What a great deal for a solid knife. A lot more RU-vid channels should review this knife as it is a knife every person can afford and it will get the job done. Thanks Bryan!
Definatly a great knife if your looking for a Mora price and quality but in a more traditional grind. Would be great at food prep as well as camp chores. Never had a Cold Steel knife that wasn't razor sharp out of the box. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
I'm not one that says you should put Koma up. But I have seen him in the zone to possibly be hit by a bad throw a few times over the years. Dogs are a great companion for sure. Love your content sir.
Been using a Pendleton Lite in my EDC rotation for the past decade or so and for the price point I have no complaints. The nylon sheath is definitely more comfortable for pocket carry and despite the fact that it's got a substantial handle it fits great in a front pocket and naturally rests in an easily accessible position.
Great knife. I bought several years ago. I had to add a 90 degree spine. Then I learned that edge retention was an issue. For a camp knife it is great. Bushcraft or cardboard cutter? - Nope. I just pulled one out. What a comfortable little knife! Thanks for revisiting!!
I have the Pendleton Lite and the Mini. They're great for light work and urban edc, but I go back to my Condors (Hudson Bay, Kephart and both Bushlores) for real work.
I bought one, and it came dull, and I've never been able to get a good edge on it. Great looking knife tho, and I like the way it's made, a shame I cannot use it. I got mine around 8 or 10 years ago maybe.
further proof that a well made knife does not need to have full tang to perform well, and not having that type of construction actually has its benefits. Between the weight ,comfort of handle, ease of maintenance, and price make this thing a winner. I defy anyone to make this knife fail under normal use. I don't pay big money for 0.4116 steel, but at this price, its a fine material, and its gonna be quite stainless and very easy to sharpen, making this an ideal first knife for youngsters. I just love Cold Steel, and as long as they can continue to produce the knives that are true to the line while Lynn was in charge, Ill keep buying them!
Get a Pendleton hunter lite, Mora companion, SAK with a saw, a functional cheaper Leatherman, like the bolster. A Cold Steel Bushman, Cold Steel machete of some sort as well their Spetz Naz shovel. And a Silky folding saw. Toss in an SRK, and a Mora 511. You would be golden with some sort of axe! 350 or less. God bless you and great video!!!
I've been very impressed by all the Taiwan and US made knives I've bought from cold steel, the chi-comm knives are not as impressive. Thanks for doing the science your method is immaculate! Lol
Nice review! I may have to get one! Kuma/Cuma? He’s out there to learn too lol.. The channel wouldn’t be the same without him on patrol, scouting things out!
Hey Brain, love you show, would like to give you a heads up on a really cool wallmart knife, I don't know the name but both times I purchased one, they were up on the sports counter they are a small fixed blade with a rubber type handle, an a plastic sheath that has a clip run less than 6 bucks. It makes a great edc knife. An as a handy man I use it all day long. It will really surprise for the cost. I love mine, an will make a great demonstration on your high tech rational measure device! P.S. they are all black!
How far does the tang on this go Brian? That is incredible for $14! Usually my knife for this price point is a Mora Robust, but this looks even better! Thanks for showing this to us!
I have my Ozark Trails survival knife and one day I asked hubs to grab me a .99 cent’r so I could cut fiberglas w/it. He bought some blade I couldn’t figure out quickly so I ended up using my OT to cut it one time. Mistake!!! Dulled that sucker faster than….well I can’t think up one. You finish that sentence.
@@CiaofCleburne most knives have a type of steel alloy stamped into the blade. The cheapest knives have steel like "440" or no type just "stainless steel". More expensive knives have a better stronger and harder alloy (at least "440c" or better) that is properly heat treated. Also the blade shape and edge geometry is better. These things make the better knives hold an edge longer.
Check out the Marttiini MFT. (Yes that's how you spell it). Full tang, great fit and finish, made in Finland, nice leather dangler sheath, G10 handles. I paid $30 on Amazon 5 months ago. It's now $44. All the good knives have jumped in price.
It is a perfect, comfortable, small, light, general purpose "camp knife". NOT bushcraft or cardboard knife. It was a "Field and Stream" knife of the year for a reason. However, edge retention is an issue! You must strop on a routine basis. The Mora is the better choice for the steel, bushcraft and Scandi grind if that matters to you.
best budget knife l pick up are the bps knifes bs2fts and bs1fts made in Ukraine got of amazon for around $35 the price are about the same as mora were i live but you get full tang and leather sheath knifes came razer sharp out of the box so far they are great knifes for what you get for the money
I have a number of bps knives, couple bs1fts's, bs2fts, hk1, bs3fts. Good budget blades, but, they have gone up considerably in past year or so. They use to be a great bargain, now they are fair bargain, but still a good knife for sure.
One of my Mentors suggested, multiple decades ago, that you never start with an expensive knife until you determine if you’re one that is prone to lose them. If not, then upgrade. So, I now have multiple antiques. This knife would be a nice starter knife for a young person. I’m not impressed with the sheath though.
I love canoeing, kayaking, boating, I've done marina work and I bought a $30 cellphone for when it inevitably falls overboard. I like cheap knives and sunglasses because I like to keep them in my work bag, day hike bag, travel bag, camping pack, fishing gear, bike saddle bags, etc. Never know when you'll want a second knife or sunglasses! I carry my favorites, but spares are so nice to have!
Baton'ing is very impressive, but a truly worst case scenario use. I'm just happy that this is such a bargain that spares can be stashed almost everywhere.
Sorry to say, many knife companies CS/warranties stink. Over the years,I have had zero feedback from a handful of major brands. On flip side, Kershaw has been the absolute best in this regardless of the price, from budget to their premium models, Spyderco, buck, Benchmade have also been very good.
