I remember in the late 60s my dad used to work in a mobile gas station as the lead mechanic, it had 4 bays with 4 car hoists He came a cross a killer car and bought it cheap because the guy was sick of bringing it in to get fixed. It was a 1967 Ford Fairlane. A- 390 cu in. with a 4 speed that had Shelby Cobra badges on it from the factory. All white with black bucket seats. I'll never forget one day on Victory blvd. We raced a Road Runner and just blew his doors off! My dad sold the car to my uncle. Can't remember what he did with it? I wish I had that car today! I'm sure it would be worth a few bucks! I like 68 and 69 Mustangs. I had a 68 Fairlane. It had a six cylinder three on the tree. I bought a 65 Mustang rust bucket and slipped the 289 4 speed into the Fairlane. My brother helped me set it up with a 4 speed column shift with a separate reverse lever on the floor. I would love to get a 68 or 69 Wagon and set it up like a Torino. I wonder if those cool reflective strips are available anywhere.

Just came across this video! WOW what a Torino Cobra! I have been a fan of the 1970/71 Ford Torinos, ever since they came out. I have the 1970 "Car Of the Year" Motor Trend magazine, that I bought new. I bought my 1970 Torino GT 351C in September 1973, five days before I met my wife. We sold it in December 1975, due to orders for Germany and I was told that the Torino was TO BIG for German streets! To this day, I still hold my brother responsible for me getting rid of my "Dream Car". I did buy another 1970 Torino Fastback in 1992, but it never could be equal to my Torino GT! When I see cars like this one, it brings back all my memories of the cars I owned. WAY BACK WHEN! Thanks Dennis for sharing this car with us! 😀

Toronto from Lorain Ohio. I use to write ( before internet in 1980's) to a girl from Lorain as a pen pal. She told me she was getting married to some muscian Rick star type ( I don't know if she ever did, or if she did was he anyone famous..haaaa) but I had a feeling I was getting the brush off when I sent her a photo of me sitting on the bonnet ( hood) of a Ferrari 308gts. She asked if it was mine..I said no.. After that she didn't seem to want to know..I always wondered if she was a gold digger..haaa.

A little extra info about the Lorain assembly plant. I grew up in the town that it bordered. The assembly plant was in Lorain, Ohio, but the holding lot and rail shipment area was in Vermilion. Almost everyone in Vermilion worked at the Ford plant or US Steel in Lorain. It was sad to see it close. Ohio plates list the county the car is registered in, not the city. The car could have been from any city in Lorain County. Cool car for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Dennis! I have been a Shelby Mustang and Torino fan my whole adult life. I was talking out loud at 3:30 am as you were describing this Torino Cobra. A lot of watchers don't know about the Torino Cobra. But it is a Awesome Ford. Also the 3 Torino King Cobra's. In Yellow, Orange and Red. That were prototypes. For NASCAR. Never made it to the tracks. Outlawed by NASCAR. I had a Torino with a 302 1970. But got to drive a 1971 Torino with a 429 SCJ Automatic with 3.55 gears out back. A Maroon with a yellow lazar stripe and Black Comfort Weave buckets seats and Black slats. It was scary fast. Listening to that 4 barrel suck air threw that hood scoop. Just a amazing car! I can understand now because his car is irreplaceable, but when it was new, how can you buy something like this and not take it out to drive it, to enjoy it. Every automobile we have built or restored we did it to drive, to sell it to people who would enjoy them. I have never restored anything on this level, I don't think many of us have. But everything we do is with the full purpose of being used on the roads, even the nice ones LOL Although I am usually against buying a car to keep in a garage or Warehouse, something like this is a special situation. This Torino is literally Irreplaceable as well as many of the parts on it, and with all the things that can go wrong on the road, I can understand keeping this one locked up tight in a collection.. Otherwise keep finding them, keep dragging them out of fields and getting them back on the road. I understand we can't save them all, but we can try like hell

Dennis Collins, I have a super rare '70 Plain-Jane Torino that came from the factory with 429 SCJ, drag-pack options, 4 speed, 3:91 Traction-lock rear gears. When I bought it, in 1981, it had 34k miles, and I bought it as a 5 cars wholesale package and paid $75 for the car. The Pontiac/Toyota dealer thought it was a backyard hack-job. Bell housing was severely cracked and clutch was worn-out. Here's why the car is super-rare. It's a station wagon. '70-'71, Ford produced 7 429 Torino 429 wagons. 6 had Country Squire trim and were A/T cars. 4 of them had ram-air "shaker" hoods. Only one Plain-Jane wagon 429 SCJ 4 speed wagon was produced and I still own it. It didn't need much, in 1981, to restore it and it still needs nothing. I only changed the stock steel wheels with 15x7 Magnum 500 wheels from a wrecked '71 Torino GT Ranchero. Original bell housing was aluminum. Replacement, cast iron that I bought through Hemmings Motor News in 1981. I've turned down offers as high as $60k for the car. Ford wanted it for their museum because it's a one-off only car. I own 7 fully correctly restored classic/vintage Ford high-performance cars and one vintage street-legal NHRA record holder Ford drag car that I still race once in a great while.

