It never ceases to amaze me how EVERY TIME Suzaku is like "I can change the government from the inside!" he is immediately turned on by the nearest Britannian and treated like a dog. I won't deny he's making GRADUAL changes but by and large these people would kill him with a rusty spoon in front of his own grandmother for free.
@martinaguiluz4063
@martinaguiluz4063 Год назад
He technically can't be killed because he is protected by Loid. Since Loid's an Earl and the lead scientist of the kingdom, he certainly has some privileges. Also, he is a very viable asset in terms of military might, so killing him or replacing him as the Lancelot's pilot would severely damage the kingdom's military, since he's pretty much the only one who can keep up with Kallen.
@icebox1954
@icebox1954 Год назад
@@martinaguiluz4063 1. They actively tried to kill him as they were allowed to by Euphemia. 2. You might not have noticed but Britannians hate the concept of an 11 being put over them so they'd gladly let him die even if the person replacing him would be a few % point less efficient as long as he'd be a Britannian. 3. Suzaku is a joke at this point of the series compared to the best knights who are all Britannians. Area 11 is just a small part of their empire and as such their forces are few. No one can stand against the knights of the round later on.
@martinaguiluz4063
@martinaguiluz4063 Год назад
@@icebox1954 Well, let me tell you that you're correct in some aspects. Yes, it's true that the majority of Britannians hate the idea of an Eleven being part of the military, he has gained respect by Dalton (see in his knighthood ceremony) and Guilford. He also has been the subject of admiration by many elevens. That and being the only pilot with the best compatibility with the Lancelot is the reason of why he's still there. Also, I doubt that the Knights of the Round would have those super special Knightmare Frames during the events of R1, considering that the Lancelot's flight unit and The Avalon were (at the moment) the only mechs with the float unit system. Hell, the Gawain is the first Knightmare with a built-in flight system AND the Hadron Cannons, so I highly doubt that the Mordred and the Tristan were a thing at that time. I think that the Knights of the Round still had Sutherland models by the time of R1, since the 7th Generation of Knightmares started with the Lancelot (which is a prototype) and the Gawain, but since they were never mentioned by the time of R1 we'll never truly know.
@icebox1954
@icebox1954 Год назад
@@martinaguiluz4063 The Tristan probably was a thing here as it's specifically designed to transform into a jet for flight application but most didn't have flying. I think it's still possible some other existed by this time as they are all specially tailored prototypes unlike Lancelot which seems to be a more standardised type. Modred was designed with attacking in mind, Gwaine with defense in mind, Tristan wit air superiority etc. I think it's likely that Lloyd was their best scientist but certainly not the only one to progress on knightmare technology.

I get where people come from when they say "Why would he say that?" and/or see this plot point as kind of forced or cheap; I used to think the same. But when you really think about it, it's a pretty good character development point for LeLouch. He just got done facing off with a Geass user that had lost control of his power. Why did Lelouch not seriously account for the possibility the same thing could happen to him and his own power? He is a highly analytical character, I sincerely doubt the idea never crossed his mind. So what happened then when the thought came up? He dismissed it and assumed that losing control of a Geass power could not also happen to him. This moment with Euphy was the climax of Lelouch becoming more and more arrogant; with this scene he has been stepped down a few dozen pegs, and from here on approaches his goals with more humility and caution. More can be said but im done writing essays in youtube comments for right now lol

The Autonomous Zone wouldn't have worked anyways since it's the inherently racist government that would be handling the project. This is exactly how it is with progressive politics throughout history, as soon as the state coopts the goal of the working class, it is quickly crushed and deformed. To give a good example, the civil rights movement in the US would fit well. People like King worked with the government to change the material conditions of the black and brown people of his country but it turned out, this gave the government permission to simply deform the aims of the emancipation movement. This is very well expressed in the opposition working class black movements that appeared afterwards, which realized the US State was not taking it's promises seriously and work still needed to be done, it happens those same groups were targeted by the FBI, CIA and the police because they were raising a damaging narrative for the ruling class. You can see it right now, where the work of Mr. King has led the African American peoples to, you can see it in the BLM Movement, which still fights for the rights of the black population who still suffer the effects of Jim Crow. If Zero collaborated with the capitalists and racists, the Black Knights simply would have had a situation where now the Elevens would be called Japanese but nothing else, no emancipation or justice. Too bad the writers are too idiotic to actually make the whole series interesting and nuanced. This is what you get when you write revolution but don't know the definition, you simply make things up and hope for the best, maybe put something marketable there, like, anime tits, because that's what we want!

