Reading the comments I noticed, White people are offended or called the dancers "dirty". While Black people automatically are proud and recognize the connection to our common ancestry through Africa, displayed in rhythm and dance. To all the ill informed folks who find this offensive, sorry but river dancing and clogging doesn't move us like this does.
+DarthYutsi yes we did!!! Jazz, Hip-Hop, Country, R&B & Classical were invented by backs!!! White people just took them and ran with them, go do your research. America was literally built by blacks.
not sure how one can figure that cause I would think a lot of white people could appreciate this, but admit I have not looked over all the comments, anyway Im white and think its awesome! lol @ clogging, i dont even know what that is but doesnt sound that good
I'm going to be honest, I'm white and go to a school that used to be a more hbcu style school in the stands but core on the field. Now it's straight core and hate it. I just love the groove and the culture that surrounds the more hbcu style bands. I just hope that one day I can go to an hbcu for to experience it 👍
Sounds damn damn good; everyone that has been to a HBCU has a different look about them and how they look at their blackness and appreciation for our heritage and legacies/ excellent film
hountoonz40 I watch 4th video at least once a week. my daughter is on the drum line, majorette dancer, flag line and going out for drum major. This video is awesome to both of us.
I could watch this Marching Band and Majorette dance routine Over and Over they are the BOMB!! Wish i was in that Band.( Go Blue and Gold)😄❤🎆I really don't know the name of the College Marching Band.
My band plays o funk but and I'm in the cymbals line but we don't do it like this I'm hoping to make it apart of ours tho because honestly it's a grove
I’m an old white woman who just recently stumbled on a few videos of HBCU marching bands and I love them. This is one of my favorites because these dancers are amazing. What an awesome display of female power and beauty. The sexist and racist comments came from white people who spend time watching things they don’t like and writing mean things about them - draw your own conclusions. To me the HBCU style is quintessentially American because it takes elements from Western European military and African musical traditions and combines them to make something that transcends the parts. While mainstream white marching bands have clung to the same old stiff slightly manic British Corp style the people they excluded took the standard marching band format as just a starting point from which they could innovate. I don’t know who lead the way or how it happened but the HBCU marching bands created a new language that was loose enough to allow on-going creativity but structured enough to be understandable. I am a grateful fan.
big J78 And you surely missed out on a great thing. The good people, the love, at all the HBCU'S. YOU truly missed out on a great time, a great EDUCATION, and friends for LIFE. IT WAS TRULY A FAMILY AFFAIR. Since you missed out, don't allow your kids to miss out on it
Hey. Take one elective at any black college of your choice and show up at homecoming, and you are one of us big J78! frfr #100 You ain't even gotta graduate.... Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
big J78, in about 1995 I worked with a black woman and realized she was my neighbor. We became good friends and still talk to this day. I told her at one point that I wanted to be black. :D I loved the culture I was exposed to while spending time with her. So she put me on the "10 step program to becoming black." lol Oh my gosh! She took me to a step show at the college, tried to feed me collard greens which I just couldn't accept. ;D She is one of the greatest women I ever met. But yes, while I was watching this video all I could think was "I should have finished my 10 step program." Haha!
Let me tell u something. I've been on RU-vid watching HBCU marching bands consistently for about two months now and I haven't seen anything better than this - P FUNK. I watched every year. This one is probably the oldest. But even 7 years ago they are killing it. The swag is crazy, the girls look and move amazing and the rhythm is the illest. Love this. I'm addicted. Make my funk with P Funk!!!
and exposed to the ULTIMATE HOMECOMING NCCU EAGLE PRIDE AMPLIFIED. I love the fanfare that comes with playing your arch rival (aggies) it's like having 2 homecomings. There is nothing like the tradition of an HBCU much love to all of the schools.
TUSKEGEE TELEVISION NETWORK INC ABSOLUTELY! If there is a time to perform and put on a good show. HBC and black HS's give you what you came to see. Talent!!!
