Whats, whys and hows of cold calling. If we translate cold calling in Hindi, we can understand that it is something similar to cold iron. If we want to shape iron then we need to warm it. Like wise if we want to sell something to people we do not know, we will have to warm them.
Cold calling is our sales call to people we do not know and even they do not know us. They have never shown their interest in our products and services. The traditional sales people never approved of cold calling. Even if you search google, you will find number of articles against cold calling, but personally I am in favour of this sales technique and believe it fully. I have applied various cold calling skills in my selling career and got amazing results.
When you start your sales career, you go to your immediate relations first, like your brother in law, your uncles, your friends etc. They do buy from you and encourage you but do not give references because the reason of buying from you was not the liking of your products or servies but instead they wanted to help you. And after some time you realise that you are in wrong profession, perhaps.
Same thing happened to me and I decided to rely on cold calling. They do not know you and you do not know them, even if they reject you, you do not feel small, unlike in the case of known people.
In my sales career, I sold paint, life insurance, chemicals like Calcium chloride, Zinc chloride, Murcuric chloride, paraffin wax, PVC separators, books, and now selling training programs and motivational seminars. I love selling to unknown people i.e. cold calling.
