I'd just say take seven shots: two for your comment, one for the author, one for the special thanks, and three for the cameo. Makes it a lot easier, for now at least . . .
I mean. Considering how modern-day celebrities name their crotch goblins. That fine imperial lady is being sensible in comparison. ... Jesus, this really is the darkest timeline.
I love dropping in Primarch names for my NPCs in Dark Heresy. Because I've advanced the timeline to the Era Indomitus, theres always a high chance anyone they meet may be called 'Guilliman'.
Actually in the Horus Heresy books it out right mentions that it’s not uncommon to be named after one of the emperors sons like Horus”little Horus” aximan
Last names used to work a bit different in some parts of the world and/or at some points in history. For instance, where I come from people would have two last names. One would indicate who their father (or in the lack thereof, mother) was whereas the other would tell where they live. So for instance, Berit Forsberg Israelsdotter could be the mother of Erik Hedmark Johansson. But then people stopped doing this, and in some cases quite abruptly such that some children would have different last names compared to their siblings. So you could have Gunhild daughter of Sven, but her sister, Brenda, could be the son of Sven.
2:52 Its not the skull that catches fire here, its her Boot. So let us all take a moment to appreciate that this Sister of Battle, decided not only was she going to go into battle wearing Power Armor that has Come-Fuck-Me Heels on the boots, but those Come-Fuck-Me Boots, have flame-jets in them, just to add additional symbolism and pain, when she kicks a Heretic in the junk with her Power-CFMs
"Who can relate to a man who practises crude acts of blood sacrifice?" The Ecclesiarchy asks, hoping desperately you don't notice the 10,000 psykers being killed every day
Just remember the Space Marine Guideline 1: "Thou shalt not refer to the Adepta Sororitas as "Bolter Bitches," nor shalt thou go anywhere near our sisters during the time of their "Red Rage," lest thou wish to be the first human to enter orbit without the aid of a shuttle."
And some cakes use Rosewater... You could make a Ecclesiarchy cake with Rosewater and dub that ingredient "Tears of the Emperor" and... I don't know where I was going with that, I just rambled on...
IIRC many of the pure Eccisiarchy characters went to Grey Knights for a while, and then went to the Inquisition. Uriah has rules somewhere in that mess for 8th, I don't recall which he is right now. I wanna say the White Dwarf for Inquisition?
10:34 The reason for that has been explained in Codex: Witch Hunters: The black vestments were worn in mourning for the death of the order's patron Saint Katherine. After the Third War for Armageddon, they were changed to red to commemorate the order's losses during that conflict. Quite a neat way to account for the changed colour scheme, in my opinion.
Although I'm a Chaos player, I've always had a soft spot for the sisters, mainly because GW has been giving them the shaft for years. Hell, even toxically-masculine teenage me felt bad for the sisters, mainly because they never got anything and GW seemed to be pretending they didn't even exist. Probably won't be playing them, but definitely picking up their codex when it finally drops.
Basically my position. Always had a soft spot for the nuns with guns, as their lore and stuff is interesting (even if I can't keep a certain Lord of the Rings movie clip from popping into my head during some of it) and if or when I ever get a proper Imperial army, it'll probably be Sisters + Scions. I'd add them to my current Imperial Guard plans, but I've already decided to kitbash decorate the guardstuff chaos.
@@SirAroace True, which is still a shame. The Dogs of War offers you the possibility to hire mercenaries from all races, which could have used the Total War: Attila mechanic where the roman factions can hire troops from passing by hordes. As for Kislev; its suspected that they will be in TWW3
I’m surprised they couldn’t find pictures of the frateris militia, there are pictures of them on Google images. They’re nothing special, just 4 sculpts of dudes holding pistols and sometimes knives.
