Cold Steel HOLD OUT II
Specifications:
Blade Length: 4"
Blade Thickness: 3.5 mm
Overall Length: 9"
Steel: Japanese AUS 8A Stainless
Weight: 4.2 oz
Handle: 5" Long G-10
Pocket Clip: Stainless Pocket / Belt Clip
For many years now Cold Steel has been fascinated with the Black Knife or Skean Dhu (Gaelic) of the ancient Scottish warriors.
Used as a utility or back-up knife and worn under the sleeve, tucked inside a jacket or slipped into the top of a stocking it was thin, flat "pointy" and light as a feather.

At the start of the vid I was not sure about it ... but the more I look at it, I kind of like it.

One of the best parts of this video is the song. Ballad of John Henry, Joe Bonamassa.

i knew wolfbrother would let us know more. lol. love that guy. jmce3 is back 100%. i love the straight handle and blade shape. the more ergos you get the less hands will fit. i like to hold these flatter knives sideways with my thumb on the pivot. a pefect rib slipper. lol

I might try that long pocket clip trick to see how it works. I use it as a back pocket 3rd option blade with cargo shorts. After sanding the space between the pocket clip I have no issue with it. Great Idea I'll let you know how it works if I can get my hands on the longer clip.

This type of knife (fixed blade version) was featured in the mid-season finale of the Starz series Outlander, where some of the men decided that Claire needed a Sgian Dubh (how I've seen it spelled) because, as Jamie put it, "Every man and woman in the world needs to know how to defend themselves, Sassenach." It was explained to Claire as "hidden dagger". I've found the design interesting for quite a while, but that episode re-piqued my interest in it.

@jmce3 Thanks for actually responding back, most of the other ppl on RU-vid I watch don't bother replying to my questions. If I could ask one more where do you find those rings?
@jmce3
@jmce3 12 лет назад
@RedEricTheGr8 hahahah, thanks. I'm just a knife fanatic that likes talking about blades. If you have your mind set on a CS blade I would go with a Medium Voyager or a larg AK47. That blade is a tank with both a wave feature and the tri-ad lock which is as close to a fixed blade as you will get with a folder. If you this is a first knife check out Kershaws line up. This year they came out with some great options. The Tremor is a great option at a low price

Exellent review thx youre the first who shows how the grip in the hand is. Very good. Do you think it is possible to make it not been able to be open handed cause of restrictions here? Tighten the axisscrew, unscrew the pin, etc.. so it not even able to be flicked open out of the wrist.

@RedEricTheGr8 Thanks, Yes I do all my own paracord stuff. Does not take long to learn, but I'm not the best teacher. Check my Playlist for Great paracord making channels. Big John Fitzen gets the credit for the design. I just use old biker rings for mine. The whole is bigger than a bead so its easier for large Lanyards or Bracelets.. Ck my "EVERYTHING PARACORD" VIDEO for some of my other stuff.

@RedEricTheGr8 hahahah, Oh yeah silver has gone up over the last year. But ya know ya can go for another metal and it will cost less. I have some old brass and stainless steel stuff that cost about 4-5 bucks. And you can find cool beads at places like "Lighthouse" I have some cool stuff from them and cheap paracord.

@PavlovSandor No joke because I knew..nothing about the Sgian dhu hahaha. Good to hear from ya Sir Pav. I'm back logged on reviews but I'll get em out. Can't wait to see your next vid. Right now I'm having to much fun watching everyones Shot Show Vids. Its comedy-Drama-Sci-Fi all in one.

Got myself a Hold Out II last week, to accompany the Hold Out III I already have. The III's pocket-clip was stiff (due to it's shortness?), frequently needing both hands to get it into and out of my pocket! The longer clip on the II was perfect on both knives though, so I've requested a second, long clip from Cold Steel. Let's see if their customer services pulls through on it. I am extremely satisfied with both knives though. Light, sharp, versatile for my EDC needs & quick to deploy:

@jmce3 Alright thanks man. Yeah I have the kershaw blur satin plain edge assisted in red and it is a really nice knife. It's the most expensive knife I've had so far. And kershaw has really good customer service, I took that blur apart and dropped one of the washers and couldn't find it, I emailed them that afternoon and by the next afternoon they were mailing me another set of washers I was impressed. Since the ak comes waved does that make it less likely to develop blade play? I saw that cutl

@wolfbrother2501 Wolf, You just gave old JMCE one hell of a history lesson. Thanks Wish I had that info when I was doing the vid. hahaha but then It would have been a half hour long. Because I would have talked on it.

@jmce3 Thanks for actually being involved in the comments with your subs! Yeah I'll definitely try to find some non-silver rings and give it a try. Any suggestions for a cold steel folder I'd like to get my first, middle of the road knife

Nice review. Do you make your own paracord bracelets? Cuz that skull with the indian headdress is sweet. If you have already answered this I'm sorry and maybe you could tell me what video, I can't see all of your videos lined up on my ipod.
