I love my Breville kitchen products but have to say will get the Moccamaster. Something about its track record and simplicity. In terms of maintenance everyone says the Moccamaster is easy to get parts from and repair. The Breville seems like its not meant to be worked on. Wonder if the Breville's electronics will fail.

Can’t speak about moccamaster but this breville machine just works and does what I need it to do. Looks and feels professional build. The top carafe on the moccamaster doesn’t look practical with the extra lid.

@@LordCoburnicus Thanks for watching Christopher. We love both machines but sometimes the eyes go where they want to go :) You wouldn't be disappointed with either machine if you are a lover of batch brew. However if you like to experiment with different methods also, maybe Breville is the way to go. Feel free to let us know if you have any other thoughts. Cheers and Happy Brewing!

@@gmallari1461 The Moccamaster. It's been perfect. Wife was happy with the decision as well. If I want to experiment with something different I have V60, Aeropress, presspot for that.

I find myself in the same predicament now, deciding between these two. The Breville's features are so tempting. But the Moccamaster I think is just engineered for the perfect batch brew. Thanks for the great review btw!

Nice presentation! Why do they use a plastic filter holder on the KBG Moccamaster? Won't that impact the flavor after it passes through the paper filter?
@CremaCoffeeGarage
@CremaCoffeeGarage 3 года назад
Hi there, Thank you so much for watching & commenting with your question. As per Technivorm's website, they have listed the materials used to make up the Moccamaster KBG; Made with durable metal housings and BPA/BPS/BPF & Phthalate free plastics When it comes to using plastic in food/beverage production, these are obviously the only kind that you want to see being used. As for their reasons why they have chosen to use plastic in their filter baskets, that would be a question for Technivorm themselves. I have linked their contact page below for your reference. nordcoffee.com.au/pages/contact-us In regards to the flavour passing through to the coffee, I have consulted one of our roasters who owns a Moccamaster. She uses her brewer a minimum 2 times a day and has been brewing for over a year with it. No evidence so far of any flavour being passed through and no signs of wear & tear. It would be her recommendation, as is ours, to not put the plastic filter through the dishwasher. Only hand wash with hot water & no soap. She also encourages performing a descale on the machine as per instructed in the manual. We hope this has helped. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you so very much for this wonderful, in-depth reply. I am sure that everyone who reads your response will benefit and fully appreciate what you have shared with all of us. My wife and I are sold on the Moccamaster (specifically the model with the choice to make a 1/2 or a full pot). I have one more question if you are game. I watched a video where a barista executed a very precise, V60 pour-over method. In doing so, his initial, short pour with a pause resulted in the creation of a bubbling mound of coffee grinds centered in the paper filter. He stated that the mound was the outcome of the release of gas. After a short period of time, he then poured more water around the mound again and again. This gas release, he said, was important to create in that it allowed a far better extraction to take place. My question is how does the Moccamaster achieve a similar gas release? I have seen videos of it in use, and I have never seen anyone mention or show a mound where gas was being released (there is no pause in the process as water continues to trickle over the paper filter). Many Thanks!

Which one has a carafe that better retains heat?
@CremaCoffeeGarage
@CremaCoffeeGarage 3 года назад
Hi Elad, Thank you for watching & commenting! Both the Moccamaster & the Breville come with stainless steel, thermal carafe, designed to hold the heat for long periods of time. We have not personally done a test with either of the jugs but Breville claims that the jug will retain the heat for up to 3 hours after brewing. Technivorm claim that the Moccamaster 'thermal jug maintains coffee quality, integrity and taste for up to an hour' We hope this helped answer your question! Thanks again for reaching out! Can you make a single 12oz cup of coffee with this particular Moccamaster Thermal Brewer?
@CremaCoffeeGarage
@CremaCoffeeGarage 2 года назад
Hi Sharon, Thank you for watching and commenting! According to the manual for the Thermal Moccamaster, the minimum amount of water that you can fill the tank with is a 1/4Litre (250ml). A 12oz cup is the equivalent of 354mls, so you can most definitely make a single 12oz cup with this brewer. You just need to ensure you follow the manual's instructions on how to brew the smaller batches. We hope this has helped & feel free to comment with any more questions :) Happy Brewing from the Crema Coffee Crew ☕

I have the precision brewer and am loving it (after living strictly in pour over land for a very long time). However, before I buy the pour over adapter, I am wondering if it is that much different than the single cup features with the cone filter? Are you noticing a significant difference?
@CremaCoffeeGarage
@CremaCoffeeGarage 3 года назад
Hi Michael, Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You will notice slight changes when buying the pour-over adapter, due to it having the shower screen with three holes instead of the four that comes standard. Having a smaller amount of holes allows for greater precision when the water pours, but unlike a hand made pour-over, the shower screen will only channel the water straight down. If you are an avid man-made pour-over fan, I fear that it will not be able to replicate what you would be used to tasting from a pour-over. As you would know a traditional pour-over is the combination of three separate pours; the bloom, the circular and then the straight pour and they are timed a certain way also. I am thinking given that you are an avid pour-over person, you will find that if you bought the pour-over adapter for the Breville, it would taste very similar to the single cup from the cone filter. Hope this has helped you out. Thanks for watching and happy brewing from the Crema Crew!

do you need to pre wet the filter before brewing with any of them?
@CremaCoffeeGarage
@CremaCoffeeGarage 3 года назад
Hi Madi, Thank you for watching and commenting with your question! It really does come down to personal preference as to whether you would prefer to pre-wet the filter or not. There is much debate as to whether you can taste the difference or not. Wetting the filter does aid in the paper filter sticking to the permanent filter, which can be a little helpful in the preparation stage. We recommend people trying both and seeing if they notice a difference and then choosing what method and flavour works best for them. We hope this has helped answer your question. If you have any follow up questions, don't hesitate to reply! Happy Brewing from the Crema Crew!

Thank you for watching. We recommend watching the individual product reviews we have done on both machines, as the brewing times vary machine to machine. For a batch on the Moccamaster you are looking at 5-6 minutes. For a batch of the same size the Breville will be about the same, but the Breville has more variation in the size batches it can make so the making time will vary. Moccamaster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d4bgo49jkVU.html Breville: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y8m57JVzEJY.html Hope this helped. Please let us know if you have any more questions! Cheers and Happy Brewing!

The BPA thing is not really much of a selling point as they just use other things in the plastic that are just as bad for you.

You do know the circuitry on both is made in China, right? You know, just like that cell phone at arm's length. Same as that computer you used to post your comment, and the stereo components you listen to when listening to music. Or that TV set in your living room; need I list all of the other appliances throughout your house too, starting with the kitchen? 🙄🙄

Just got a new Mocamaster. Its important to realize their10 cup measurement in the water tank is actually 5.28 cups. This comes into play when selecting the amount of coffee grinds. Adding grinds for 10 cups instead of 5.28 was the problem. We could not figure out why the coffee was so strong. I guess european cups are smaller.
@jeffreyd700
@jeffreyd700 Год назад
But they give you a chart telling you how many scoops of coffee to add for every cup so I'm not seeing how that can be confusing if you're following the guide
@KeithOutWest
@KeithOutWest Год назад
European cup is 4 oz. Like @Jeffrey says, the instructions give you a chart of coffee/water amounts. Ultimately, you may want to create your own chart based upon your personal preferences.
