19 into the sequel. When I had heard it was about the cartels, I was pretty excited to see the sheer brutality and uncomfortable situations based on actual graphic events while having Simon Riley face his past once more with a narrative that sends a message that's very real in our armed forces. MW19 took Lone Survivor's "Where do we draw the line" narrative and MWII's could have been commentary about service men dealing with PTSD while we get Alejandro's POV of growing up in Mexico and the rise of the cartels , basing this fictional cartel on CJNG and the Gulf Cartel in missions that are inspired by real life events, designed in a way to make the player feel uncomfortable and shocked. But instead we got a comic book action game that undermines the game that came before it, which was a pretty down to earth and gritty take on the war on terror that reflected what had happened in real life and sent a very real message for casual people to absorb and think about. But this time around, there's no message, there's no grit, there's no reality. And while the gameplay is diverse and fun, the story just isn't enough to get me hooked. Imagine if we had missions in Mexico that gave the same feeling as Clean House or Hometown, making the players more aware of the situation in Mexico and understanding mental health for veterans. Hopefully we'll get back to down to earth CoD campaigns once again that show us the horrors and realities of the wars they portray.
@Flare In the mission “Cartel Protection”, after you leave town, the battle in the forest mountain resembles Operation Red Wings but underwhelming since you kicked their asses and didn’t feel overwhelmed or helpless from protecting your guys. The Embassy in MW19 captured that perfectly with the Marines.
The part that irks me the most is what synth brought up a couple of times: The "good guys"/protagonists here are way too civil. They have 2 of the people causing the most problems during the campaign (cartel boss and hasan) and they don't just cap them and throw them in a ditch? Or at the very least detain them until things blow over? Every armed forces group have their moments of "bending the rules" or "avoiding paperwork" to put it lightly. And that's over very trivial things. Hasan is a direct threat to potentially how many nations and he was aided by a cartel boss. Nobody is going to shed a tear for either of these people but no it's against the rules to deal with them? Even if it was an issue, wouldn't it be way more interesting if Alejandro or his partner shoot her in the heat of the moment due to their hate of her influence on their hometown, and deal with the consequences during the game?
You know what it largely boils down to? Besides the fact most of the dev team for 2019 (many of which worked on the *golden* titles back in the day) either quit or were fired and replaced, 2019 was initially designed for the M rating the series has . . That's been one of the biggest problems with this franchise and modern gaming as a whole, these games are increasingly made for children thus they churn out tame cringe that doesn't even remotely convey the seriousness of war and death and violence.

When a game gives you a wide open area to walk around and kills you because to wonder off too far makes me wish for a return of invisible walls so at least we can die of our own stupid decisions instead of the game penalizing for crossing an invisible line. This is why I hate games that have a "Return to the Battlefield" warning. Let me play the game, dammit.

What surprised me the most in MW2's campaign is how little I actually got to SHOOT at bad guys and feel like I'm part of actual WARFARE. MW2's problem is that it tries to be a cool, slick, tactically inclusive espionage movie and NOT a fun and engaging first person shooter game. The is evidenced by the overabundance of cut scenes and scripted linear events. I had to remind myself during the rage-inducing crafting mission (and the pointless Amsterdam missions) that "Oh, this is the FPS titan Call of Duty in 2022." I honestly can't think of one genuinely fun and memorable mission in this campaign.
Dude the ac-130 mission pissed me tf off. Anytime I shot anywhere NEAR a building I failed the mission and had to restart. Even if it was just splash damage from the machine gun. Nope, restart mf

Everyone was super hype and it was a hallmark on how cod can do realistic tactical game. In mw2 there was no missions like that again. cod campaigns were already terrible after the first modern warfare. they just became a copy paste pastiche of hollywood films like sicario and dozens of others

WW2 was overly simplistic, and shallow, and the campaign starts out fine but then becomes B grade level stupid later. And Vanguard is just shit on top of shit on top of shit. Sledgehammer is just a joke in my opinion. And they had to be saved by Treyarch to make the Zombies mode for Vanguard since they spent all their precious time on that useless and completely braindead campaign. They're a joke.

I don't know what you mean by interactive movie, but you had more ways of approaching situations than most recent campaigns, allowing the player to approach in 2 or even 3 different ways. As for "the message", if your terminally online, you can interpret approximately 7-10 seconds of a roughly 5-hour campaign as "promoting the message".

I liked the difficulty, but some levels and gimmicks went on for way to long. And that whole "we have to follow the rules" was just bullshiet. I mean Trump killed an Iranian General in real life and bragged about it, but they can't kill one in a desert or a drug lord because muh rules.

I usually don't mind reboots if they feel necessary for the franchise (like the game franchise has been dead/forgotten about for a long time) however this isn't really the case with Modern Warfare. Like you said, they're pretty much just copying the same game but rearranged the story and updated the graphics. Hell, they didn't even bother changing the title, so now we have to rely on googling the game's release year in order to specify which game we are referring to (this is my least favorite part about reboots). I would have much preferred that they just created a new story continuing from Modern Warfare 3 instead of just rebooting a franchise that I personally don't think needed to be rebooted in the first place.

