Thanks Alex, I couldn't get it apart either! Repaired it with a toggle switch as same as you, I couldn't face pulling it apart again in 6 months when the glue or wire failed.
My switch broke off and fell inside just like you showed. Very helpful showing how to open. I couldn't understand why I couldn't just push the power switch. Found the cup switch was jammed a little. Got that clicking again and grinder started again. Now i just use the handle of the brush to push the start switch through the original switch hole. No risk of damaging anything with soldering modifications.
Success - once I took mine apart it was the sensor switch that the lid activates that was clogged up and just needed a good clean - but getting the outer case off was the main help. Thanks
Thank you for this! I dis-assembled it following your video and fixed the button retaining shaft w crazy glue, reassembled and voila! Its fine now! Took only 10 minutes! Much appreciated Alexis!
Thank you for the instructions on disassembly. Similar problem to your switch, the circuit board has flexed so the plastic push button does not make contact with the micro switch on the circuit board. I braced the board from behind with a piece of foam so the button now makes contact. Working again.
Super video showing how to de assemble. I did glue an extra piece of plastic on the push bottom which also was fastened with the screw. Hopefully it works well for 5 more years. Actually its a fine Grinder. :-)
Great stuff! Thank you! I fixed my button (same problem, the tiny plastic had broken) by winding steel wire tightly around it, making a small loop for the casing-screw to hold. Works like a charm now. Thank you so much for the disassembly video! :D
I was sure I wasn't gonna find anyone with this exact same problem but here it is. this is really helpful. I'll probably just glue on the old crappy plastic switch though since it's an easier fix even though it might not last as long
Ooooh snap. Thanks for the details on this one mate. I did the button swap same yourself (first time soldering on a circuit board) and the fact it turned back on afterwards puts me over the moon. Thanks again mate.
Moral of this is never throw anything away until RU-vid has been checked. Grinders cost about $40 - 50. And besides, I'm always looking for something to do.
Thank you Alexis, you've expanded the lifetime of my grinder! without your video i would never have taken the chance of disassembling it. The faulty on/off button was not broken but not making contact with the switch, stupid to be so cheap on such an essential part! Fixed for now and if breaking down i'll just glue some more plastic to contactor. So much for German quality!
Before opening - check the lid lockout switch, if any coffee dust is in the lip between the inner and outer case it stops the lid from pressing all the way down and deactivating the lockout, simply use a knife upside down to clean out the coffee from the well and it should work again!
Thank you Alexis! With your video I could open my grinder (and not lose the safety spring - haha), and I repaired the switch by reattaching it with superglue and two cuttings taken from a small cable tie, glued to the switch's neck and wedged under the securing washer and screw. Now it works better than when new. I'm delighted!
Take out the Button and put everything together again. Take a wine cork cut it to the size of the button hole. Put it in end press gently. Your grinder is working again.
You are the man! Thank's a lot! In hope og helping any of my fellow nordic european inhabitants, (if youtube comments show up in a google seach?) this machine is identical to the OBHnordic G700. I opted to use the superglue/baking powder trick on the broken part of the button. On top of that I layed a thick layer of hotglue all over the fragile part. So far, so good. P.S. Designed to fail, like this button clearly is, should be forbidden by law!
Great info about how to repair the grinder. Have anyone noticed if the grinder is little warmer on one side all the time? I hooked up a powermeter and noticed that in stby it uses about 1w when it not is grinding, just connected. This type of 'too'l should not use any power when not in use. Maybee our is broken, but I'm not sure if it is like this on all in use.
I think mine also slightly warm on one side. Bought it used, used it for years. Just opened it after main switch button broke. Didn't see any other issues inside.
Just pulled mine apart...thanks the video was essential! My button isn’t broken though. When I press the two cutoff switches and the power button it will pulse, but not continually run. Any ideas?
D’avance merci ! Thank you Alexis for this tutorial to disassemble the grinder Krupps gvx. However mine has a slightly different problem: I have the impression that the button is not (yet) broken -vive programmed obsolescence! - the engine runs well when I press but it stops after 3 seconds !! Can anybody help me !? Thanks in advance !
Five years later, the same crappy switch is still fitted to the Krups coffee grinder. They must KNOW this fails out of warranty & expect people to buy another. Mine failed today, so I'll try to repair it, or buy ANYTHING except Krups.
Very useful, thanks. Unfortunately mine switches on but just for a second, irrespectively of the settings. I opened it, cleaned it using a product for electronic circuitry, but no result. Any idea? Thanks again.
Many thanks! I’m going to 3D print a big “button” to press the micro switch, I’ll resort to your method if that doesn’t work.... until then I’ll use a chop stick... don’t like poking fingers about when there’s electricity.