Hello: I only got one question !!! Did you lift the bottom back seat to find a Build Sheet !!! The Car from start to finish is Amazing. It's like the 1965 SS "396" Chevelle "Convertible". Remember they built 200 1965 SS 396 Chevelles getting the line ready for the 66 396 SS. The main man at GM Chevrolet called down and said build one more 396 and make it a "Covvertible" just for me. I understand no one knows where that car went to. Z-16 $1501.00 option !!!

ALL 429 cars (as well as 428s) with the 4-speed are close-ratio toploader transmissions, which means gears 1-3 are numerically lower. It also means it has LESS mechanical advantage than would a wide-ratio transmission and would therefore leave the line (assuming a drag-racing type of start) at a little more leisurely pace! The close ratio gearbox is equipped with a first ratio of 2.32:1; all wide ratio transmissions were supplied with a low ratio of 2.78:1(available on all small blocks and 390-equipped cars). The wide ratio delivered 19.8% more torque to the rear axle than the close ratio. Why would Ford put only the close-ratio four speed in the high performance cars? Well, those particular close-ratio transmissions ONLY came with a huge 1.375" diameter input shaft for much greater torque capacity than the lesser 1.0625". Also, the 2.32:1 gearsets, by virtue of the larger gear teeth, were able to handle more torque (some reports back in the day gave the close-ratio as much as 15% more capacity). Toploaders equipped with the 1.0625" input shaft were available in both ratios, so the big input was a close-ratio hp big block exclusive. The 390-equipped and 428-429 cars' input shafts were about ⅝" shorter than the small blocks'. Now, here's a little aside for people who like trivia. The gearset found in Ford's famous GT40 MkII T-44 transaxle was based on the toploader's gearset, but had a super-close low ratio of 2.22:1! If you find a T-44, you've found gold!

You keep spinning up toploader close ratio 4 speeds. You said that the close ratio gets off of the line quicker. Well that's not true. The wide ratio has a lower first gear 2.78 the close ratio is only a 2.32 first gear. Now multiply 2.78 x 4.30 =11.954.....2.32x4.30=9.976. That is a big difference.

Dennis, I love ya, but when are you going to get off your stack and have some of the outdoor open areas covered? Seems like it would be a no-brainer so as to keep everything out of the weather? Just my dos centavos. Love your content!

SUPER RARE - SUPER HOLY GRAIL - SUPER COBRA JET 429 TORINO - ONE OWNER CAR - WITH 17K ON THE CLOCK. You cannot restore a car to this same condition - so let's get it back out there among the young so they enjoy it - and the new owner will test his skills, punch it, and this ultra-rare - super collectible car, will suddenly launch into a containment divider, flip, tumble end over end, roll six or seven times, and end up as twisted wreck, that ignites on fire, and burns for 25 minutes before the fire department can make its way through traffic to extinguish charred remains of this ULTRA ULTRA RARE EXQUISITE EXAMPLE OF A 1970 fORD TORINO! That's how I see this going - as I have seen it before.

Here in Uk we don't really have decent enough weather for classic cars, I'm lucky enough to have 2 cars for myself, everyday car is a C63 AMG Merc (6.2ltr v8 monster), but my pride and joy is my 73 Escort Mexico........ wife and daughters have been banned from driving it, I've had it for over 20 years and it's kept in a garage and only comes out when there is zero chance of rain (which in Britain is about 70 days per year)

Dang dude!! I'm from Detroit. A teen in the 60's. Everything was sports car after sports car coming from the big three Auto makers every year. Lived 3 miles from the GM tech center. The employees drove corvettes and I watched them at 5 pm everyday cruise home on 12 mile road. Corvette after corvette. I was awed. Nuff said. Remember visiting the Ford assembly line. Watched 69 Mustangs go down the assembly line. That's why I have sports car in my blood. Had two Trans Am's 76. One was 455 stick the other bought 2 years later (white also) 400 auto. Funny thing the 455 only had like 200 horsepower. Strange right? At the time it was consider a great car. Doubt it if would beat the Mach I though with their 429's.

