Lyrics:
Listen now to the wind babe
Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more
Wastin' my days on a factory floor
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
Anytime you want babe, you can come around
But only six days separates me and the great top end
I been working hard, tweleve hours a day
And the money I saved won't buy my youth again
Goin' for the heat babe, and a tropical rain
In a place where no man's puttin' on the dog for me
Waitin' on the weekend, set o' brand new tyres
And back in Bow River's just where I want to be
Listen now to the wind babe
Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more
Too many years made up my mind to go or stay
Right to my dying day
I don't want to see another engine line
Too many years and I owe my mind
First set o' wheels headin' back Bow River again
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
Got the motor runnin', got the rest of my days
Sold everything I owned for a song
So anytime you want babe, you can come around
But don't leave it too late you just might find me gone
Listen now to the wind babe . . .
I don't need the score
I'm goin' through the door
Gonna tell the man I don't want no more
Pick up a fast car and burn my name in the road
One week two week maybe even more
Piss all my money up against the damn wall
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again

I picked up on great Australian and NZ music after being an exchange student in 1980 in NZ. Returning home to US, it was a struggle to always find the imports. Fortunately I found a guy that had great connections. I’d be jamming to Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl, Mondo Rock, Split Enz, Mental as Anything and Icehouse -and friends thought I was nuts, until they too became fans.

I've always loved this song , arguably the best song on Circus Animals . Its great the way Jimmy backs up Ian . I think that is where Barnsey is at his best , backing or harmonizing with Mossy or Richard Clapton or anyone . How about Phil's bass ? So funky and spot on . He is is one of the great rock and roll ( Blues style ) bass players ever . I reckon he could fit in with any of the great rock bands .

@randomcommenterfromdownund8949
Yes indeed. These days, I go to pubs, and the live music is one half thud-thud-thud from a really large drum kit, and the other half of it is vocals, if you're lucky a lead guitar, and a backing track with the rest of the instruments on it. :-( I'd rather than drum kit be on a backing track, turned down, and the guitars, bass and keyboards live. Oh, and Barnesy isn't a screamer compared to a lot of what's out there, that IS just screaming without really much at all in the way of melody being sung in between. Angry fast-spoken bad beat poetry to me does not a song make, either. You know a band or artist isn't fully there musically when they have to depend on gimmicks like backup dancers picking them up and carrying them around stage to create a show.

Their best song by a country mile, even Barnes can't fuck it up. John Swan blew his half brother away. Saw him a few times in the '70s, absolutely brilliant. Him and the boys put on great shows.

Massive Cold Chisel and Don Walker fan. First heard this song at a CC gig in Albury, NSW. I was right up the front leaning on the stage making eye contact with Jimmy and Mossy. Almost 40 years on it is one of the highlights of my life. Thanks you guys...

I only googled this song as it’s the theme tune for the Aussie Export TV show, Outback Truckers and I couldn’t hear all the lyrics. The tv programme should have its own theme tune. This is a great track played live on stage, wish id been in the audience!
