COLDRAIN “Before I Go” | Aussie Metal Heads Reaction 

its amazing that this is a Japanese rock band with all of their songs written in English. Masato the vocalist has really sick voice, can't get enough of it :)

Honestly, such an underrated band! So much stylistic melodies in their songs that make THEM unique. They've gotta come to Australia 🙌

It's interesting to me that you two mentioned how Masato Hayakawa sounds like Brandon Boyd at points. Brandon Boyd of Incubus and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park are his two biggest vocal inspirations. Though Masato's vocals and deliveries are usually more compared to the latter. "Before I Go" is definitely one of my recent favourites by the band. Coldrain have always been a great band. I honestly feel you guys should react to Coldrain's early material as that's also really good! Other songs I would recommend would be "Fiction", "Final Destination", "Six Feet Under", "Die Tomorrow" and "To Be Alive."

I got first to coldrain also with mayday and I was instantly addicted, and yeah this album is total fire. They deserve more attention from around the world, hope they give a concert in Europe too

Been a Coldrain fan since Vena. Definitely underrated. I found them the same time I found One Ok Rock. Another super talented Japanese band. Though they are a bit more on the pop side now, they are very talented.

dude i love that someone else heard the incubus in some of their vocals and the way they play with certain things in similar ways. they have a live video of this, and the guitarist & drummer both kinda riff or freestyle between songs or when introducing the next song live in SUCH a similar way to incubus when they play live. the ambient tones and experimentation and playfulness really matches up between the two groups.

I discovered these guys cause of your channel and the main thing that I love about this band is that 2002-2008 alternative sound/feel but can also hit modern metal so easily. I personally miss that mentioned era of music.

It's so funny you guys mentioned early Hoobastank vibes because I was rocking to this song earlier and something about it felt SO familiar (in a good way!) and that's literally exactly it. Absolute killer track.

Re your point about the bassist’s vocals - idk about him for sure but if you listen to ONE OK ROCK’s earlier material, it was all before their vocalist Taka could speak English. And yet, as a native English speaker, I had to double check he wasn’t Asian American because the English vocals sounded so good. There’s also some leeway with singing because even a native speaker’s diction changes when they sing (could anyone actually understand Patrick Stump’s singing?). But for non-English speakers, it comes down to whether you build your English skills from reading or listening, where the latter helps fine tune your pronunciation (in the case of a Japanese speaker, they would better avoid speaking/singing English as romanised Japanese). For coldrain, having Masato as a source to imitate re accent etc would definitely help. I’ve learnt 5 languages to varying levels so this is my experience. 😅 Just a thought anyway!

Their newer material is more refined but it has lost a touch of edge, Granted every Coldrain album has a great blend of soft and heavy songs, you guys need to listen to their older stuff I feel your favorite songs of theirs will change a lot. Still a great song overall, was so happy to see them live at Soundwave which what feels like a long time ago, I hope they come back here soon.