I had a 1970 Torino Cobra, 429scj 4speed, drag pack before I went in the service. I bought it from a doctor who bought it new and it had 97k miles on it. I traded it for a 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT Holman and Moody edition with 427 4 speed. My Torino had window slats but did not have the shaker hood scoop. The "N" code in carrier tag indicates a nodular.

What a beautiful Torino. I think that's the rarest car I've ever seen. And I love that you're trying to get the younger generation involved into the older cars like that. And trying to get them out of the Barns and Fields and everywhere else and back on the road.

Hi, to watch this video a few times to understand I think why Kelsey kept giggling. I think it’s because the way Dennis was acting. He was so excited and he was tripping over his words and stumbling over everything, it was like watching a little schoolboy it was just so amazing the amount of passionthat Dennis and his family and his whole crew have over these cars. It’s unbelievable.

For a Torino. That is not a "holy grail" car. A Taladaga is the holy grail. It was an "areo" car.to compete with Daytona's, Superbirds. And the mercury.all built in the same time period. For NASCAR racing.

I bought a 70 Torino cobra in 96 at the age of 17 . It wasnt great, it was rough but I had it restored over 6 years. Not concourse by any stretch but it was sweet as tits. Unfortunately, wet roads, speed and a drunk driver (not me) horseshoed the car around a pole. On the positive side, the engine and trans ended up in the hands of a gentleman building a 70 fastback stang, so it's heart and soul lived on. It was the only Ford muscle car I have ever owned, my passion since I was a young boy has always been 67-72 F250 Highboys, even to this day. I do miss that car some kind of terrible. Great finds Dennis, keep the hobby alive.

I agree that we need to get the younger generation into muscle cars again, however, they'll never be into it because boomers have such high prices set for almost any example worth working on. Also in some cases, cars that aren't even worth working on.

Supposedly in Manassas Virginia. There is a son of a Ford Body man that inherited a Mustang Shelby and a Maverick Shelby from Mexico . They were Trade ins during the Gas Shortage . Story goes that when the owner died, they had the Insurance Agent come by to Estimate the value of the House and garage. They had No idea of the Value of the cars. When the Insurance guy saw the Shelby Mustang, he told the owners the car was worth more then the Garage. Surprised, the Owners asked him to look at the other car under a tarp. It was a Shelby Maverick, sold in Mexico. This is all hear say on my part. But makes an interesting story. Someone w/good Investigation skills could verify.

I had a 1967 GT500, all original, met Shelby and he signed it. My ex wife didn't have a legal claim to it in divorce court, so she promised to sue my until I was forced to sell the car, simply because she didn't want me to have it. She sued me for years after we were divorced and she had remarried, and I was finally forced to sell the car... Oh yeah, her family had just inherited $20-30 million or so, and she sued me until I was broke and bankrupt... I miss not having to the car and doing the fun car stuff, I love the old muscle cars that I grew up with.

Dennis love the torino. But did you know that a company called copper craft built one that is almost identical and was painted copper. Would like to see how many are still around. Always watching coffee walk you and your team should be given a medal for saving so many outstanding car and trucks. Keep up good work. See ya soon on utube.

I know Dennis paid a premium price for this, but I'm sure he didn't pay top dollar. I'm curious as to what the real value of the car is today? Is it a $100k car or is it a $500k car? My last Torino sold for a mere $1,500...but it certainly wasn't special and needed a lot of hard-to-find parts replaced.

That year shelby is absolutely the worst and the 350 ??? Blah.... Horrible.... ANd can we stop with the "Holy Grail" crap ? You under stand that it was used because of course there is supposed to be one single grail and of course because there was but one used by Christ at that time that one single grail is unique in every way from any other artifact in the universe.... Saying that its "Rare" doesnt even cut it really. Its not rare , its one.... Thats it Calling every other car a "Holy Grain" is just ignorant now... Its always bothered me but you are grown people making the most ignorant of statements... IF that car is the "Holy Grain" of cars then there is no other car that could be that,,,,,right ??? But hell no , anything we want to give value to (read car salesman) we call it a "Holy Grain" blah blah blah... Not that I am religious in any way but god damn people . Listen to the salesman crap coming out of your mouth.... We have a whole english language to use to describe something , try using something that makes some damn sense...

He started out saying he started buying cars at 14-15 years old.. What the heck kind of privileged life is that? I never knew a 14 year old with two dimes to rub together unless grandma sent a birthday card then maybe $14-$15 dollars. One for each year.