I love HBCU bands!! Just so much heart, soul, and a certain kind of rhythm in what they do. Stuff like this can't be taught or duplicated!! It amazes me how every section in the drumline has their own personality. I played in middle and high school (snare and quints), but it was a traditional band. Would have loved to march like this!
It's called an HBCU Marching band. Don't even say it's not a band just because they are not DCI or just because they don't do classic things. We do things the Black classic way weather you like it or not. If you don't like don't watch it or comment
There is nothing in the world like these southern college bands. After years of sitting thru boring european “classical” music, when i see something like this it make me proud to be american even if half of the country has gone rogue nazi. This is anything but dirty. It is celebration of heritage. More....!.
@@stephaniehuffman71 No, black people are originals while everyone else copies everything we do. I'm not gonna go back and forth with you. But, someone should notify you on that.
AWRITERSESCAPE98 When it comes to popular music then maybe but not when it comes to academics. Any kind of racial pride-whether it’s white pride or black pride-is stupid.
lamarjlp914 I know people don't like that but I agree with you.I dont like how we as black people always try to be fair to others. We don't have to prove anything because we haven't been unfair to anyone in the first place.
Being active duty army typically keeps me away from being at home in the South and able to go to football games and BOTBs. But this year?!?!?! This year right here?!?!! I'm in thair like booty hair!!! \
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DRUM LINES IN THE COUNTRY, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIES BUT "THE REAL DEAL". FOR THE HATERS, WHAT U KNOW ABOUT THAT "BLUE STEEL"? hotoffthepress.co
I just don't understand why more HBCUs don't tour America more often than they do. I'll never forget an HBCU coming down and performing at my SoCal high school. Had the whole auditorium freaking out like they were Beyonce or something! HBCUs would get so much more monetary support and recruitment if they did that. I wonder if any have performed in Hawaii or any other US territory?
Now I want to see a straight up drum line battle between the big white universities and The HBCU ‘s! This will make black colleges better and step up their game!
Somebody should fund a trip and bring a marching band from an HBCU to Africa, let their native Brothers and sisters share in the culture they've helped create and teach us more about OUR history with the drum and why we are the masters of frequency and vibrations ❤🖤💚
Bro!! I play tenor drum!! We learning P funk rn!!! And we got the same color uniforms as y’all.. I go to walker elementary its a performing arts school
432 down votes? I seriously don’t know how anyone can dislike this. Drum cadences in the US came from military cadences, but it was black schools that brought more tribal beats, more rhythm, more soul, to drum cadences. The syncopated stick movements, head movements, the dancing....Anyone who likes any type of music has to appreciate this...and whites secretly wish they had soul and rhythm like this. I’m white, I would know :)
Does anyone actually manufacture band hat straps that actually fit? I'm so OCD watching marching bands 😒, like seriously, is that adjustable buckle really that useless? If so, someone needs to address these marching band apparel manufacturers. That's gotta be a little stifling and overall reduces your performance by at least 5% worrying about these stupid helmet hats. Even core-style bands have to deal with these useless straps.😂 I was a sousaphone player, so I didn't have to deal with that mess😎
love the love ya'll giving,,,and that's how it was bk in da day,, we battled on the field, and after ,both bands hung out,, we'll some times,, bk in the 70's when we went against WSSU it was war,,,but fun,,,,
Damn, I have to start checking out more black marching bands. They got their shyt together, they are on point, hell the music beat has me dancing in my seat. Those cymbals, damn blowing the shyt up. I will be checking the black marching bands out during March Madness for sure.
Who ever said that this drumline is what the movie is based on is a damn lie , check FAMU Drumline out and the movie and there beats come from Famu and no you guys ain't ready for SC State drumline hands down! \
eric givens your wrong drumline is based on this band, they even use the school name and colors lol i don't know about the beats but this is the top hbcu band