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer Almost 20 years I don’t play, but I remember these militia units as being some of the best units ever, they were not "cannonfodder idiots", that was the idea, but they had individual weapon choices, something almost no other unit had, and all of them could have two close combat weapons, or two handed weapons, or be mounted… and they could be frenzied… they were designed with such laziness they could be pimped up to be some of the strongest units in the game: 4 points per model, 7 points if mounted, they could be accompanied by a preacher AND a hero like a missionary (23, 44 or 80pts) or confessor (54pts). A 20 man unit (80pts) with a preacher (10pts ) & 20 flails / 2 handed weapons (20pts), if charging, would have 21 attacks strength 5: for 10 points they could have a Frateris standard that gives them a +1 on their dice rolls on their first round of close combat to wound space marines with 2+ (S5 +1 vs T4). And we are speaking of just 120 points here. Add a confessor for +54 pts and they become frenzied, and by being frenzied gain one extra attack per model per turn FOR A TOTAL 42 ATTACKS PER TURN. Or change the flails for a laspistol and pay an extra laspistol (+20pts) for each to have 2 close combat weapons and a total of 63 attacks on every close combat round… And even if the enemy wins in hand to hand, it will take them at least it 2 turns to kill every one of the militia, and you are just investing 150 points to pin any of his units, even elite units. And for the shooting, the amount of hand flamers (four) + 2 one time use heavy flamers for the preacher and leader made their aim irrelevant, since you just had to place enemies under the cardboard template, and those enemies hit but not killed could catch fire and start to run randomly (unless in terminator armor) and receive damage each turn until the fire was extinguished… I used My Necromunda bands for them, 20 delaque, 20 orloks and 20 ratskins; never had the cavalry version but I bet they would have been amazing. On small battles (500pts - 750pts) and especially against armies without vehicles, this army was unbeatable: point by point they were the most powerful unit on the game…
If I ever get into 40K game and not just lore and stufff, I'm making a squad of militarum with a single sister of battle thrown in that is straight up Samus from Metroid. I don't care if im allowed to do that, I will. You can't stop me.
You could always use said sister as an Inquisitor. It's never been said they don't recruit, and Inquisitors can be allied into Millitarum. Or take a Cannoness and a squad of Battle sisters, then you have up to 21 Samus.
I have had a question that no one has answered; if a character, say a Preacher, is given a jump pack, and attached is a Séraphim squad, would that character be known as a “Deputy Séraph?”
It was the fluff in the 2nd Edition 'Battle for Armageddon- Scenarios' booklet that first got me interested in the 40K universe - but even though this was one of the last 2nd-Ed codices I acquired, the tale of Goge Vandire and the Age of Apostasy struck me as being especially good, unmatched until the first Codex: Necrons. Thank you for revisiting this particular blast from the past!
If I remember correctly, the Fraterus Militia was included in the army list so we could include figures like Mordheim war bands and Fantasy Battle models in our armies.
I get it. You leave small unreadable messages on your videos because you hate people with small screens and/or bad eyesight. But won't somebody think of the children?
Remember when Matt Ward in his Grey Knights codex had a story when the grey knights killed the Sisters in order to coat their armor in their blood to fight demons... shit was dumb
Rainbow warriors! Back when all colour based chapters (including the Ultramarines) were successor Chapters to the Rainbow Warriors. That has since been reversed... Apparently they were a reference to Greenpeace's ship "The Rainbow Warrior". I do wonder if the Sister's Fluer-De-Lis is a reference to this, as it is historically associated with the French, French agents sank the Rainbow Warrior, and even the original Sister Sin has a fluer-de-lis symbol on her. The sinking would have happened the year before Rogue Trader was released, so it would have been a pretty current reference at the time of its release.
Nice! I got mine last year to celebrate getting my driving license. Let us hope the new models and codex bring with them some better times for the Sisters. Cheers.
one of those Codex that needed the expatiation stuff that came out in WD and was collected in to Chapter Approved, everyone was expecting a revised and expanded codex, and I think promised one to. Legend has it that one was ready to roll out when the development of 3E reached a tipping point and all that stuff like 2E Tau, and a bunch of revised Codices and new armies that diapered in to mists of time, was just filed away for possible edition updates down the track.
I think the biggest problem with the Sisters is that they're power armored fanatical soldiers who use bolters. They just seem kind of redundant with Space Marines, even if they have faith mechanics. Instead of being their own thing, they just come across as female space marines. At least, that's what I thought when I first saw them. I do like how they've developed more into their own thing, but I do think the fact that they're power armored bolter weilders hurt their appeal.
