Cold Finishes with Rocky Lewycky 

As an person walking between two worlds, this makes an interesting battle of effects in my head. In materials work, tens of millions of dollars have been spent over decades trying to eliminate rust formation, while for artistic use, I can see the appeal of artificial aging and weathering. If that work has taught me anything, it's a lot easier to make rust than to attempt to limit it. Not with the intention of dissuading purchase of commercial products, but as it goes with time, things you like will suddenly disappear off the market and leave you to best replicate it. Black iron oxide is an easy paint additive in a very fine particle size, and as said, making this rust is quite easy. Salt water/brine is a relatively slow oxidizer but very effective especially at high concentrations. Common household bleach is a bit quicker and equally cheap as far as materials go. Metal dust can be sprinkled on wet spray adhesives and you can figure out the rest.

Watching this again as I have a large sculpture to treat. my dilemma was to high fire or not. based on this tutorial I will high fire as it freezes here in the UK.

Hi I have just watched this over two lunch breaks. It is an area that I was starting to explore on my own with some disappointments I especially like the Gold leaf and Fake gold leaf because I have been trying to get a consistent Gold effect using Spectrum glaze Golden Halo which is a cone 05 glaze BUT I have yet to get a gold finish. I love the Car paint approach as well and will definitely try that out. Many thanks to Rocky for the inspiration.

Great lecture. Too bad the camera never shows the details. Be careful with gold. It's a heavy metal, like lead. You don't want it inside your body or lungs.