YEEAHH DISASTER
@brandonmorel2658
@brandonmorel2658 11 месяцев назад
This is the stupidest thing ever. The writers thought that because this was foreshadowed back in the day, it somehow excuses a narrative backhand. This show only good at flip flopping tonally. Hopefully it fixes this somehow.
@coupdegrace2767
@coupdegrace2767 9 месяцев назад
how though? Foreshadowing elements aside, it was clearly established that Geass can get out of control - that was one of the more important roles of Mao's character in the story. That's how Chekhov's gun works, you know? As for the "fate" aspects and implications, Lelouch's contract with CC clearly stated that "the power of the King will condemn you to the life of solitude". The only thing you could really argue is Lelouch's wording, but he is an arrogant prick and it's not like he never used such dark humor before. It definitely isn't ooc for him.
@brandonmorel2658
@brandonmorel2658 9 месяцев назад
@@coupdegrace2767 Proclaiming "chekovs gun" doesn't magically make it so a narrative beat is effective, writing a show is way more that utilizing such narrative tools, it's also about feeling and handling expectations, two things which were not realized well in the episode. 1) because an event like this is out place in a story that's thus so far been relishing on mech battles, showing anime woman naked against their will, and power fantasy material. 2) The expectation for such an event wasn't even there in the first place, because it was only some episodes ago Mao and his predicament were introduced, and also because Lellouch and his power never behaved like this in the entire show. As you see, Code Geass failed on two levels in this episode, in "feeling" (vulgar term) and also in handling expectation.
@RMzero6
@RMzero6 9 месяцев назад
I did expect a chaotic climax as it is nearing the end of season 1. But this episode exceeded my expectations in a very good way! This episode is a necessary point of no return for Lelouch' character. This also established another layer of personal anger from Suzaku towards Zero. And of course, intensified the conflict between Britanians and Japanese..
@brandonmorel2658
@brandonmorel2658 9 месяцев назад
@@RMzero6 like you said, this was needed to escalate the stakes in the bourgeois revolution Lellouch leads. Though, I would argue it was written badly. Having him do such an out of character action was a cheap and ineffective way to achieve this moment. I would have forgiven the scene if his mastery over the Geass was doubted for many episodes. It could have happened that he misuses his powers in past mech battles and in this time, it backfires royally. I should have known that an adolescent tv show from the 2000s would employ this kind of contrivance, maybe my expectations were too high and the series is just some shonen schlock which happens to have a really interesting background story. It's a shame all of this is wasted on some mech warfare teen high school drama which doesn't want to meaningfully tell a story.

This show already showed the consequences of using Geass too much. Mao was introduced to show two things: that there are other Geass users out there and that you gradually lose control of your own power over time. Lelouch losing control of his geass isn't an asspull since this was foreshadowed way back. You can hate the fact that Lelouch brought up a very literal example to explain his power, but that's just how he acts. There are some bad episodes in Code Geass but this isn't one of them.
@brandonmorel2658
@brandonmorel2658 11 месяцев назад
@@Miguel-yn6nw This is so childish and weak narratively. They make Zero do everything right and then, like a backhand, they think that because it would make things interesting the first slip he has is unintentional. This is not good character development. If I were the writers I would have made it so Zero actually commands the order with full stride and then make him face unforeseen consequences. This show is very average at best, the writers behave like little kids with the way politics and war are portrayed, not to the mention the chauvinistic way female characters are handled.
