Hey friends!
This week we have another viewer suggestion this time from Benedicte.
We're covering a cold case out of Canada that occurred 46 years ago. Sharron Prior was young, and full of life-- she loved her family and friends. During Easter weekend in 1975, she chose to go and meet her friends at the local teen hangout spot located 5 miles from her house, but unfortunately would never make it. For days no one know where Sharron was, until on April 1st she would be found 25 miles from the neighborhood she called home. To this day, no one knows what happened to Sharron and her family still wants answers.

Isn't that beautiful that we finally know who killed Sharron. 24 May 2023. Took a long time but hey never, never give up. Happy for her mom, she now knows the answer to the quuestion she has been asking herself for 48 years and almost 2 months : "Who killed my daughter?"

No longer a cold case. They confirmed the killer was Franklin Romine from West Virginia, turns out it wasn't a local after all. The killer had been dead for a long time but at least her family and especially her poor mother finally have the answers after 48 years. They really shouldn't take a profiler's word at face value, if they had investigated known criminals who passing through the area at the time of the murder instead of only investigating the locals, they might have found him before because they knew he was there at that time.

I wonder if that braggart who died in 82 truly was the killer? Could he be pegged to that area at that time? I wanna dig more into him as a suspect!

You should cover the horrific 1987 cold case murder of Kathy Martin Odom in Houston, Texas that was finally solved. She was my sister’s best friend growing up in the 1970s and I have funny and wonderful memories of her as I was the annoying baby sister that always wanted to tag along with them. It’s was covered by that major television show Blood, Lies, and Alibis.

Thanks Ash, as usual, professional and well researched. Evidence was lost. I'm not surprised, a number of Cnd missing children's files/evidence have been lost, due to water damage, moving from one building site to another. Also no photo copier back in the day, so writing has faded to almost non existence. Children have also gone missing around Easter, something about that holiday. Let us hope that the small amount of DNA comes up with a familiar. RIP Sharon

Such a sad case. Thanks for sharing it. IMO, the 8-1/2 shoe print at the crime scene is the best link to whom the killer was. I would extract from this that the killer was likely 5-8 to 5-10 in height. It might be too late but they should review the potential suspects looking for men that fit these two features. I'm confused that the knife-wielder would then carry out a murder without stabbing Sharron. The strewn panties on the lamppost is also a sign. It shows he *wanted* his handiwork to be found as if he wanted credit from someone. I'd guess the killer to be younger, immature and possibly extraordinarily shy with women. My heart goes out to Yvonne and her family.
@unde.rtheashtree
@unde.rtheashtree 2 года назад
I think that’s a pretty good guess. I know one article I was reading stated most men with shoes that size were on the smaller side and it didn’t add up with the shirt which helped the theory of an additional perp. I think if it was the same guy the knife was strictly for intimidation just to assist in getting a victim. Because the attacker was a suspected sadist meaning a short quick death would not be sufficient enough. I was thinking along those lines about the underwear, I know they theorized it was tossed as an afterthought but idk I feel like if that were the case they would have been left on the ground like the rest of her things. I hope they look into the case or are still looking into- there haven’t been too many updates. I hope she and the family can get some justice.
@rosered103
@rosered103 2 года назад
@Bob Hulsey I agree about the knife. IMO 8 1/2 shoe size is small for a man, with the deeper than norm impression I would guesstimate he was overweight. However even if overweight some men are about the height you mentioned Bob, with small feet and can dance extraordinarily well. I'm wondering if there was a wrestling club in the area? He had to have had a car or some mod of transport. And yet nothing after the two young girls. That is interesting.

If he was living with his parents he wouldn’t have been able to keep her for so many days. So he must have had his own place. As for hanging her underwear in the tree - that’s to humiliate her further.

You'd be surprised, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered and dismembered one of his victim's in his grandmother's home, Myra Hindley and Ian Brady murdered a teenage boy while Myra's grandmother was upstairs and other serial killers have kept victims in basements and outbuildings whilst being married, some with children and even having lodgers. I agree regarding the underwear, to humiliate and signal his dominance over her, as his victory. Disgusting.

Today, May 23, 2023 it was confirmed through DNA evidence that a man from West Virginia named Franklin Romine was guilty of the rape and murder. He had fled to Canada for charges of a previous rape. But was caught and sent back to West Virginia in 1976 to stand trial for the first rape and burlgery. His first trial reversed the conviction and a second trial was set. In 1981 he pleaded guilty and sentence to 5-10 years but was released early for timed served. He died in Verdun, Montreal in 1982. Since it seems unclear how long he had been back in Montreal, he may also be the man responsible for Tammy Leaky.

I'm thinking Sharon's killer was older and now dead. Whoever it was had the means to keep her captive. At the same time the killer downsized his victim type. Also, the killer obviously knew the area extremely well. These facts make me think it was that older, against the norm, type serial killer. Rip Sharron.

What ever happened with the DNA they found on the clothing? The cops didn't just "drop the ball" in this one. They straight up forgot to even put the ball into play. I know a lot of that has to do with the bittersweet reality that they hadn't dealt with anything like this, so they didn't have a clue what they were doing. Then add in how different it would've been, just the fact that it's that far in the past. The mother shouldn't have to find out her missing daughter is now her dead daughter because of a front page photo. Which I've always felt was a dick move by press outlets. Don't freaking show the body of a person, much less a minor, on your story. It's bad enough they ran it in a sensationalist way, you don't have to add to the devastating humiliation this person & their loved ones have endured. I mean, I get it's the news and you need to report what's going on, but there's a right and wrong way to do that. I've always felt that the press should have to wait to run stories with gruesome photos, speculation on the who/why/how of it all, and their theories with little to no actual understanding of their lives, let alone the deaths. I feel like either the police get to say when it's okay based on the family of the deceased being notified or that there's been sufficient time for them to be found and notified. Also, if a journalist, if we can even call them such anymore, is able to figure out the family's identity & location they need to give they to the police and wait for them to be notified. There are way too many stories that show the press made the whole thing so much more painful and depressing than it had to be. We have done a lot to fix how police handle these crimes. Had advancements in tech that are amazing and have truly learned from past mistakes; we've created databases of DNA of anyone they've ever had to bring in and that's amazing. Why do we let press get away with the kind of shit that we wouldn't expect even back then, before there was an understanding amongst society that mental health is important and these things have a massive impact when you see your missing child be confirmed to be dead via a newspaper exploiting your loss and her body's cruel abandonment to sell papers.

The profiler believed the killer was local & in his 20's still living with his parents, yet Cheryl was held for days before her death??? I highly doubt he held her at his parents home for any amount of time while alive anyway. Dont get me wrong, I can appreciate the info a profiler can provide detectives but its not a guaranteed science. All to often the profiler's description is taken verbatim while neglecting other potential suspects who do not fit the profile given.
