WATCH THIS VIDEO BEFORE YOU START COLLECTING COINS! This is an informational resource that should give you a brief overview of everything there is to know for a starting coin collector. It's not structured with a lot of presentations, more just like a conversation that jumps around from topic to topic to provide what you need to know to start out. Very brief treatment of world/ancient coins and paper money (I really don't know much at all about ancients) but the main focus is on US coinage. Mint marks, different iconic coins (mainly the recent stuff from the 19th century with a few weird denominations), grading, places to buy and sell coins, understanding the third party grading companies, different strike types, different problem coin features, and general tips for a newbie.

When I started coin collecting, I had a two-cent piece that was different from the other two cent pieces that the guys in the club had. There were two guys and charge of the group then it were longtime collectors. One of the guys offered me $30 for my $0.02 piece. That time in 1979 $30 was a lot of money to a kid just out of high school with newborn son. Fortunately for me the other guy that was in charge of the club said that if that was a coin he thought it was it was a lot more valuable than $30 and he wouldn't allow him to make that deal with me. Turned out my coin is actually very valuable and rare. Thank goodness someone stood up to someone that was willing to take advantage of the beginner

@@kamoroso94 on the back of it the eagle is holding arrows in its hand. The cheaper one of the tool is holding eight arrows, four in each claw and the one that I have is holding 13 arrows representing the original 13 colonies. They made about 1000 of them 20 years ago. It was worth about $2500. But I’m not sure what it’s worth now I haven’t checked that stuff out. I’ve been really cool they’re actually about the sized of the half dollar.

I used to love how they looked when I was younger and I would collect those that were randomly found around the house and sometimes buy them, but I kept losing them because instead of putting them somewhere safe I loved them so much that I always had them with me so I would often lose them, now I only have 2 left! One of them is the British 10 pence, which I’m proud of because i live in the Middle East and the UK is very far away! The other one I have is my favorite it’s a 2000 irani riyal coin, which is a bit bigger than the British one and way more beautiful and detailed.

May have been able to claim a homeowners insurance claim and get back maybe a few thousand? I’m just starting to really considering getting into it. Idk how you should start organizing to streamline? By type and years? Look for known errors that way? What about new errors discovered? Do you have to go back and review all your coins? Should you waste time trying to discover new unknown errors? So many opportunities I’d be worried I missed. I’ve been burned before for thousands selling an object so.. 😄

Loved the video, but as a quick note to beginners: not every coin with a low montage will become a key or semi-key date. It all depends on how many were preserved. For example, many Carson City Morgan dollars aren’t very hard to find, despite the mintages being low. In contrast, some Morgan dollars from other mints are harder to find, despite the fact that more were made.

Ive been collecting for almost twenty years. I always tell newbies that collecting coins is not about getting rich , it's about the love of collecting. I also tell people that you don't have to be rich to collect coins I'm far from Rich and over the last 20 years I've amassed a very impressive collection with some very valuable coins. When I say valuable that can sometimes mean valuable as in money but most the time I mean valuable to me. As an example I love halftimes and they're not worth much money but they're valuable to me and I also love ancient coins from the Roman era and they are extremely cheap but they're so cool so my advice to any new collector would be have fun and whatever you do no matter what never clean your coins.

Like a quick guide. And I’m speaking in terms of::: I got .35 cents in change, 3 dimes 1 nickel, are any of the 4 coins worth even 1¢ more then it’s face value! How do I find this out?

Figuritively speaking, if you were handed two coins. One is a gold liberty coin from 2000, the other is a steel coin from the debris of 1993 World Trade Center bombing that was made from the material. Which coin would have more value and meaning? This is figurative of course, no one would make a steel coin from that event probably. But would the steel coin be more valuable or would the gold liberty coin?
