I'll show you how to quickly replace 'blank' cells with a missing value code in the Data View tab and then define that missing value code in the Variable View tab.
Thanks so much for this video, it was really helpful. I had a question regarding coding answers that are inapplicable. In my survey, some people wrote their nationality rather than their ethnicity. Under another question, "what year are you in? (University)", I have a variety of answers that do not apply, like the year they were born, the year they expect to graduate, the study program etc. How would I begin to code and define these values? Should I just code all of them with "99" for example, and define them as missing? Would appreciate any help I can get :)
hey this is great! How about setting missing values for string variables? I have a string variable that has some blank cells, finding it quite hard to set missing values for them
When I do this and then just run Analyze=>Descriptive Statistics=>Frequencies, the blank values are still counted in the percentages. How do I omit the blanks from the percent calculation??
thanks for the video it is very useful. i face a problem in SPSS. my data includes negative valu3s as -127.79 when i type it or paste it in SPSS it does not appear the cell remains blank. i need these negative values since most of them are negative. please help !!!
Thanks, very helpful! I also have missing data from a 'decline to answer' option I provided in my survey - would this be checking the 'system or user missing' option and placing the value spss has already allocated to the decline option in the new values box?
