Awesome job! Just make sure to pull your pavers out some next time to prevent them from tearing into the bottom of your liner! We made that mistake one year and got some tears and eventually ended up using a jack to lift the legs one by one and pull them out to where they were not as close. Great video!!!

Joe, we are finally done! Well, the pool is set up and filled, but we still need to finish off with the pea gravel, etc. We just wanted to get that pool going for these super-hot days. I cannot thank you enough for your videos and for answering my questions. We totally followed your plan! Sadly, my Intex sand filter pump seems to be a dud. Turns on but stays in "power save" mode. My brother-in-law spoke to Intex for me and it seems if I call I may be able to get their help in replacing it with a new pump. In the meantime we have the little pump that came with the pool going. I wish I could send you pics so you could see us following the Joe V gospel of Coleman 18x48 swim vista set up! I even sprayed all my parts with the Boeing T9 waterproofing! Anyway! Thanks again. How fantastic!!! Great job! 🙌🏻 we got our 18’ in 2018. It was amazing! We used pavers as well, but I really like the idea of your 20x20 frame!! We took ours down; packed her up, and brought her along with us when we moved to our new house in 2019! I landscaped the entire property and created a beautiful oasis of beautiful garden beds al around the property, while my husband’s pole barn was being built. We FINALLY finished all of our renovation projects and are going to put our pool up! I am keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏼 that the pool is still in good condition. We have clay soil so it’s going to be a bear working with that. My husband wants to do it the lazy way and just put it on top of the lawn, but once I show him this video and remind him about why we invested tillers; a tilt/lift trailer and his big tractor 🤣 he’ll get the idea! Ha! Thank you for this amazing video! I will come back and let you guys know how we did! Am heading to Lowe’s now 😂 Oh! Just one more question. Not sure where this pool is, but am wondering if will be up all year long and if you recommend to take it down during our cold winter months (Michigan/Indiana area)?

New question for you Joe: So we are digging down to get level. My yard has a slope and everything I've read says dig down rather than build-up with dirt or move dirt from one side to the other to level. First question is: Is that ALWAYS the best way to go? Dig out rather than build up? We will essentially have a square pit, framed with wood, that appears deeper on one side than the other. We will likely double stack the wood on that side to keep the dirt in place. The initial plan after digging was to set in pavers, use a weed barrier and then pea gravel for the areas around the pool (once it's filled) and foam boards under the pool (I have 1 inch thick boards cuz that is what was available) Is putting down sand a must? Should we put sand down under the pea gravel? Is that a TRULY necessary step? I thank you in advance for your time and for sharing your expertise.
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
Hi Syd, Yes it's best to always dig down, unless you have a plate compactor if you add soil it will be uneven. Dig down. As far as sand you wont need it if the ground is nearly perfectly level. Just do you best and lay down the foam board. Good luck

Joe - huge eye opener here. I had a landscaper level out our ground when our patio was being installed. I wanted avoid having tons of sand in my back yard, as we too plan on taking this down in the fall. As such, I wanted to protect against rocks from the dirt and laid down rubber tiles, also providing a rubber cushion for my kids feet. Now I'm at a loss. I obviously can't sink pavers into the rubber tiles. Would you recommend I cut around the rubber tiles and put the pavers into the ground and then level? I understand they need to be sunk to make sure the liner isn't sitting on the pavers. Really appreciate your help!
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
Hi. Rubber is a good base for the pool, much more expensive than foam but will last forever. I would place the pavers over the rubber at the correct spacing and placement, then use a razor to cut the rubber and recess the pavers. As you said the pavers must be level with the rubber so you will need to dig each paver into the soil to level. Make sure that you place a level on each block both X and Y direction to ensure level. Then place the level across two blocks at a time to ensure level from block to block. Work clockwise and hit all blocks and you will be fine. Once done you will have a great pool install! Good luck

Yes! As long as you're level and the legs are not on pavers that are higher that the liner you will be fine. Fill it 1/3 of the way then begin to pull out legs. Once the water weight is there at 1/3 you will be able to pull the legs and set. You will have to use some force to pull them. Hi Joe, it's Stacey-I commented today on your update video-i'm just watching this one again bc we're about to start this project today...were those foam boards easy to cut? did you use just a simple razor blade? also-the only location we can put ours where it's relatively flat and doesn't need intense leveling, and which also has the most sunlight (we have a lot of very big trees that shade most of the backyard)-is not exactly ideal and i'm a bit nervous bc half of the pool will be on flat cement pavers(there's a garden that we're removing that has the pavers) and half on the grass....the plan is to pull out the grass and then put an inch of mason sand over the entire foundation....my concern is that the side of the pool that's not on the concrete will slowly sink in lower over time un-leveling the pool and making it a safety hazard...do you think this is ok or not a good idea to put the pool here? does this make sense? lol! would be easier if i could send you a picture of the space...email me if you get a chance: staceyannpiegari@gmail.co. sorry for all of the questions but we've never done this before so i just want to make sure it's safe for my kids and guests!:)

