My question is a matter of debate wich I'd appreciate a reply describing your opinion: is kururugi right about contestable means or is zero right about in the way he accomplishes his goal. Kururugi is wrong in my own opinion because while it may be true that there may be people who try to not oppress the Japanese like yufi but others who's ideals are less would either use or eliminate someone like that just as zero did then order kururugi to slaughter those soldiers on the boat even tho they surrendered. That alone should've been the wake up call he needed.

I kind of view the Lelouche/Nunnaly dynamic as being very interesting. Lelouche is, in all ways except motivation, a villain. He's ambitious and arrogant to a fault and willing to commit the harshest of atrocities to achieve his aims. True, WE see his remorse, but to all outside observers, the civilian casualties, the total annihilation of what stability existed in the world, are of no concern to him. He is a man with a goal, willing to go to absolutely any means necessary to accomplish it. The one thing that separates him from being a supervillain is his motivation, to make a better world for Nunnaly. I would argue that without Nunnaly, he would still destroy Britannia, but he wouldn't care about the aftermath. He would topple the greatest superpower in the world, plunge the planet into chaos, and then walk away, his mission accomplished. Nunnaly is the angel to Lelouche's demon, the conscience that tempers and directs his ambition, without even knowing it.
@KatoBeyond
@KatoBeyond 6 лет назад
The interesting thing is, even considering Lelouch's good intentions, you could still call him a villain. Think of how many villains there have been who were trying to save the world in their own way. I also agree with you. Nunnally is very important to Lelouch's motivations, and as you implied, his nobleness. -Zero

Micheal Drake whether or not he would just destroy brittania and walk away is something that has yet to be seen. A nation isn’t tangible. There’s no real way to “destroy” brittania. All lelouch would be able to do is change brittania for the better. Changing brittania’s rotten core to something good for everyone is the only way to destroy brittania’s current existence. As lelouch stated, know your enemy, because it is not the people. The only way for him to ensure that the country would not go back to its rotten ways after lelouch did his part, would be to ensure that someone like schneizel never ended up on the throne, and that someone like euphemia and nunnally did. That’s the only true way to destroy a nation.

I totally disagree. Lulush was also in the effect of geas. Geas was causing him to kill people for his goals. But his goal was always to build a fairer world. To do this he was killing innocent people. When his killings were revealed he lost the trust of everyone including Black Knights. Then he set up a plan with Suzaku where he would deliberately play the role of a villian. His plan was to attract all the hatred of the world on himself. Therefore his killing would mean the fairer world. When he was asked "What makes a good leader?", he answered "Destruction". As a result he destroyed all the source of evil including himself (at least the world was seeing him as the evil) to build a fairer world. He sacrificed his life to build a fairer world! But Britania had to be destroyed to achieve this goal. And this wouldn't be possible by making some compromises within the Imperialist Britannia.

Replying 2 years later lul Regardless, I wholeheartedly agree, but rather than a great King or and Emperor of Britannia, I see Lelouch as the Emperor of Humanity itself. His goals were never for any country, and although he fought from the countries of Japan and Britannia, his existence is something that far surpassed any national boundary. The very fact that he was able to use his strength, his Geass, to connect to the Ragnarok Connection, the collective subconscious of human beings, is the greatest testament to Lelouch's role as the hero of humanity, even as the villain of his world.

@@rsking6120I’m doom scrolling 4 years later but imma reply anyways. When lelouch connects to the connection he also has his arms spread wide like Christ on the cross in front of god. During the moment his 2nd eye awakens he also realizes his true goals and who he truly is inside his heart and as said. Know thyself know thy enemy. He knew his true heart and what he desired and would burn the world to make it happen. A Geass can be described as an an idiosyncratic taboo, whether of obligation or prohibition, similar to being under a vow or curse, yet the observance of which can also bring power and blessings. And Lelouch was the only one who overcame this power for the future of all humanity.

