Thanks to Lane and Bruce helping to preserve some great Carnival History. Lane has devoted his retirement to making sure that we never forget the great Carnivals and Circuses!
I wish rules and regulations be more relaxed for carnival providers/ makers, (Aside from safty regulations), and they should be spared any taxes.. for they bring joy to people and cities. :^) Recently we are getting this beliefe that the American government is too harsh on it's people and their businesses. :-)
Thank you Mr Talburt!! I remember all I cared about was driving down old Cookeville highway and seeing the big yellow wheel spinning in the air. King of the Midway. Sure you know the ride I'm referring too. I'll never forget
This is great. Love all the rides. Especially 100 years. Have you guys ever thought about getting the double ferris wheel. I belive it's called sky wheel. That ride would good to have. That ride is very rare. Like to see your comment on that. Keep up the good work
I remember riding the Bill Hames skywheel at the West Texas Fair as a reporter for the Abilene Reporter-News in the early 1960s. I took along a photographer with a 4x5 Speed Graphic camera to take a shot of the Hames midway from the back end, but the swaying seat forced both of us to grab hold of the bar, thus ending in failure. That was a great ride.
First time I watched this and loved it. Brought tears to my eyes thinking this year the Lewis County Fair was cancel and I won't see the Coleman family and all the hard working employees. I'll miss you guys.
I think my dad knows the Colemen Bros. Shows because my dad used to work for All-Star and Astro Amusements over 20 yrs now part of North American Midway Entertainment since 2003.
Thanks, Klaas. I'm working on a RU-vid video based on my recent trip to document Kermis Hoorn and to interview some of the folks responsible for staging it.
I've thought about working as a carnie. In a way it seems like it could be a fun experience and maybe a chance to make some close friends and a chance to get out on the road and see some things. What I don't like is the fact that it is only seasonal work and I would have to save everything that I make to get by on the down time. It makes more sense to me to invest all of that time into a job that has more potential. In six months time I could be half way or more into a full time position with benefits and higher wages and more opportunities to further my career and be much better off financially and have more stability. If you want travel I would go for a full time job like a sales rep or truck driver or something like that. This carnie stuff will just keep you poor.