I honestly think the plot armor is the worst part of it. I'm not saying chacters have to die, just especially in a story like this not everyone statistically would make it out unharmed. Especially since in the orginal games Gaz dies in the end of CoD4, then Ghost, and Roach both die in MW2. Latter on ALL of the DELTA team fricken Delta dies at the end of MW3. IW had balls when it came to that stuff back then, not now. Also I do want to say I like the new actor for Shepherd, they managed to find the one guy I would be happy with. Still not as awesome as Lance, but still a great job. Oh and Ghost's 3d mask just looks off to me, much preferred the simple bacalva with a skull jaw.

You want hard? Play United Offensive on Veteran. That game had some real BS moments on top of a percentile health bar. I loved every moment though, CoD 1 was where it was at, CoD 2 blew up the series and really kicked off the CoD online scene

You need a degree most likely to get a job as a writer. The system seems to be set up to beat any originality or rebellious thoughts out of you. So you end up with a lot of passionless drones with a good cv stinking up entertainment. The best writing in games and films seems to be coming out of Eastern Europe, where people lived through hardship and have something to say. A bit of a rant because I can’t sleep.

20:01 In a better COD game the AC130 section would have been brief then swap to play as a soldier on the ground witnessing the destruction you have caused and then switch back to the AC130 to move on to the next area.
Can I just point out how utterly idiotic and unrealistic the first mission is? They used the loudest and biggest possible helicopter to insert a team like 50 feet from the enemy, then flew like directly over them for some reason. And then like 20 MARSOC operators die but nobody cares because they found the plot device. If this happened IRL then whoever planned this debacle would get demoted or sacked and be used as an example to countless future officer cadets of how not to plan an operation.
The idea of terrorists working with narcos is interesting, and frankly it surprises me we don't hear more about this It's entirely possible it happens often and would make sense, but still (edit: I meant that we hear about, i don't doubt it happens but its not often talked about) And that's all I'm going to praise this story for
There was a big scare that Mexican cartels were smuggling in isis affiliated terrorists through the southern border. I was stationed at fort bliss and the time and we changed from an open base to a closed one for like a year. So it did kind of happen

That's exactly what I thought when I played the game - I was very much looking forward to continuing the plot involving Zakhaev, Al-Asad, etc., but I was very disappointed to find that none of this was followed through.

@Big Bean Exactly! Switching between Allen, Roach and Ramirez gave the game different environments and set pieces that allowed them to tell an amazing story, especially Ramirez's. Love Soap/Price but goddamn is Foley, Dunn and Ramirez a couple of badasses lol.

I’m commenting now to say that Synthetic man was correct in the end saying MW3 would not have any guts and it really doesn’t especially in comparison to the OG modern warfare. The problem with the new one is Makarov is pretty much another stereotypical Russian bad guy who looks less menacing and does less menacing acts of terrorism than he did in the old storyline his voice is more high pitched and his dialogue is so bland and basic he talks like typical bad guy leader. But the OG Makarov was very cunning and deceptive he didn’t care about his Ally’s or any of his supporters he just killed for the most money and for higher power and control he hides his intentions buy playing off his acts of violence as patriotism for Russia when really he just wanted to watch the world burn. And what added weight to the original story was both him and shepherd die in the end however they managed to destroy task force 141 leaving just price so they still died with some ounce of victory. The new one barely has any weight only Soap dies and it is handled in the most dumbest and cheesiest way ever and in the end credits scene price kills shepherd but again there’s no weight or consequences to anything in this timeline so doesn’t add much. So yeah new MW3 campaign it’s sucks and also Farrah’s in it as well so yeah take that as you will
What bothers me most is that this new TF141 has more SAS guys than Delta or DEVGRU. Lmao the only American unit Ive seen work with them were regular Marines, not even Raiders/Recon. For a US-run unit, I’d expect more local tier 1 operators being part of the group rather than having most of them coming from a foreign ally.
What really stuck with me was in the mission where you had to sneak around the town after Graves flipped there was a part where two soldiers are killing police and the one soldier says something like: "you have to respect that they don't immediately go for their weapons", I immediately thought this was a clever hint by the writers that you could swipe a weapon off of one of these dead police officers, so I go to the one body and there is in-fact a holstered weapon on his leg, but low-and-behold, there's no way for you to pick it up. Instead the developers clearly wanted you to stick to their stupid crafting game.

“Alone” is the worst mission in the game and none of the stuff that you craft in the mission gets put to use outside of the lock picks. I may have used 1 mine and smoke grenade in total 😂.

Seeing this video in the recommended section along with Gmanlives' "Modern Warfare 2's Campaign is Surprisingly Good" comes across as high comedy of the sort that no one can quite plan for.
This game's campaign is putting the bare minimal while trying to look like you're doing the most. Laswell gets captured and we rescue her the next mission unharmed. Takes the "Oh shit" tension out of it. Shadow Company betrays us in one scene after just being our bros becuase the plot needs to move along. This campaign is two to three full length missions short of being great.
and they all sit back and watch as Laswell kills a terrorist while choking him out with a rifle and NONE OF THE SOLDIERS do a damn thing. Just sit back and watch. Yea, that wouldn't happen, sorry.