Cornelia and Todoh both knew lelouche and his persona zero personally. Also Xingke likely put it together as seemingly the 3rd smartest strategist (after Lelouche and Sneizel). Oh, one more thing about Zero-I think there was no power vacuum bc Lelouche recognized that people are fickle, so giving them an “immortal” symbol of what took place, was the only way to keep the peace. The rulers may change, but Zero supporting them gave people a constant. Many cultures have done this throughout history, passing the mantle of a great person or leader down through the generations, keeping the focus on the ideals represented by “the mask” instead of the person wearing it.
@Warsie

Besides, there's always people who like to rebel to authorities. idk people like to complain and blame authorities whether there's real corruption or not. If it's real, it's justified of course. I also thought another reason for the world peace to continue after lelouch was zero as a symbol. He had victory after victory, was a knight of justice to the end, had respect for all people groups even britannians, as far as the world is concerned rose from the grave twice (after season 1 he is reported executed and I am positive after the black knight betray they claimed he died but maybe wrong about that but I still think it would make the most sense for them to claim that) and after he rose from the grave he came at the worlds darkest hour and slayed a demon. While we know the truth is less pretty this is what the world sees. There will be a huge cult of personality. Anyone who dares attack zero will not have to fight him but the entire world behind him. Of course one way to beat this is to reveal to the world what the audience knows.

Nice video offering the great man theory and the counterpoint to the theory. The line from Oscar Levant can also be applied to Lelouch. "There's a fine line between genius and insanity" I believe the men that impact history were often seen as either genius or mad. Like Otto Van Bismarck. After conquering everything, he decided not to pursue conquest but rather strengthen the empire. The ministers around him called him mad but it was a brilliant stroke of genius. And there's plenty of examples in history. Nonetheless, a pretty good analogy of Lelouch. And the fact that he made the statement, "The only ones who should kill, are the ones who are prepared to be killed" also solidifies him as a great man. And he did fulfill that statement at the end.

He was a fucking moron and a psychopath, but genius he most certainly was not. Clearly he was stupid enough to get caught, he didn't plan things through at all, and his plans would have failed the moment they realized that he was killing them through the news, because no matter how far from there he could have gotten, all they'd have to do to stop him was stop reporting criminals as news material! Most progress can be attributed to changes in technology and/or social systems. And neither world-changing technology nor social institutions are formed by a single person. Democracy, as well as the light bulb, were invented, implemented, and perfected over a number of decades and centuries, with many people building on each other’s work. The contributions of certain individuals in this journey may have been greater than those of others, but no single person was responsible for any great social, political, or technological change. One issue with Schneizel specifically is I'm not thoroughly convinced Schneizel won't one day break out of his Geass command. Don't forget, he's highly intelligent and the only man treated as and even spoken of as Lelouche's equal. All he would have to do is convince himself that the current Zero is not the real Zero since he knew Lelouche was the original Zero and Lelouche is dead. Then the command "serve Zero" would falter or even fail completely as Schneizel would no longer recognize Susaku as Zero. Sure, it's a lil bit of a stretch, but it's a surefire way to bring back one of the best antagonists of the series.

Schneizel wanted peace, sure, but he wanted it through fear and control (a typically antagonistic viewpoint). Even when Lelouch had made himself into the enemy of the world, and Schneizel was helping the Black Knights, Schneizel still wasn't a "good guy" because he was still trying to get his base into orbit to control the world with. Hell, he attempts to kill Cornelia when she figures out his plan. I'm not saying that's necessarily the direction they'll take his character in R3, was just suggesting a way to get him to break free of the geass command. Whether or not he'll be an antagonist we'll just have to wait and find out.

spoilers ahead their are two easy solutions to the problem of the geass used on schneziel lelouch said he was loyal to zero and in the end we know the zero requiem was meant to make suzaku the new zero and that orange already knew of the plan so with the geass already cast on schneziel why not tell him of the plan and that zero would be suzake then he truly would be loyal to suzaku is the first and more obvious of the two solutions the second and in my opinion more fitting one is that in the same way that lelouch made all of the Japanese who fallowed zero in to zero early on in season two he made schneziel a servant of the people more accurately the people he always looked down on a fitting punishment just like the punishments of suzaku orange cc and lelouch himself
@dannofdawn
@dannofdawn 6 лет назад
He didn't want peace through fear and control, he saw it as the means to the end. And he saw himself as the right candidate to be Ruler of the World. Remember that Schneizel didn't do what he did because he hungered for power, he did it because of how the world was at the time, and he saw himself as one who could save it. So when Zero Requiem succeeded, even a Schneizel with free will wouldn't oppose it, rather he would still support it because that's the type of person he is. Schneizel is what Lelouch would be if he didn't have a sister he loves, and friends he cared about. This is a classic story trope - The difference between the villain and the hero is that the villain was alone, and the hero wasn't. That is, Schneizel became a cold-hearted lonely person due to his peerless intelligence, while being raised in a ruthless, vain, aristocratic society. He saw the state of the world, acknowledges his own capabilities, and enact his plan with pure objectivity in mind in order to better it. But because he was a loner, he failed to see the effect of his actions on others, because he couldn't perceive the feelings and perspectives of others. Which ironically meant he could only see things from his own perspective, and even with his intellect, he couldn't see what he was doing was no better than Charles. So with a mind like that, it made sense he would think WMDs was the way to enforce world peace through unchallenged rulership and control. However, once Zero Requiem succeeded, his goal of fixing the world was also achieved, he no longer has any reason to strive for power. The world is a much better place, one he also wanted, he just didn't know what it should be prior to Zero Requiem. Also, he didn't try to murder Cornelia, he just needed her out of his way - he didn't care about her at all, didn't matter to him if she was dead or alive, so he didn't bother finishing her. Cornelia said so herself to Guilford. But all of that is moot because he wouldn't be able to break free of Geass by himself. No one has ever done it, Nunually only managed to resist it for a few seconds. Orange would have to cancel it for him, which wouldn't happen because he is fully loyal to Marianne's children.

