Cold Steel Nodachi | Warrior Series. *Meats utilized in this video was carefully preserved and donated to the Ventura County Rescue Mission. Link: www.coldsteel....
I don't understand why people get so bent over his form or if he's out of breath. That isn't the point of the video. I could of sworn this was a video showing off what the sword can take and do. Not *If the big guy can fight or use the sword correctly*. Keep doing what you're doing Cold Steel! I like your videos and the main guy is awesome.
@@liquiterge skill means nothing, form means nothing, fitness means nothing, a sword in the hands of an expert is no different from a sword in the hands of a first-time sword holder. got it, thank you for clearing that up for me
@@blitzzace he literally didn’t say any of that the video is just showing off the swords not his technique if anything him not being an expert helps because of his technique is so shit but he can still do all that it’s a testament to how good the sword is….. which once again is the whole point they sell swords not techniques
The proportions between the blade and tsuka (handle) would suggest that this is actually a nagamaki, as it’s around 50/50, a nodachi or odachi, if you prefer, has a blade that covers about 2/3 of the overall length.
Actually, that is a Nagamaki my friend (a spear/sword hybrid). Nodachi is kinda a larger and longer 2-handed version of katana (usually as long as the user, Japanese standard) & a lot harder to master (its not as simple as swinging it). For example, Sephiroth sword from Final Fantasy 7.
How could i NOT want a Cold Steel Nodachi? Absolutely god damn right!!! Picking one up ASAP!!! seems im about 10 years behind the rest of the folks here but better late than never :D LOVE IT!!!!
The intro to this video reminds me of how a shopkeeper in an RPG would talk..."step right up son, this formidable weapon blends the advantages of polearm and sidearm. The key? The extra-long handle!"
Not every Nodachi is identical. Not every Samurai sword was exactly the same length. If a sword is made for you specifically, it is tailor made for your strength, your height and your weight. There are thicker Samurai swords, thinner.... The same is true of the Nodachi. The only standard about it is the much longer handle and longer blade. Used against men on horseback (the horses specifically).
@@redfaux74 Well nagamaki usually had a blade to hilt ratio of 1;1 but in some cases the hilt could be slightly longer than the blade, or the blade could be slightly longer than the hilt (much like the nagamaki in this video). Must I also note that nodachi/odachi were at least 3 shaku in blade length, which is 35 or maybe 36 inches, whereas the blade here is shorter than that. Sorry dude.
Ehh... nagamaki usually had a blade to hilt ratio of 1;1 but in some cases the hilt could be slightly longer than the blade, or the blade could be slightly longer than the hilt (much like the nagamaki in this video). I really enjoy your Pig cutting videos 💀 very entertaining! I own one of your Dragonfly O-tanto. Your O-tanto is the second sharpest sword I own. Second only to my Nihonto a 223 year old Shimizu Jinnoshin Nobutaka Samurai sword. I plan on buying a Chisa Katana from you very soon! Your Shinken blades are very sharp and extremely tough ! I know a lot of people talk shit about your videos and your swords but I love them both! Keep up the Great work guys! Look forward to seeing new videos in the future.
This is giving me some good idead (or bad ones depending on perspective haha) just purchased a half price AISI 1095 DH maru nodachi from Ryan Sword! When it gets here gonna have to try a couple of these cuts out. You guys make the best cut videos on the web and this is a crazy blade too but you could do with some custom options on your blades but that is my complaint of most production blades. All Im sayin is you would make a killing with good blades like that if you offered more choices and flexibillity in your line-up. Thanks for that insane cut video very over the top as always!
Yeah gonna wear hockey helmet with cage, neck guard, safety glasses under the cage, I find hockey equiptment in general is good protection from blades because they can protect your vital areas from a skate blade slashing you
you know there is a surgical procedure where they put pins in your shins that applies pressure longwise so that your bones "stretch" or are forced to grow a few inches. the chief here might want to try that surgery.
How do you clean and care for these swords? Is there anything special you need to do to keep them from rusting? Do I need to go out and buy a bottle of mineral oil to keep my sword from rusting?
