Electronics. My 2018 DR650 still starts right up on its original battery, though the key is that I have a CTEK charger and keep up with good battery health. The DR/DR-Z are simple bikes without much electronics, so if the motor turns over with correct fueling on the carb, it will probably start right up. Fuel injected bikes need enough juice to run the fuel pump, fuel injectors, and computers in order to start, so even if the motor turns over, the battery still might not have enough juice to run everything else. The key is a GOOD battery charger. A generic Amazon charger may not be up to the task in extreme temps, and you may be better suited with a good quality unit like a CTEK. With a solid battery, the fuel injected bike would likely start up without issue as well.
@@Lumpia_In_Texas if you spend the money on a windshield, then another windshield, then another when you finally find one that works, and then change the seat, adjust the ergonomics, get a bigger gas tank… It becomes barely passable at indicated speeds of
Harbor freight charger. What could go wrong? Next time switch chargers on the bikes and we'll know for sure. That battery sounds like it wasn't even charged.