Well lelouch peace will not last why? Season 3 will happen Even without the season 3 eventuality his peace would always end due to his failsafes are too reliant on the people he has chosen to play a role in his requiem For even with those being talented and good willed it does not count any anomalies that might rise cause even though his reputation at the end was the most evil man who ever lived his reign was far too short to really engrave the dangers of the allure of power to other people especially outside his circle There is no doubt that lelouch is a great man but great men does not always leave legacies they intended

Sounds like... Napoleon? Much like Lelouch, Napolean was born into a lower noble class and worked his way up through military leadership. He scrounged together an army and changed the tides of war, spread great ideals about equality that are used for the framewoork of todays society, hated rule by birthright and opted for a voting system yet decided to declare himself emporer.... Lots of uncanny similarities. maybe do a video on the paralells of Napoleon, because I would bet money that the creator based him somewhat on Napoleon.

I love your philosophical interpretations (so far I’ve just seen this one and the one on FMA, two of my fave shows:). I felt like such a dork going on and on about how utterly amazing FMA is, from the authors knowledge of what we call alchemy to her own interpretations of the laws that might govern such forces, so it’s nice to see someone else is delving into “the cores” of what these series seem to be about-I feel so much better now,, LOL. I haven’t finished Code Geass yet (though I know the story), but from what I’ve seen so far I totally agree with your Great Man Theory. Society may give people the skill sets and the tools required for true change, but they still have to decide to use those tools, and no one can do that but those who do. Giving society credit for what only a few accomplish, when so many others choose victimhood over change, is unfair, at best. Crediting society is, in its own way, tyrannical because it leaves those who may aspire to change things unable to harness the ability to do so-it diffuses the sense of responsibility-because if we’re all the same, then “someone else will take care of it”, and then no one does. I think this is why people like Spencer were so opposed to the Great Man Theory, because it keeps the status quo, but that’s just my two cents. Great videos, thank you! Keep it up!

Only point, the skill and intelligence he required may have been, or partially were, results of his environment. Prior to donning the mask of Zero, he had a lot of external factors pushing him towards success. Not towards Zero, or towards his personal goals, but towards the "skills and intelligence" required to achieve those goals. His education, his wealth, his familial connections, even just his location (He could've been raised in a more derelict location).

Counterpoint to criticism: Some of the great men are/were isolated or pariahs. Superman is clark kent in normal life, but as a full being he is isolated. i dont completely agree with the great man theory, yes lelouch became the figurehead but there were people rebelling against britannia beforehand anyway, lelouch was very lucky to have been raised in an enviorment that allowed him to see everything (brittania and its arristocracy as well as those who get trampled under it) . as well lucky enough to obtain the power of geass, i feel like the most comparable character to lelouch from history is napoleon, he rose to power amid the french revulotion , a movement bigger than himself and he was talented enough to lead it to a historical rise. i still view leluch as a hero though but i feel like saying history is made by great men is an extreme oversimplification.