Merci pour le tuto. J'ai gardé le bouton. Un peu de colle et surtout 2 rondelles pour renforcer. La temporisation ne doit plus fonctionner avec interrupteur on/off?!
Poor design anything that relies on the pliancy of plastic will fail. I had the same problem, I fixed it by using a narrow metal picture hook as a brace and fixing the button to it with epoxy glue.
I was having a similar problem with the switch, it was operating intermittently. With the help of your video, I was able to disassemble the unit. I found that the circuit board containing the switch had slipped from the retaining clips allowing it to move away from the on/off button. I reinstalled the board into the mounts and reassembled. I never would have gotten it open without your video. THANKS
Great video to show how to disassemble the grinder to get to the switch. I was able to use crazy glue to glue the plastic tab that the switch is mounted back together. Then put a small piece of fabric on each side and glued with crazy glue. Put the switch back in and perfect. The actual switch was fine. Just the button that touches it was broken. Thanks for the video.
What are the specs on the toggle switch you used ? What connectors to solder onto the toggle switch ?Im set in EU 240volts - what to look out for when I buy the switch and when I try to solder it onto the grinder ?
It is possible to remove the silver/grey front without taking the two screws out (1:49), as it unclips at the top. I have just done this. I then removed the screw holding the remains of the button bracket, folded a piece of very strong adhesive tape over it & the "leg" on button, made a hole through for the screw & put everything back together. So far, this works but I will have to see how long it lasts. I think I will modify the button with a small piece of spring steel replacing the plastic leg which screws to the front panel. Just found the switch on eBay UK for £9.99/€11.75 Search for Krups GVX2 switch.
Yeah since I removed the front dial before taking it apart the silver/grey front panel fell off after pulling it apart. For ours the button was not broken but it was hard to press in/out and would stick on. Turned out to be a layer of grime on the button that I wiped off and now it works great but I can see how flimsy the little plastic is that hold the button which will eventually probably break. Thanks alexis c for your video which helped a lot!
@@JoseSanchez-uv9br More than two years on. my 'temporary' tape repair is still working just fine, so I've not bothered to buy a new switch. ETA That eBay search term shows they're even cheaper now - less than €7.
Hi @alexis c, thanks for the great video! Could you please post also the specs for the needed switch? There are quite a lot options in my local store.. Would be the MTS-103 Ok? Here's the store, FYI www.gme.sk/packove-spinace?onpage=80#products
This helped me a lot. I fixed my switch slightly differently. I put unscrewed the switch attachment and taped the two pieces together with duct tape, then screwed it back in. Seems to be working ok. I don;t have Alexis' skills to fix it more professionally.
So useful to see the technique to detach the clips and open the casing. If you shook the switch back into place you could activate the grinder until it dislodged again. After opening following your video I bedded the leg from the broken switch in a large blob of hot glue behind the retaining screw so it stays seated in the right place. My Krups grinder is back to life!
I see it's been quite a while since you posted this but I wanted to thank you for it. Your video was so clear and we'll done that I was confident and able to open and repair my failing grinder (nothing to do with the power button by the way). You did a great job with the video and I appreciate your having shared it.
Thanks. Looking on how to open the case. I end up fixing it by glueing the broken part with a nickel strip for battery then strengthening it with adhesive tape and it works!
Thanks for the video. That said my next tip is I happen to have a little push button "try me" switch that came with some stupid battery operated Christmas toy or something. Work perfectly
Thank you for showing how to take it apart. I cut a piece of cork and glued it next to the button, so that the button can’t fall into the unit. Works fine. Low tech solution.
Thanks for showing how to disassemble them, finally managed to get the grinder working again after fixing 3 major issues in my unit 😅 1. Snapped power button 2. Broken timer 3. Failed capacitor at the power cord
@@hikmat8329 hi, what issues are you experiencing? for my case initially the power button snapped, so i glued it back using epoxy adhesive. But after some time the grinder motor refused to start occasionally, motor seemed fine, so i suspected the timer or the motor capacitor was weak. Bypassing the timer and replacing new capacitor made it worked again, but there is no timer function anymore, you have to manually control it by adding switch at the power socket.
Hello please if you could spare a minute please tell me how you found this? Mine is the same I have replaced the plug, lead and done continuity test and suspect the capacitor is at fault
@@storegga hi, you can easily confirm if it is the capacitor by hooking up all the circuit, for my case the motor failed to start sometimes, but when you try to spin using bamboo stick (dont use your hand!) then the motor starts right away.
Thank you very much! I wouldn't be able to open it without your video. Instead of using an other button, I fixed the broken one with a cut plastic card and some adhesive tape.
Hi Alexis. I'm doing this replacement. Would this switch work? za.rs-online.com/web/p/toggle-switches/7347016/? Once replaced, does the switch still only grind for the amount of time according to the number of cups selected or is it now "manual" on / off only?