Since Hanwei has discontinued their Odachi, could you fill the gap and make one of your own (this sword is a Nagamaki, and I am the proud owner of one)?
Cold Steel, i know this video is old dont acknowledge the haters! some people just have nothing nice to say. incorrect classification or not, those swords are the real deal! them pig corpses didn't stand a chance! i will definitely purchase in the future.
This is as as savi zenohunter stated a nagamaki not an nodachi or odachi. An nodachi is 1/3 tsuka( handle) not an almost 1/2 like the Nagamaki which is what cold steel has shown! Japanese swords are named based on the blade length and the tsuka.
Orion Barbalate honestly i get what you're saying but how am i supposed to know if ima like it or not, i cant predict it. But tbh i never dislike videos, i feel like its a waste of time
This is a very good sword; I am a proud owner of one. Hanwei has discontinued their Odachi, maybe Cold Steel can step in and fill the gap and make a very long Odachi of their own (this model here is a Nagamaki).
i realize that everyone is busy talking about the guys weight but the big problem is that this is a nagamaki witch means long wrapping its not a nodachi
yup its a nagamaki Japanese: (長巻, literally "long wrapping) the terminology gets lost since the koshirae ( fittings which includes the handle size etc) aren't strictly traditionally fashioned , but nevertheless ive used one of these and they are quality steel my friend ^^
3:05 The horrifying thing about that is that this wound would not be immediately fatal. That pig (or human with a similar wound) would be alive, awake, and fully aware of what had happened. It would probably take days to die of infection.
@@mariaconcepcionrodriguezhe2850 No, it'd be alive til it died from infection. There are no major arteries in that area, it would absolutely not bleed out.
Don't get me wrong I favor sword industry, I m a fan of katana and will buy an emperor series soon though where will people use incredible nodachies? In sword fight? :)
He does realize that if you hit something with ligaments and tendons, muscle tissue etc. you have to cut through that to get to the skull, also if you were trying to kill a zombie, then all of the cuts in the skulls would be insta gibs, so whats the complaint
It hurts to watch those swords be bent that far... I understand the quality demonstration and I thank you for showing us that quality but man it hurts to watch.
Currently I am sitting home with a broken leg from a sparing match. I've been training for better than 25 years. My techniqe was weak and I payed for it. You could tell me that I sucked, and I wouldn't take offence to it. When we chose to train we become eternal students. No one is perfect all of the time as we are always learning.
Did anyone else notice that it doesn't look like there were any bones inside that pig carcass? I mean, a side of ribs shouldn't flop around like a chicken breast.
cold steel isnt the worst but as a weapons collector I only want something that a true historical warrior would have wielded. Thats the point in my opinion; not just for beauty, but also to know that the weapon in my collection was truly an effective killing machine in a bygone era. Though for other collectors who just want various types of blades, who dont mind a machined blade, then cold steel is actually fairly good.
1:13, i realize you make a cut on a very large i assume tatami matts (Assumed because i am not sure what they are made of, and that's not the color I'm used to seeing, so i am not sure), I have experience with katanas, but i only use regular sized tatami matts. What is the off-chance a regular katana could do that 1080 or 1095 CS blade?
you need an Odachi, and they can go up to like 78 inch long, which is pretty immense.. although looking at the weight of the Nodachi you already do, it'd be around 6-7lb. which would definately overtake the 2 handed greatsword as the biggest.
There is only one existing sword bigger than this one (the Nodachi is mainly about 1.9 meters long) and believe it or not this is European. The Zweihander
Generalchaos192 if you look up their sizes on the cold steel website, this is longer than the 2 handed great sword, however it has significantly less mass associated with it, and neither the cold steel nodachi or the 2 handed great sword are 1.9 metres long. A Zweihander is german for 2 handed sword.
Jack Hemsworth I know the Zweihander is German and I didn't realise that these were Cold Steel products (I am not American and I miss details like this) just saying though, lets face it, all Greatswords come in different sizes. The zweihander is defintley two metres long (seeing as though my facts come from a 17th centuary arms manual) and the Nodachi was only a slightly bit smaller. The Cold steel products are still awsome though!! :)
