Do you like these SHERMAN TANKS ? :)

Yes, but how'd they drive it on the streets without tearing up the road, rubber on the treads?

This, along with the T-34, were the best tanks of WWII. I had the pleasure of seeing these two workhorse together at an armour museum in August.

That versatility and mobility was gave the Sherman a distinct advantage over most medium tanks fielded by the Axis Powers. And when US tankers couldn’t outgun tanks like the Panther and the Tiger, they would outsmart the enemy instead.

People who trash the M4 realy have no idea..... While trashing the early T34s has a reason the M4 when it came out was the best tank out there, and then it was a tank that was cheap, while being good enough to do the job. You don t need the best, just something the is good while being cheap!

Don't forget the standardized parts. The panzer designs were constantly being tinkered with and didn't have nearly as much interchange for parts. If a sherman was taken out of action, almost everything could be salvaged out of it for parts.

The way sherman blows a massive amount of smoke in people's faces looks like an OLD old battle-hardened war vet talking shit to his kids when he's woken up by them like, "oh yeah yeah shut the fuck up I'll get shit done".

To clarify, this is an M4A1 Sherman, not the M4 which had welded hull with sharp angles. They both used the same engine, turret and everything else

The gyro stabilizer that you mentioned could actually hold the gun steady enough to enable the Sherman to shoot accurately while moving at up to 12mph.
@twistedyogert

So they used a clockwork starter, using a spring and gear-train instead of an electric motor to spin the engine for starting. Pretty reliable since there's no battery to potentially die. Don't want to press the starter and have nothing happen in the middle of a war zone.

Sorry... They are cranking the engine over to clear oil from the lower cylinders of the radial engine... just like "hand propping" a radial engine aircraft... 25 cranks per engine revolution... 2 revolutions to bring each cylinder up on compression stroke. if there is excessive oil in the cylinder at start-up you can bend a connecting rod or pop off a cylinder head :-( (Crewchief on another radial engine tank)

Not trying to be that guy, but I think it was Continental that made the nine-cylinder radial in this one. Chrysler did make a radial out of five of their flathead-six engines. There's only one left running in the world and it is a monster.
