Cold Shoeing Roulette

This is Roulette, she another one that's getting on a bit and she can be a crotchety old dear! You will notice I'm cold shoeing her, that's because she hates hot shoeing, get within 5 feet of her with a hot shoe and she's off into the distance!
Filmed with GoPro Hero5 black Camcorder amzn.to/2OrEuTs
PLEASE READ THE FAQ's BEFORE POSTING!!
1: No, it doesn't hurt the horse if it's shod correctly by a qualified registered person.
2: The horse is calm because it has been trained from birth to know there is nothing to fear.
3: The majority of horses these days are worked either under saddle or in harness and on hard man made surfaces, shoes protect the feet from wearing down too much and can add grip via studs in the shoes for competition animals.
4: Feral horses have particularly hard feet and manage them naturally by foraging, if they get sick they recover or die, it’s nature.
5: The average horse needs re-shoeing every 6-8 weeks
6: The bit I am nailing to has no nerves and is made of Keratin, the same as your finger nails and hair. #GaryHuston #Blacksmithing #Farrier #ASMR #Horseshoeing #Fabrication #Ironwork #Hoofcare #welder #repairs #horse #farriery #engineering

i comment on these videos a lot. mostly out of pure awe and curiousity. i was going to ask, this time, if there was ever a horse that was tricky to have stand still but this lovely lady has answered it for me. what i can say is that the change in camera mount is much better than before! and i love that each time you shoe a horse we get to see, and read, the relationship you have with them. no 2 horses are the same after all. cant wait to see what hooves get re-shoe'd next!

I think horses like Roulette need a hoof haircut , well not a full haircut but definitely a trim. I think it would be easier on the farrier.

Honestly Im a little bit appalled by the conditions Gary is working with/in. As a horse owner I would never let my farrier work on a horse like that. They are always clean, cut and ready to go. I would be so ashamed otherwise. Gary really is a saint and a great farrier. They are lucky to have him.
@ubetchya78
@ubetchya78 5 лет назад
Agreed. In over 50+ years of horses I can't remember even once having my farrier show up and have filthy legs and hooves to deal with. Horses caught, brushed, legs well brushed off and hooves picked before the farrier is scheduled to show up...

when shoeing a horse with a big side crack using a bar shoe, does it have to be done as a hot shoeing or can it be done via 'cold shoeing'?
@garyhuston

@@garyhuston what areas do you cover plz and how much would you charge for hot shoeing 1 bar shoe and cold shoe 3 normal shoes, she needs a bar shoe because she has a rather large crack running down the side of her right back hoof that was not sorted out by her previous owner, i bought her in late april this year and was in a very sorry state :( she is barefoot atm