It's strongly hinted in the Code Geass universe that when a Geass user dies OR ascends to the immortal status the people affected by their geass are restored. C.C.'s love geass lead to her followers crucifying her when she became immortal, Nunally got her sight back because Charles became an immortal and also died, but took a while since she never thought she had her eyes for the longest time. So if this holds true, Schneizel would no longer serve zero after Lelouch either dying or ascending to Immortal status.

actually I dont think it was ever confirmed that a geas user dying will restore someone. Well,then it kinda isn't a big deal right? Here's my conjecture though Geass is the power of the King right?So for you to not obey orders you need to be someone worthy of being a King and also you need the have the will.You might say okay but what about Schneizel?? Well,he never got his hands dirty himself ,he also wasn't as strong willed as her. Another thing is that we have been shown that the geass gives a command to the enemies brain directly. You might say but everyone is the same right?sure someone he was killing had the will to oppose him. Well ,those guy's where always taking orders from someone so they can't oppose a King being mere underlings of another King. Those guys that will sacrifice everything for a dream or ideal are the kind of guys that can oppose the power of the king.I imagine it as being like an addiction ,your entire being is telling you to execute the command so by disobeying the order your are essentially going against yourself.There are few people that can overcome an addiction after all...
@Sigstrata

Orange was Geassed right at the moment zero emerged, and it is the consequences of him being Geassed that spurred his hatred for Zero. As for the suicide theory, while someone may have an extremely strong will to live at the moment, I believe the term "within their nature" means that if someone is at the lowest point in their life, everyone is capable of suicide. Since Nunally was geassed to hand over the Damacles' key, which to Nunally would be giving up on her dream of a gentler world ("how could the world be gentle when Zero has the FLEIJA's and command of all the armed forces?") she was able to resist it momentarily.

Had he been a "greater man" in the sense of finding a way to overcome Edison perhaps the entire rest of human history could have changed for the better.) If you combine it with other ideas it enhances both I feel

On the whole, I think the Great Man Theory is something that applies most accurately to societies where power is strongly concentrated. One reason it may look less compelling to people who live in societies with more fractured power structures. Ina world like Code Geass after Lelouch is the literal emperor of the world (and before that only three great powers, only one of which seems to have a more spread out power structure) it makes sense that this theory carries more weight. The contrast I would point to in our world is that even when large changes occur at the Federal level of the U.S. government, the day-to-day lives of its citizens aren't strongly impacted until much later, and possibly not in the way that the leaders intend it to happen. The speed of power is also something I think is really important to this discussion, but I don't have enough time to write about it now, but basically if something can be said and made true quickly, then the Great Man Theory is more plausible than in a society of slow moving power.
@paigeelliott9674
@paigeelliott9674 3 года назад
The show definitely does interrogate the great man theory in another way, too! Especially in the first season but throughout the series, lelouch is most often and consistently hindered-sometimes even outright defeated, debatably-because he underestimates the capacity and unpredictability of individuals! Like, suzaku’s not that smart, but he manages to be lelouch’s greatest obstacle for much of the series just because he’s one guy who’s really good at fighting and often happens to be in the right place at the right time to intervene! A LOT of major turning points in the series, lelouch’s biggest successes and failures, depend on random chance (cough cough euphemia whoops!) or the actions of individual grunts, like that guy who gets freaked out and records a video when they raid the lab. Schneizel is the closest thing here to an L to lelouch’s light, and he isn’t even involved in most of the major events of the series. I would argue that the show takes a measured view of the great man theory and pushes back against it, in that while none of the major events could have happened without lelouch, he certainly didn’t solely cause or guarantee their outcomes, either. There are so many variables at play in these complicated situations that even a great man can be defeated easily by the wrong bullet at the right time.

Haha, sorry. I'm the one who posted a comment about your current thoughts on the Great Man theory, but I did so midway through the video, and deleted the comment after watching the whole thing. Curious that you were able to comment on it after that, but unfortunately I can only see a preview of the response in my notifications... Anyway, I am ripe for my umpteenth rewatch and was pondering a bunch of stuff, when I think I realized something. Isn't how Diethard's character is treated a sort of critique of attachment to grand narratives? All he seeks seems to be the spectacle and grandiose bullshit associated with, among other things, Great Men, and their Great Deeds. And one of the throughlines in Lelouch's character is how respects the agency and will of the masses above most things - I see this as a primary reason he at the end is so dismissive of Diethard; most other deaths he causes he seems to be remorseful about in private. But he is overtly contemptuous of this media creature as he lays dying in front of him. Just a fledgling thought, though - what do you think?
@KatoBeyond
@KatoBeyond 2 года назад
Lelouch has always questioned Diethard's legitimacy as a journalist, ever since their first meeting. He accused Diethard of not reporting stories as they are, but instead fabricating them. In the end, Diethard abandons any cause and simply sides with whom he perceives as the "greater man". History is written by the victor, after all. To sum, if Diethard does represent the Great Man Theory view of history, the idea is treated with a good deal of contempt

