Even with the popularity of efficient LED lighting, we believe there is good reason for you to consider the purchase of a Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern. They require no power, so are flexible on when & how they work. They are flexible with what fuel they use, so you can use petrol, coleman fuel & shellite in it. Making it easy to keep going. Note however, that every third tank should be Shellite - this keeps your generators running gear nice and clean.
In this video Jason also explains the best way to attach your mantles, and why we recommend pre-burning your mantles before lighting.
Always be sure to inspect your mantles before lighting to look for any imperfections in your mantle. These can cause flare ups, and usually will result in damage to your lanterns glass.
At Tentworld we know that lighting is one of the most important parts of your camping kit! SO we have HEAPS of choice. See our range here:

I have been using unleaded on mine for well over 300hrs and so far I there hasn't been a clogging problem, yet! I have used coleman fuel and it is a little brighter than unleaded. Very good review.

On 5.7.21, I spent $8 at 2 separate garage sales and scored the Dual 2 lantern for $5 and the 413F 2 burner stove for $3 w fuel funnel and zero rust. Neither were used nearly enough and are now stowed below deck of my restored 1972 Glastron tri-hull bow rider for beach camping on the Mississippi River ❤️😎 thank you for your review 💕

As someone who uses these Coleman lanterns on an occasional basis, it is good to get some pointers from people who obviously use them more often than I do. But here is just some comments from me. First is a bit of a bash on Coleman. The funnel has a filter which is really a nice touch on Coleman's part. My issue is storage of said funnel. There is a plastic storage container for these lanterns (not shown in the video) but there is no place to store the funnel. So it is always going to be stored separately and possibly lost. I'd highly recommend anyone using the funnels to try to keep track of the ziplock bag it comes in. This will help keep dust, pollen, and the like out of the funnel when doing long term storage. But again, I really wish there was a storage option that would include room for the funnel. Keep it all together and simplify storage. Second is the storage bin itself. I wish these were made of metal, but we do live in a plastic age. I get it. So make sure you have given the lantern time to cool before storing it back in the case. One nice touch with the case is that the base has a little bit of room in the inside to put spare mantels and even the directions for the lantern. Put this space to good use. Third, lighting a duel fuel lantern should be easy if everything is working properly. You actually don't need to stick the lighter all the way up to the mantels. A simple bic cigarette lighter lit at the port at the bottom is enough to set the mantels alight. And if you stick the match or wand lighter up inside the lantern, you stand to damage the mantels by accident. Lastly, is I'd never use gasoline with these lanterns for the obvious reason. Stick to white gas (Coleman Fuel). People tend not to run these lanterns empty and gasoline has a very short shelf life. In many cases, 3 -6 months. You try to use old gasoline, and it is just going to gum up the works. White gas has a longer shelf life. But once the can is opened, it is recommended to use it within two years. (Coleman's suggestion.) But some people claim that white gas is usable decades later. Personally, I don't push my luck with this. I'll burn whatever I have off after about 5 years of unopened storage, but it is something to consider if you leave fuel in your lanterns. If you have gone more than a year or two between lantern uses, I'd suggest dumping the fuel still inside and replace with clean fuel. My point though is to date stamp your gas cans for when you purchase them and when you opened them so you can stay on top of your fuel and keep it optimally clean.

Some great comments, and I do agree. At the moment however, getting funnels is the least of our concerns. There are serious discussions about dual fuel being discontinued!
@superdave8248
@superdave8248 Год назад
@@tentworld One other point to make about gasoline usage and why you shouldn't use it with these lanterns. Most gasoline now has ethanol in it. (At least State side this is the case.) Ethanol blended gas isn't even recommended for small engines like lawn mowers and weed eaters because it gums them up. If these smaller engines can't effectively use these products, what makes anybody think they can use gasoline in something like a Coleman lantern? Well, I get it if they do discontinue them. They really are intended as a outdoor use only type of lantern. Which in itself limits its use. And with rechargeable batteries and lights, there is an argument to be made that they are relics of a simpler age. But I don't own one lantern. I own two. both are dual fuel models. My days of hiking and roughing it camping are probably over. But if I have an outdoor gathering in the evening with friends or family I'm bringing out the Coleman lanterns. There is just something about a Coleman lantern that brings people to the table to talk, play cards, or eat. And as for battery operated lanterns, I have a several. I have four made by Rayovac that are actually designed to take a drop or two. But changing out the batteries in all these flashlights and batteries can get quite expensive. Sure there is the candle approach, but you can't even so much as read by candlelight. Candles are a long running light, but they come with their own issues. Fire starting and lack or lumens is among the two most obvious. As for me, as long as I can buy white gas I'm keeping my Colemans.

@@superdave8248 Yes, we agree. Definitely, in our stores even when we've had dual fuel lanterns available - for a long time battery, and rechargeables have outsold them. But, they are still a great light and an excellent choice for many. You are right though, you do need to be careful if using gasoline at all. Definitely Coleman Fuel, or in Australia what is called Shellite is the way to go with them.

I have a duel fuel 295, which uses the #21 mantles. I have a lot of #20 mantles left from another lantern, can I use them, or do I need to buy some #21 mantles?
@tentworld
@tentworld 4 года назад
The general opinion is that you 'could' use these in a pinch and it'd work ok. But really you're better off using the correct mantles and maybe just keeping the others as your last resort backup.

What do you do with the excess fuel if its not all used and is it safe to store in the lantern ? I'm just asking because I would like to purchase this for camping and four wheel driving but I may not always use the entirety of the fuel each evening, and hoping I can still travel with the fuel inside the lantern to the next camp site ?
@tentworld
@tentworld Год назад
You're able to travel with it inside. Just dont leave it in there when storing, especially if its unleaded fuel. It's less of a concern with the Coleman Fuel / Shellite.

With Coleman fuel/Shellite you need to run the tank out about once a year per historical Coleman instructions and refill. These instructions were provided for emergency standby use in the event of a power cut or other emergency when you needed your lantern.
