Coin Conversation with Ian Russell, President of GreatCollections 

I have consigned and purchased many coins with Great Collections and they are my go to first auction site. They have also submitted a raw proof Trade Dollar for me to PCGS. The systems and processes in place are amazingly efficient for their auction volume. I can always reach someone quickly if needed. I am made to feel valued as a client whether I spend $20 or $10,000. Ian Russell and Great Collections are a credit to the hobby and industry. They have earned my respect, loyalty, and business.

Great collections is great. Says so right there in their name. I prefer shopping with them vs ebay. The professionalism is all there and the quality of the stuff I get is always solid.

GC is my preferred online auction site I purchase from... much lower buyer's premiums than the other auction houses, and good quality stuff!

I've enjoyed using Great Collections to purchase some coins over the past few years. The website gets a lot of attention, as I get outbid a LOT and win far fewer auctions than I bid in. I'm one of those that actually likes the fact that the website has an "old school" feel. I can search and navigate around it faster than other sites that have a more modern feel. I like that the buyer's premium is lower than other auction sites, and shipping is very reasonable. I also like that they have auctions ending every week. They almost always ship the coins out the day following auction completion as well. I thoroughly enjoyed your coin talk with Ian Russell. Conversations like this are why you've gotten the following you have (which is way less than you deserve, by the way). I think I subbed you back when you had under a thousand subscribers - soon you'll be pushing 20K!

Great interview, Ben! Congrats on getting another very important, influential person in the industry on the channel. I’ve bought and sold some coins with GC & I’ve always been impressed with them. Their fee structure is one of the best in the biz, they are very efficient & I’m always amazed at the prices realized on high end coins/rarities. They are obviously doing a lot of things right over there.

Ben, if you haven’t already done so, you should do a show on your personal collection, if you still put coins away for a later day, your first prized possession,etc. Would love to hear that stuff. Thanks-Jeff from LB Coin Show

Ian, you'll make A LOT more money if you show the front AND back of the slab/coin on the search pages. 2 sided toned coins and the "gold embossed" back of the old NGC holders are just 2 examples of things buyers look for and would bid on if they were made aware of it from the search page. You can mail my check to Ben for my recommendation and he will forward it to me ; )

Ian Russell and GC are great. They're very customer-friendly, and you can call an actual human-type person what speaks ze English to verbally hold your hand through the consignment process.

I have dealt (buying and selling) with GC and Ian for years....he even was able to auction my wife's Island of Yap stone!

Terrific interview. Ben flexing with the PQ+++ coins! I especially enjoyed the discussion of what makes for a “good” auction coin. If it’s hard to price and it has substantial upside with limited downside, off to GC it goes!

Great interview. My choice for Great Collection is they not only slabbed coins for their auctions but also raw coins. They will have them slabbed at your cost of course but they will put them into auction after grading. Plus if you have a problem they are right on with truthful answers not bull. Thanks Ben and Ian.

Great guy. A few years ago I requested GC to auction my complete set of PCGS Wheats. . They somehow “lost” my email. When they finally reached out I had already contracted with Heritage. A few hours later Ian called and apologized personally. I now have a complete collection of PCGS graded Morgan’s. I look forward to consigning them with GC in a few months.

I'm not into expensive coins as it's not in my budget but I enjoy seeing the nice coins. I'm also not into stabbed coins but I have a coin I found metal detecting that I feel I should have graded as I would guesse it's either a 2000 dollar coin or a 20k plus coin. if it's worth 20k plus I won't waNt to keep it in my house any longer I would probably sell it.

Also, I was curious about GC accepting coins and they have NGC grade them for their auctions - The coin I purchased had Great Collections on the reverse of the slab. Is this a service of GC?