@@KatoBeyond Exactly, and I wonder if he had been more pragmatically oriented in his fundamental motivations, as in, if he was simply siding with whoever he perceived to be more likely to be the victor in order to be able to see some higher goal fulfilled, maybe Lelouch would have treated him differently. Lelouch did rise up, but one of the major difference was that he would not have if the world (C.C.) didnt give him the power to do so. Though just cause he was given the strength and motivation to rise above does not mean that he was not a great man, he was just written to be so. In Harry Potter, when compared to Harry we see feats of Dumbledore, Marauders and other great wizards as extraordinary as we didnt walk in their shoes. Even Harry himself didnt consider himself all that great because he clearly saw that he was there only because he got help from extraordinary people, he could never see why Dumbledore found him as extraordinary. That we related to Harry so much that we often found ourselves agreeing with him gives me a sense of satisfaction. No matter how inadequate we find ourselves to be, we are all potentially great men. Neville Longbottom was just as great and he proved it when the time came, he could as easily have been the chosen one if the adversity or world chose him. Similarly Lelouch didnt get where he was just cause of himself, it was because of his allies and enemies. Maybe the world did just chose the answer he led it to in the end, but they chose him as a vessel for the judgement qualifies him as a great man.

Not true, Lelouch mentioned in Episode 5 that CC giving him Geass only "sped up" his plans. Basically he would have destroyed Brittania anyways it just would have taken alot longer. The 1-2 years it took for Lelouch to fully enact his plan wouldve taken about 10 without Geass.

There's some truth to what both of you are saying. Lelouch was talking about his plan to obliterate Britannia when he said that, but he may have undergone the same path either way. C.C was of great help, but Lelouch could have done without it. give that kind of power to any other character like Kallen or Suzaku, and Brittania would have still been up and running. Lelouch didn't NEED Geass. Actually when you think about it, Geass simply gave him the motivation to enact his plans. And Geass made things worse for him and turned him into the tragic hero. Geass led him to finding out what happened to his mother, thus releasing him from that obsession which held him back for so long. But honestly, w/o it he just would have been more creative. And things probably wouldn't have ended up as tragic for him in the end. The Most brilliant things Lelouch did he did without his geass.
@nikgokuhil
@nikgokuhil 6 лет назад
I agree that its not just the power, but what you choose to do with it that makes you great, however that statement of Lelouch is akin to boasting of a frog in a well. He was outmatched and defeated various times by people who didnt have Geass and he needed a miraculous power to save him then. You can argue that if it werent for Geass he would've got some other power, but in the end the point holds true that things would be out of his control and he shall need something from the world. While I do think that he would be defeated in a straight up battle by people like Charles, Schneizel, Li Xingke or even other Geass users, but even if we argue on that, the whole world was sitting on a giant time bomb called Charles Vi Brittania. Lelouch's timeline didnt make room for Charles plan with world of C, without geass and its knowledge, it was a checkmate

The biggest problem I have with applying the Great Man theory to the real world is that it obscures all the sociological factors that influence events, instead focusing on a handful of men who happen to have been in charge at the right time. Saying that Julius Caesar transformed the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire isn't _incorrect,_ strictly speaking, but it obscures the importance of the factors which let him take power in and reshape Rome. Focusing on the sociological factors at the expense of the "great men" is a sacrifice I'm willing to make, for two reasons. One, _Caesar was not unique._ Others sought power in Rome in much the same way as he did, both during his life and in prior generations; it was only a matter of time before someone tried to claim ultimate power as he did. Two, _Caesar is not alive today, but society is._ Attributing events to the skills and personalities of individuals makes it difficult to learn anything from history except dates and wars, but sociological factors can come up again and again. (And this should go without saying, but you can replace Caesar with any other "great man" from history and my argument would still hold, assuming you also replaced the stuff about Rome with the appropriate place and events.)

Just to point out, the post zero requieum plan was not just Schneizel, Zero and Nunnaly. The Black Knights were still there, as well as th UFN. Presumbly after Lenouch was killed, the UFN representatives would be set free - so their rinstitutionl history would be preserved. And given the world of Code Geass seems to have a much weaker sense of a nation-state or westphalian sovereignty, it would be less a great man theory in that case and more a case of institutional maturity. though the great man theory does work in lelouch's older plans. Also you know Charles Zi Brittania was planning something similar with breaking the sword of akasha, but that's not per se geopolitics or international relations.