Hi. Aa long as the grass side has been set for a while and not new grass or recently laid sod you will be fine. We usually dont recommend setting the pool on two different type of surfaces but it can be done if your using the foam boards as a foundation. The foam will cut easily with a sharp razor. Make sure you note that the foam board are notched on the ends to allow a seamless install. Look at the edges..

@joev1779 3 года назад
Better to have cut it too big. The pool will expand. Once it is filled you can either carefully cut the edges off or better yet just place rocks or mulch over the excess foam board. You'll never notice it. Also before you do take a black sharpie and trace the edge. If you remove the pool over the winter you can use that sharpie line as a guide to cut the edges off after you remove the liner.

I see a similar question below, but I will ask again. LOL Should your pavers be level with the foam? Is that super important? I saw you said the pavers were level with the sand only. So then the foam is slightly higher? I hear you used the 1/2 inch boards. What if I get 1" boards? If the pavers are level with the ground and the foam boards are slightly higher will that present a problem. Do you lay a tarp over your boards? I was planning to do that. If I lay a tarp should I be careful to fold it back so it's only under the pool? Can a tarp cover the pavers and then the legs on that? Ok. I'll stop now. Thank you for ANY information you can share. I think I have your video memorized. LOL

Great to hear that you found someone! The pavers should be level with the foam. If the foam is slightly highers than the pavers thats okay as the water will compress the foam about 1/4 inch. I do not use a tarp under pools were I install foam boards. I don't think it will hurt but the foam is strong and waterproof so no tarp is needed. Post any other questions if any come up! Good Luck!

Different strokes for different folks. We've been doing this for 18 years. Works for us. Now don't ever try to use sand to level the surface. Level the ground first then use sand as a top.layer.

Do you know if there's a fence that you can put around the top of the pool for safety
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
Hi. I haven't see a fence that surrounds the top of the pool. Most municipalities require a fence around the area where the pool will be set up. This is to prevent children from climbing in unsupervised. Always have a fence around your pool. It only takes a few moments for a tragedy to occur.

I have my pool up and realized one end is about one and a half maybe two inches off should I take it down and start over. All the pavers are level it's just under the pool that's uneven. No more than one and a half to two inches. What do you recommend. If it's okay the way it is I was thinking of taking it down for the winter. Then fixing it in the spring.
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
@@lindarathbun3852 if it's only off level by 1 or 2 inches you will be fine. Just make a note and take some pics you remember next spring which side needs to be lowered. More than 2 inches you would be better off draining now and fixing.

Hi, could you tell me how they installed the skimmer? I am having trouble with mine, not sure how to connect it to the hose.
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
Hi. Connect the hose to one of the two hoses that draw water into the pump. The hose will just push over the plastic tube for the input hose. No need to clamp it. Then you need to install the restrictor cap that came with the skimmer onto the other second input hose. This is done to slow the flow into the second hose to allow more water to flow into the skimmer. There are some good videos on RU-vid about how to install the intex skimmer. Good luck!

Joe, what's the cost to have this done?
@joev1779
@joev1779 4 года назад
John, it would depend on the conditions of the yard. If the ground is level the install would only take 1-2 hours. If the yard needs to be leveled it would depend on how out of level it is. This yard was out of level by about 7 inches over 20 feet. Took us around 6 hours to level using a mini excavator. You can rent one for around $250 for the weekend. If you pay someone to level the ground it would probably cost around $600

We also just installed this pool ourselves, lot of levelling required. Our cost was: $45 for rental of a tool to remove 2" turf/sod 20 feet around, took maybe 20 mins, filled that with approx 4.5 - 5 tons of sand @ $8 per ton at the local quarry, we self loaded with a trailer (several trips, small trailer) we levelled it with a rental of a hand roller (basically a metal drum with a handle that you fill with 300lb of water) that was $10 for the day, after the pool was set up we filled in over a foot around it with 5/8" River rock, again from the local quarry, self loaded in 2 trips with a lot of 5 gallon buckets, total was 2240lbs for $10.50, then went around that with scalloped pound in landscape edging, 3 boxes for $42. All in not bad for doing it ourselves.
