Beatrice Martin, aka Coeur de Pirate, performs 2 new songs "Place de la Republique" and "Adieu" live in Toronto venue, The Great Hall. video by Adrian Vieni woodandwiresproductions.com
That flygel was made by those that came before us, to be played for us, by those who can. And you are one of those who can. We love how you play it for us, don't you ever forget that. And thank you, you're brilliant.
Béatrice Martin is here being filmed in Toronto, and she famously slipped ‘Quand tu seras à Pearson’ (Pearson International Airport Toronto) into ‘Place de la République’ twice. This has endeared her to Ontarians. Originally the line was ‘Quand tu seras à Vincennes’ in live performances in France before 2011. On the album the words are ‘Quand tu seras à la Porte des Ternes’ (in Paris). Recently in France (since 2013) she has sung the line as 'Et quand tu sors dans le dix-septième' (the 17th Arrondissement of Paris). CdP enjoys keeping us guessing - well, she is entitled to, when singing one of the world’s greatest songs of the 21st century.
"Place de la Republique" We knew the time to please To the demands that we created for ourselves But we get lost You are only a few kilometers away And our hearts, our hearts stayed in this sea I ran along the Seine Hoping to find you, serene soul I ran without knowing how Or why we get carried away, we only knew for a moment And I don't know if you're worth it anymore It's rather hard to be sure And when you're at Pearson Tonight don't forget me I'll wait for you at least long enough to say That I wanted to take the greatest risk One evening that made me very sad One evening, Place de la République And as you see, this is the end I have to cross the ocean tomorrow morning From your arms, I will tear myself away very slowly And it's the reality that awaits me I know your heart is inhabited By one or other girls who marked you Me, I'm less strong than the others But I hope to miss you so much, to stand out so much And I don't know if you're worth it anymore It's rather hard to be sure And when you're at Pearson Tonight don't forget me I'll wait for you at least long enough to say That I wanted to take the greatest risk One evening that made me very sad One evening, Place de la République "Adieu" You laugh so badly, you laugh at living Wine stains on your shirt Who has two exploded pimples On your body that pushed me away You make love in two spurts The love, the lack and the tour And while you articulate, me, I sigh and you you me Threats to leave Because I scream when you sing your memories Well darling Take the door Because you know that nothing matters to me anymore But say goodbye tomorrow But say goodbye on the way Go see the others, I don't think so I loved you, but I assure you that this is the end Do you think you can finally tell me That you want us to remain friends No, it's nice, it goes like that Friends, I have plenty already So I won't have to hear you anymore Come home at night when I wait for dawn Who arrives pushing the hours Me, I get up and you you me Threats to leave Because I scream when you sing your memories Well darling Take the door Because you know that nothing matters to me anymore But say goodbye tomorrow But say goodbye on the way Go see the others, I don't think so I loved you, but I assure you that this is the end But say goodbye tomorrow But say goodbye on the way Go see the others, I don't think so I loved you, but I assure you that this is the end
Merci...
I Love Beatrice her talents as both a vocalist and a pianist make her a godess in my heart.... i personaly cant speak much french but my heart understands it all. when i first heard her sing i felt like i did the first time i feel in love .
I found Coeur de Pirate when I was in a really old antique shop. I was in the basement with all these beautiful pieces of furniture and Place de la Republique was playing on an antique radio. It is now one of my favorite songs
I like this version of Place de la Republique better than the album version. The string section in the album version plays different chords which changes the harmony and thus the atmosphere. Very pure and well sung and played live this version! :-)
I absolutely love this performance of Place de la Republique. With nothing but the piano and Beatrice's singing, it's just so raw with emotion and it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. So sad and yet, so beautiful.
Anyone else love to have this on like, a 7in vinyl or something? I've been coming to RU-vid for nearly 8 years just to listen to this session and it STILL gets me every time!
This is nothing! Depending on the concert hall she plays in, there's a tonality to her voice that you won't get because of audio compression. See her in a show? You'll be floored. I wish she would make a DVD-A so that we don't lose her nice voice in the process. Nonetheless, this video has a nice chamber effect that also bring me back to this clip.
She's not from Canada. She's not from France. She's from Heaven. I saw Coeur de Pirate on concert in Geneva last year, her voice is just amazing, sounds better in real life that on video, can you imagine ? I am so admirative .
That excitement when you discover a new singer and you hope that all of her songs are beautiful like the ones you already listened to. And that relieve when you find out that they are.
Jenna Nagy it's not talent. Saying someone is talented for doing something like this is at the very least insulting. She has spent years practicing and perfecting her art. She doesn't have talent to thank for but her own determination and love for the piano.
I've been playing piano for 20+ years and I can't sing and play at the same time very well. I would say it's talent. And it's not meant to be an insult. That shit's hard as hell lol
How about adding to the mix good teachers and playing piano since being small and learning to sing and have the guts, determination and having her own character to make it this good.. that is many things, not just talent
Please come to Ireland to play!! our French society at NUI Galway would welcome you with open arms and we can talk Frenglais and admire your talents!!! it is an invitation for whenever you have time. Keep up your music xxx
Place de la republique is my FAVOURITE! I've been learning french (at school) for three years and can just about understand/translate the lyrics to that one. Coeur de Pirate's wonderful songs are really useful for french - it impresses my teachers when I sing Corbeau coming in and out of the classroom...
I first heard your voice in the song "Brutal Hearts" and just hade to search for more! I do not understand French at all but you got yourself a new edmirer, please keep up your good work! 1 Love....
The Ivers & Pond piano is a pleasant surprise. It has that old, somber, almost forgotten tonal quality which complements the haunting sound of the melody well. This is beautiful.
@@thrs1994 I found some old Ivers & Pond catalogs online and was able to determine, while assuming that this piano is the 5-foot ½-inch (154cm) baby grand, that this piano was a Style 87 made somewhere between 1918 and 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, with a finish advertised as "antique mahogany." A century ago, it was more common for manufacturers to advertise their piano models as "styles" than it is today. Ivers & Pond also used the same scale design (the design of the internal parts like the strings, soundboard, and cast iron plate) for multiple styles of baby grand with different exterior furniture, so if that scale design itself had a separate model number or designation, I'm unfortunately not sure what it is. Also, The piano in this video must have been refinished at some point because the decal is missing from the fallboard (key cover), although the Ivers & Pond label is still visible on the cast iron plate inside the piano near where the strings are. Hope this helps, and thank you for the prompt. I enjoyed making this investigation
@@hypogaion_psykhes Thank you for those beautiful comments. I know quite nothing about pianos though I was almost able to feel and smell this one thanks to your explanation 🤗