Great Man theory is pretty childish and silly. Lelouch's privilege as not only a noble but as a prince to the greatest empire to ever live is arguably the main reason he was able to rise up in the fashion that he did. If it weren't for his connections both inside and out royalty, Lelouch would've never have gotten as far as he did in this rebellion and eventual take over of Britania. You site Lelouch's intelligence, but would Lelouch have that ability if it weren't for his 10 years spent receiving what was probably the best education money can buy? Not to mention all the other bonuses to growing up among the high and mighty, like never suffering from malnurishment for a second and always getting anything he ever wanted or needed for creative development or otherwise.

The show is theatrical for sure. In reality Lelouch would fail based on FMA:brotherhood's truth. He uses Geass in the same way father does and much like father imposes his will on the world. As we see today with "malformation"(degradation of information whether it be correct or incorrect) society's response becomes unpredictable. I hypothesize that after Lelouch betrayed his people Truth(the world of forms) would step in, in one way or another and counter balance his actions regardless of outcome. However I said that being some years removed from watching Code Geass and obviously not being able to speak on Truth's behalf with certainty

It's worthwhile noting that he actually DIDN'T start off Zero Requiem planning for Nunnally to take his place. Since he thought she was dead until he put things in motion for it, for him to be the most hated man alive on Earth. So who did he pick before? I would argue he originally planned for KAGUYA to be so. He did trust her to act as Chairwoman of the UFN Supreme Council (ie effectively already ruling half the world) and she showed the maturity and capability to be a good leader (in fact he makes a question in that regard that likely confirmed he can trust Kaguya as his successor just before he "reveals" himself to be a Demon) despite her young age. But when Nunnally turned up alive and proved herself to him, Lelouch made adjustments to his plan with that in mind. Likely is easier in a way to put his own blood sibling in charge of the world than someone with no blood ties considering how succession works.

I just would like to mention, that it was not Bismarck's death that cause the collapse of his system of foreign policy. He was already asked to resign by the new Emperor of Germany Wilhelm II. in 1890, because Wilhelm did not want someone who already worked for his grandfather as an adviser. Wilhelm was also very keen on increasing Germany's prestige and colonial territory, which led to nearly all of Germany's former allies hating it.

Interesting thought at 2:07. It says imperialism can be by extending power through diplomacy. Is diplomatic imperialism as bad as military imperialism? If you negotiate for things and both sides agree, then not all imperialism can be bad.

My only issue is that despite all the planning wnd the absolute victory of Lelouch putting his kindly sister on the throne (which is debatable as to whether that was the best way to keep the world at peace) with schneizel and suzaku to defend her...what happens after her death? This is never answered and you even bring it up yourself when you mention the way Bismarck United Germany and effectively kept Europe at peace...almost exactly until he died. This is really the fundamental problem I’ve always had with the great man theory and monarchy in general is even if a great king rises to power and ushers prosperity how do you handle mortality and the inevitable changing of the guard to prevent the cycle from starting all over?

well if there are no active great men who are going for change against lelouchs empire and no supporter for great men has a great man to back

one such supporter is C.C because she gave him the power and triggered his motions

Lelouch's manufactured peace is too unrealistic. Human nature gravitates towards greed. In fact, we live in a world that has had to come together during World War II to kill a genocidal dictator (i.e. Hitler), yet despite this worldly rally to fight what everyone would agree is evil, there exists more of the same kind of talk that will propel the world into yet another world war. War isn't part of human nature, but it is a part of this social system.

My biggest problem with lelouch planning for nanalie to take the throne was that she was very easily tricked. I mean schneizel tricked her into shooting nukes at her own brother and put world Peace at risk simply because she was so naive, gullible, and easily swayed. Such a person could never lead a world government competently.

great analysis video, i agree with the greatman theory!! i just finished code geass after witnessing the shocking ending of code geass i immediatly remembered itachi uchiha, i like morally graey charecters who are the representative of complexity of human nature instead of black and white morality, i believe that everyone"s grey but its all boils down to logic of which nature outweights which black or white, good or evil and logically explains means justifies the end. reason in harmony with emotion thats the highest reality of life!! so, actions of lelouch and itachi can be explained by greek philosophy of consequentialism, in which the morality of an action is to be solely and only be judged on the consequences as results, hope i helped someone out there intrested in grey charecters lol

I could see in the code geass world 150 years later like: yeah the whole world government was built on the death of this one guy, he was a unparalleled example of the great man theory

Alexander the great could be considered a great man with his history of blood and it's non fiction. So he could be considered a great man. This makes me wonder how Lelouch compares to Caius Ballad and Thanos - besides the fact that they all have purple.
