When I first started playing I thought that decoys would work like in the old 688 attack sub days, but they don't. You want to keep plenty of depth below the keel so that you can dive under the torps then go quiet while their sonar looks for you. Learn how to drive the boat looking behind you so if they do find you and start to track you can get them behind you and drive at flank and jink to create knuckles, deep water creates great knuckles. Fire the noisemaker away from you, about 90 degrees then go quiet (and cross your fingers) finally remember that once a torpedo is out of the tube it has no friends, especially if the wire gets cut, nothing worse than getting hit by one of your own, or worse sunk. Only fire what you need also every shot is a giant "I'm over here!!!" sign to the other boat.
@@stevelyons1962 Those are good points that you made. I practice all of those things in my newer videos. I even have some more advanced techniques for firing torpedoes, moss and noise makers. When I'm getting in range of enemy ships or subs I will change depth frequently so they will have a difficult time getting a fix and a firing solution
Thanks for the video. When you fire a spread of decoys, the very last place you want to be is at the point where the reciprical bearings of any two of them cross.
Yeah I've had that same thought. But it seems once these MOSS decoys are deployed, the enemy ships and submarines are not able to get a reliable fix on the decoy, nor on the Seawolf. It's almost as if these decoys are performing a jamming function similar to radar jamming, but this is sonar jamming. I don't know if it really happens that way with actual submarines, but that's the way it works in this simulation.
David, This was one of the first videos that I uploaded. And I've learned quite a few things about this simulation since then. I think my skills have improved.
I have been looking for a decent Cold War submarine simulation for a while and just came across this video, Red Storm Rising was one of my absolute favourite games on my Commodore 64 (Now showing my age LOL) This looks like there are a lot of similarities to RSR. I like the fact that it's not just a "Let's blow stuff out of the water" game but actually involves some strategy. Gonna have to pick this up I think

Yes I definitely thought my Seawolf was sunk when that second torpedo hit. When I watch the video I see how I was busy narrating when I should have been taking defensive action from those incoming Torpedoes and I should have launched Torpedoes sooner.
I was in the Alfa's six o'clock position and in his baffles so he could not hear me even tho my speed was 15 kts and the seawolf was creating noise. Then, he turned and I drifted out of his baffles. He detected my presence at this point. There was a delay on board the Alfa as they evaluated their passive sonar contact(me) Then they decided to use active sonar and began pinging and they developed a firing solution and fired torpedos at me. I was busy narrating and did not take appropriate defensive action. I should have dived, went to flank speed and and made a hard turn while releasing a noise maker. My focus should have been on torpedo evasion.
Yes sir and i have done that before but was not able to go to flank speed after taking damage to the engine room. My best speed was limited to 5 kts after the torpedo hit.
Great vid. Just reinstalled this and am getting to grips again. What was it that you did wrong, that you were behind him and suddenly he has divine inspiration of some kind and turns snd shoots?

Learn torpedo evasion..... Doing 14kn lol try 35kn and buckle and stear away on noisemakers. I play with dot mod even harder subs and planes. But good job to get in his baffles you just forgot to dogleg yor torpedos
