Chris describes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), or CBT-AR, and provides a group of parents, including Evelyna and Cait, with information about what ARFID is and how it differs from picky eating, what treatment involves, and how to find a provider.
Novel form of outpatient form of of CBT
Though CBT-AR is not yet an officially evidenced-based treatment for ARFID, it is currently under study by Dr. Jenny Thomas and Dr. Kamryn Eddy's team at Massachusetts General Hospital, at the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program. Though the treatment is still experimental, there is one open trial with no control group for children and adolescents currently under revision, and a trial with adults is underway. Dr. Thomas and Eddy's team at MGH is currently designing controlled studies.
This presentation was made with Dr. Thomas and Eddy's permission.
