Never will forget them performing this at All Tomorrow's Parties. Strange and beautiful. & Jhon was wearing nightgown, which was somehow quite fitting.
(Nikola Tesla: You're familiar with the phrase "Man's reach exceeds his grasp"? It's a lie. Man's grasp exceeds his nerve. Society only tolerates one change at a time. The first time I tried to change the world, I was hailed as a visionary, the second time I was asked politely to retire. So here I am enjoying my "Retirement". Nothing is impossible, Mr. Angier, what you want is simply expensive.)
the live version on 'the ambulance died in his arms' (i think if i remember correctly) is where the vocal on this is culled from...that is the ultimate version of this track.
I first listened to this album many years ago, maybe over a decade ago, and it was extremely captivating though I didn't explore Coil's other offerings as I felt I was not 'ready' for the intensity of truth that could be found within their work. I am glad that I gave myself the time, rediscovering this album now in my 30s and feeling like I was ready to explore further has proved wonderful.
I´ve always found the live version of this on "... and the ambulance died in his arms" gut-wrenching ... might as well have had somebody on stage to burn him alive or some equally horrible means of execution. "Body´s instinct to fight death by all means" vs "Slow premeditated Suicide" - Oh well, was going to use my words but what would they mean against his own: "it just is"
I find that most Coil tunes do remind one of video games. They have those cheesy-sounding (not a bad thing in the case of Coil) synths, on this album especially.
before techno, there was coil and Meat Beat Manifesto, after Windowpane came out bands like The Shamen, Orbital, MOBY etc started. but this band was a heavy influence back then
I think this song is trying to send thoughts into our brain causing us to slowly be turned into the guy on the cover. please stop watching I know I will...
I really wonder if the beginning of this track reminds anyone else of this tune from Ace Attorney 4: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r8vJZIwZipE.html