As for your issue with Laswell, she's been characterized as a stubborn headed person who wishes to be on the field again and not pushing pencils. I feel like 90% of the people here just *don't* like CoD, and aren't actually interested in the story whatsoever. Even though it's actually pretty good. Over half the comments are just people crying that every game isn't Waw, or the original MW. You guys really need to get over it.
As an outsider who just started reading and enjoying the cod lore, so no nostalgia factors here, I can say for sure that the mw reboot have a much more interesting story than the original. And at the very least a much more believable story than the original holywood cliche modern warfare.
I'd be shocked if the same people who worked on the older games still worked at the company i might need to look into it out of curiosity. this is probably a Rockstar situation where it's like a San Andreas Voice Actor pointed that the people he worked with aren't at the company anymore. If this is how Activision is gonna treat MW2 I don't trust them to remake 3 or WaW and going off Vanguard them touching WaW should be terrifying.
A lot of the main devs left after the original MW2 because the company was growing too big with drama and at this point anyone who stayed is probably gone as well.

I’m gonna be honest, I watched about half the video and lost interest. How can you actively complain about a game that you weren’t paying attention to at all? They literally tell you what you’re supposed to do. They even give you a button to press to show you the objective. If you have no interest in a game, you’re going to be biased and say “it’s a bad game”. That’s a really bad way of reviewing games. Playing it on stream and being negative to entertain viewers is one thing but to clip said stream and post it on RU-vid like an actual game review is just awful. I think you would have actually enjoyed the campaign if you didn’t spend all your time complaining.
I had a different experience with the hide in the grass mission. So long as I didn't move at all, the enemy could literally look right at me, standing right over me, and just walk away. Also the option to throw tear gas through the vents was such a useless option as it was just instant death afterwards. This mission was also the point where the campaign started to take a downward turn for me. By the way, I beat it on veteran, was more frustrating than difficult due to the horrific checkpoints it kept giving me.
It’s amazing that they made me cringe through a good 90% of the campaign. If you are looking for an immersive high octane story, this is not it. The cartel and cia chicks are so forced and cringe. Ghost is ridiculous. The gameplay is boring. The game is almost child friendly. Remember when they did international headlines by making the player shoot up an airport? And wtf is with the gun names? Wtf is a lachmann or minibak?
It was ok , I just wished they started something new with new characters because it was very predictable, I already knew shepard and graves were gonna betray you.

@@ray4493 That's understandable I've seen it happen plenty of times (New Star Wars trilogy comes to mind). But other times it really not that serious for example Deathloop which is a completely new IP so they don't have to race swap or anything like that. Plus the game wasn't too bad imo
seeing bullets not go through shit just reminds me of that mission clearing a house in the first one where you could shoot through walls and doors taking enemies out and even doing that to save another soldiers life if you were quick enough, had a lot of hope for cod games seeing what the first modern warfare remake turned out to be but it seems those hopes were once again misplaced
Really you had a lot of hope even though the main character was a large-nosed feminist female rebel leader who had to take down a general with her bare hands at the end? The story was structured well enough if you didn't pay attention to any of the details, but once you paid any attention at all to the details, the whole thing fell apart.

Bruh you can't make a review without paying attention to the story, boring or not. From what I watched in this video a lot of your points make no sense, you say "what's stopping them from standing on the ledge and shooting directly down and killing me" if they did that, it would be poor game design and you would just die instantly every time, and then you would complain about that too. You're thinking about it too much, it's a game. Plus sucking at a game isn't the games fault, for example: you wouldn't go to a theatre to watch a thriller just to not pay attention to any of the plot and then complain that you didn't get the twist at the end, plus you also wouldn't make a whole ass RU-vid video complaining about it even thought you are not paying attention to the story. I can't be the only one who doesn't agree with this guy.

They could at least let the player branch out in certain areas of the mission. For such an on rails style of campaign, they could at least put in the effort to make the story compelling and the gameplay more immersive. Garbage story, uninteresting characters, invisible walls everywhere, terrible death animations, lazy game design filled with armored enemies to soak up ammunition, etc. COD was never known for their fantastic single player campaign, but it was a lot better in the original MW 1 & 2.

@@troypowers750 if you overanalyse any story it has holes, that doesn't make it bad if it's engaging and has good characters, and I think that's true. For example, Harry Potter is full of logical inconsistencies (why not use time turners more, why do wizards ever have poverty or banks, etc) but the story itself is still incredibly popular. It's all down to personal opinion at the end of the day, and you're well within your rights to dislike it, but I think nobody can say the campaign is objectively trash.

The original MW games made little effort to take themselves seriously. They were over-the-top with action movie pacing & dialogue with iconic set pieces such as the Washington invasion or the Eiffel tower being toppled. The new games try to be "dark, gritty, and realistic," but the writers keep trying to insert some sort of agenda into the story, and many of the plot points don't really make sense.
