Cold 187um: If Eazy-E Were More Seasoned He Would've Fired Jerry

www.vladtv.com - When Ice Cube left N.W.A., Cold 187um of Above the Law says the whole ordeal was "disheartening" to all those involved. "When that happened it was like everything got exposed," he recalls. "Around Ruthless [Records] it was like a question mark, really. But then you have to think like, we're really young and it's a lot of money coming in, so who knows what's going on?"
Big Hutch - who claims he "ghost-produced" on N.W.A.'s "100 Miles and Runnin'" - remembers there being a bit of understood animosity between Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Ice Cube around the time Cube departed. "I think that's what people didn't grasp at the time. But it's like, if we're all brothers and we rollin' with something just roll with us," Cold 187um relays to us. If it were up to him, however, Jerry Heller would have gotten the boot before Ice Cube moved on to do his own thing. He feels them all being young at the time played a big part in the group's demise, and had Eazy-E been "more seasoned" he would have known to fire Heller, being that "everybody had question marks" regarding the manager.
In the end, Cold 187um has a hell of a lot of respect for Heller, especially since he got his "first legal money from him." "He was really an a**hole in the early days," he remembers, but once he stood up to him that all changed. "If you wasn't one on one with him, he wouldn't respect you."
Hear more from Cold 187um regarding Ice Cube leaving N.W.A. and his thoughts on "No Vaseline" in another informative West Coast exclusive.

Cold 187 made a good point. If you're the owner(Eazy E)... you don't let Lebron(Ice Cube)leave... you get rid the coach(Jerry Heller).
@martyc909
@martyc909 6 лет назад
Nah, Eazy was the owner, Jerry was the manager hired by Eazy. Cold 187 was right, as the owner Eazy needed to keep LeBron. To the day he died, Jerry still talked down about Cube about said he wasn't good for the group. But that's because Cube saw the bigger picture. Eazy should have tried to keep Cube, launch his solo career and Ruthless would have had two stars. Jerry only saw Ruthless as a one star label with Eazy.

Nah Vlad. You set tripping. Niggaz4Life is a better album all around. The beats is more polish. It has more of a movie feel to it with the skits. The writing still up to par. Efil4zaggin, was a much better record than SOC. Production and lyrically. The only difference was SOC came first, so of course the impact would've been more shocking. Efil4zaggin went in @ number one on the POP CHARTS. Think about that, in 1991 Hip Hop, especially Gangsta Rap, was not making that kind of noise in mainstream culture.
@JuggaloSupreme
@JuggaloSupreme 6 лет назад
Production maybe...lyrically? Get the fuck outta here!! S.O.C., F.the Police, Gangsta Gangsta, I Ain't the 1, Dopeman, 8 Ball...efil4zaggin doesn't have that many strong songs. I don't think so. Dope album but S.O.C. is a classic.

I'm glad this movie is out cause in my mind, Eazy-E is the single most important figure in Hip Hop when it comes to the concept of "Rags to Riches"... all what Puffy, Jay and a few others are doing now are a direct consequence of his success and letting people know that you don't have to conform to be successful.
@elliot2177
@elliot2177 9 лет назад
Not really.,Barry gody is the top influence as far as music in general. Puffy is the one who Did it for hip hop.I can't say Easy E because he was still getting raped.Puffy was not..he is the one who started getting your own label without getting fucked...
@DJObiSmalls
@DJObiSmalls 9 лет назад
E Haynes Errr.... Yea, A) incase you didn't know, I'm talking about Hip Hop and B) How was he getting "raped"? Know your facts, he got a bigger cut more than anyone and OWNED the company; and if you think that Puff didn't get taken advantage of in the beginning (not even to talk about the extortion by street hustlers) then you need a reality check.
@elliot2177
@elliot2177 9 лет назад
Obi Smalls hip hop wise it was not Easy E its puff .Did you see the movie? Easy e house and all his shit was being repossessed thata how he was getting raped.Puffy was the first black man in hip hop to actually sucessfully cut out the middle man(usually white) and get a distrubution deal.he was the first until him, mofos were getting raped including N.W.A. Extortion shit is some street shit whether that hapoened or not I have never heard of it and don't give a fuck.Im talking about business.Business wise ,puffy opened door for all these young,black entrepreneur to have thier own without being raped by those big coporations.Now you have young money ,ovo,good music,mmg, etc...Those labels would have never been possible if it were not for Puffy,period.

