I caught a conger it had got a whiting in its mouth and my hook in its bottom lip, at the time that whiting was still alive, I now think I know how this happened but at the time I was a bit confused, so here's what I think, the eel swallowed the fish whole could smell my bait and being greedy took that and the hook as well.

Well done on a good session and really early in the morning too. I want to agree that you got the eel that got away from me but yours were bigger! Respectable sizes too. Interesting about that last eel, maybe you inadvertently had a live bait...? Best wishes, Kev

It was pretty heavy taking it back to the water Kev, I think that the whiting might have been looking at my bait when the Conger got them both, either way, it was a better session than what I thought it would be and I'm learning more and more each time. No, I didn't Wayne, I looked for my scales but they were back in the car, I was trying to travel light and picked up the wrong bag. Twas a heavy beast though. All the best Mark.

Hi Mark i would like in your experience i was fishing on Princess pier torquay yesterday and was catching whiting every cast when just before lunchtime had a tremendous battle with what i thought was a Bass after a 30 minute fight was amazed to see a conger 4 to 5ft long with a girth of about 15 inches on a size 2/0 hook could you estimate the weight please mark from newton abbot Great video bye the way thanks

That sounds like a right monster Mark, imagine trying to control it if you'd managed to get it out of the water, I hate the things but it would have been good to see and get a picture of a record breaker.