Oh, nice! You ever check out the version after this one ("Codex: Witch Hunters")? It's got loads of fun weird stuff in it, like a second mini-army list for 'heretics' just in case the main one wasn't enough...
Yeah! I have a copy of that one, and also the Inquisition/ Grey Knights one called “Codex: Daemon Hunters”. I found the Witch Hunter one on Amazon (used books, obviously) about 3-4 years ago and got it for two dollars- I couldn’t believe how cheap it was for such an awesome book!
@@tunguskalumberjack9987 Never got that one myself, but yeah, sometimes those "old but not yet venerable" 4th ed books go pretty cheap for how neat they are
@@tunguskalumberjack9987 I looked it up and it turn out you were right, it is 3rd. I used those while 4th was out when I was first getting into the game, I had no idea they were similar enough you could use the codexes between editions like that...
Been very excited for this one. Fantastic video! Btw, they did bring back that Redemptor Kyrinov model on the GW webstore... but only for a week and about double the price. Shame, because it’s a fantastic sculpt and very hard to find. Oh geedubs, why must you toy with us...
I don't normally comment on non political related issues. But i enjoy your video presentation style and wanted to leave a positive comment to engage with the algorithm and bump your channel.
I had started playing the game a few years before this codex came out. I remember we had this, and then a new edition almost immediately. In retrospect, the "here's something you can spend money and time on that we'll immediately make out of date" move was a harbinger of the way they'd keep being treated, sadly.
the whole part about bloody-tears, from statues of the emperor, might be inspired by the myth, that sometimes, statues of the virginmary, are weeping tears (no idea, if they sometimes also weep blood)
I got into 40k because of the sisters, I just picked up the deamonifuge at a library book sale and fell in love with them, I do love my Night Lords but the sisters will always have a special place in my heart and my collection.
It's very silly to me that despite High Gothic and Low Gothic canonically not being English, the Sororitas still exists as a result of an English based misunderstanding.
i like to think its a deliberate technicality, as the sisters existed before the apostasy and were the driving force to start it. also the idea of a bunch of recently converted primitive human tribes throwing arrows and rocks at a chaos space marine dreadnought is hilarious.
To be fair, the Tau are a completely new race of Xenos. Where as the Sisters are just a sect of the Imperium of man: of which many obscure military branches STILL don’t have model ranges or atleast have fewer than the Sisters themselves. And yes, I would count the Soritas as a very obscure branch (Nuns with Guns??)
Awesome! Neat that you managed to get Gav himself to appear in the vid, very nice of him. I do think they did actually make models for the Frateris Militia though, can't remember where i saw them exactly but they had pictures for their range i'm sure. Did you check the Stuff of Legends site?
And in that time there was an apostle, who, by his works, would unite the faithful across the vast realms of man. His name was Fatidicus, known to his friends as 'Biggus'. And there was nothing amusing about his name whatsoever.
A new Codex Compliant makes me happy, but the description doesn't seem to have the name of the C64 game the outro music came from, and it's great! What is it from? I do like that John Blanche painting, it is pretty much peak Warhammer 40,000 in my eyes.
"Sisters of Battle were kind of the entirety of the female representation in the 40k model line, the fact they were so under-served ..." What about the Tyranids?
I’m surprised. After all these years, several editions and countless revisions and edits to the lore, GW has still been just as shit at sculpting female faces
If you've ever seen the sculpts of the Sisters of Battle chained up on Asdrubael Vect's Ravager you will agree that, no, they have got *significantly* better a sculpting faces… ._.
@@youdontneedtoseehisidentif4939 Exactly this. At least looking at Pious Vorne from BSF and her face you can tell that's a chick, even if a very crazy one to wear that spikecrown thing.
we are only now getting new models because gw saw in 2016 that 3rd party sisters of battle were selling really well and gw decided hay so let's try and not loose out to third parties (rather then their claim that they "listened to the fans"
So are we getting a short vid on the comparison of the two now that the special edition Codex is out or are you waiting for the other one to come out in December? :3