Efil4zaggin is a better album than Straight Outta Compton in every aspect. If Cube were on it, it would break the rap game apart, but even without him it is the best N.W.A. album period. Even though it didn't have powerful political songs like the previous one, it had a much much bigger impact musicaly wise and changed the course of the game.

Here's some insight that people don't really talk about: It was actually Cold 187um/Above the Law who was working with Snoop Dogg before Dre did while still at Ruthless. When Dre broke out, of course Snoop went with him, and Cold 187um said in an interview that he was going to leave as well but Eazy wasn't going to allow that shit. Even MC Ren was distancing himself from Eazy, hence the shoutout Snoop gave him during the Chronic intro because he was there in the studio. Now fast forward to Eazy's EP, It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa. The title is also low-key dissing Cold 187um if you think about it. I understand he even produced a track on there but still
@donmegadonmega3533

I always thought he threw a jab at Cold 187um in the title, as all Eazy dissed was Dre and Snoop on the album. Still a classic. Oh yeah, "No Vaseline" is still the #1 Beef song, #2 is Pac's "Hit 'Em Up". Yeah yeah I know KRS-One's "The Bridge Is Over" is classic too. Nas' "Ether" as well. Above The Law Even if Above the Law wanted to leave early on in 1991/1992 they really couldnt because they were on contract with Ruthless Records for a total of a 4 album deal. and when they did find the opportunity to leave Ruthless it was a year after Eazy E's passing when tomica wright took over the ruthless label and above the law was then able to leave and sign with Tommy Boy Records. But same thing with Bone Thugs, even when they wanted to leave ruthless in early 1996 they couldnt because they were still on contract and werent allowed to leave until they honored the contract of finishing 6 albums total besides their solo projects.

Eazy had the rap game at his fingertips if he wasn’t so under Jerry Mannnnn Ruthless to me in my personal opinion would’ve been Wayyyyyyy bigger than Deathrow Eazy was a seasoned CEO, Cube n Dre stayed & Ren didn’t distance himself from Eazy the way he did. Possibilities for Eazy & Ruthless would be unstoppable.

Cold seems like a a dude who knows business and has common sense. But I have to side with Ice Cube, if you wrote nearly all the songs on the album along with number hits. Your on the rode an as a group probably seeing fifteen or a little more a show living off that, then towards the end of the tour your given contracts to sign for only eighty thousand dollars. I'd feel the same way he did, because he was being cheated.
@JuggaloSupreme
@JuggaloSupreme 6 лет назад
You forget that the bus, hotels, food, shows, etc. cost a lotta $. 80,000 is like 160,000 today. Cube was NEVER gonna make what Eazy made...E was an OWNER and INVESTOR. Without his loot, there is NO N.W.A. Not saying he didn't deserve more, but he was expecting too much too soon.

This is what ppl don't understand , you can't get in to the music industry without a extra push , eazy had some money and NWA were good , but for them to go mainstream and sell millions of copies just like most successful stars there was someone in the background , a wealthy man , usually a Jew .. and for the NWA it was jerry heller . He invested in NWA not because he cared for them but because he cared for what he could gain from them , nwa guys guys were young black kids from the hood who just wanted money , Jerry was into all that devil worshiping stuff and eazy and Dre were kids tagging along with him coz the more they associated themselves with these corporate ppl the more money they made but they ddnt realise these contracts were now like their life to the investors .. bone thugs cams up quick cz they were introduced to the dark stuff .. but there comes a time when they realise that it's wrong and ppl keep thinking eazy E ddnt want to believe Jerry was messed up .. he knew Jerry was fucked but understand there were consequences hence why he risked his group falling apart .. as Eric got older he started to grow , humbled himself more and didn't wanna be controlled anymore , unlike Dr Dre today with his controller , Another wealthy Jew Jimmy Iovine... have you seen Dj yellah and MC ren, they talk too much after eazy' death .. They are all deeply religious and stayed clean and were blacklisted .. unlike Cube and Dre who blew up .. it's a messed up game , I seen it first hand,

you can't just Fire a manager like Jerry. that would be underestimating their Power and importance in the game.
