On today's show @AaronTorres talks Coleman Hawkins STRANGE recruitment. Why aren't more high-profile schools interested in the former Illinois star?!
Adding Hawkins to K-State's current roster will make this a team that could make a deep run in the Tourney. On the other hand, I have heard that K-State is in conversation with Kaluma about possibly returning for another season. There's also a recent decommit from Purdue that is in the picture as well. Both of those guys are natural small forwards, which is what K-State is looking for, for that last scholarship.
Tough spot for Coleman to be in. Problem is Illinois has filled his spot with Tom Ivisic, Morez Johnson, and Carey Booth. I wish he could just come back to Illinois but if he was serious about not wanting to take the spot of who they brought in, it's never going to happen. But, part of me wonders if he would be open to changing his mind
Decision needed to be early to portal cycle and he would’ve had a nice landing spot. After 4 years of college the combine was unlikely to move his nba stock very much. The money demands in the background certainly scared schools off. If Hawkins would’ve decided at season’s end, made Illinois a possibility early, I feel like he could’ve gotten a number of schools after him and negotiated Illinois up or gotten more high level suitors. Unless Hawkins decides early he is taking someone’s spot no matter where he goes not just Illinois. Nobody was waiting behind Hawkins at Illinois, he gave his spot away. Best case for Hawkins is Illinois misses on Riley and goes back to Hawkins as Illinois needs someone else to be a sure ncaa tournament squad. Illinois won’t overpay but I think it will be a decent bag. Hawkins could gain more at Illinois after the initial NIL deal because he has a brand build up at Illinois.
This whole NIL business Is fraught with risk for players and teams. It’s the wild Wild West. Going back to ILL not an option. Team and fans have moved on. What a waste
@@jakobemathias Yeah I know it’s not really an option to comeback but if that miracle did happen it would be the best case for Hawkins. Illinois still needs a starter level player, otherwise, it’s a bubble season. I know it’s not going to happen but if they miss on Riley, I would check on Hawkins if I was on the staff.
@@aaronweeks1347 If he did come back, I'd be concerned about chemistry. You know he'd be coming back not because he wanted to, but because he had no better options. You can't undo what you did. Waited too long. This whole portal business is going to make it a challenge for many teams to be consistent top tier teams. If any of these guys Underwood is bringing in feel slighted, they'll be one and done. Somehow Underwood has to get high school kids that will stay for 2 or 3 years. fine tune the roster with transfers. You can't rebuild every year with a whole new set of players.
@@jakobemathias I know all that. Illinois coming back to Hawkins is the best thing for Hawkins IMO. For Illinois, they need another starter level person or the most likely outcome is a struggle to make the ncaa. I have chemistry concerns outside of Hawkins with the roster as is now. Hawkins has proved to be a good teammate and might help it. Yes, players will be unhappy because they are not playing. Same thing happens if they get a commitment from Will Riley. If it’s just for next year, rather have Hawkins than Riley. If Riley plays two years than rather have Riley. I think Hawkins experience in college basketball will make the locker room better than adding Riley.
Because he really isn’t as good as he and everyone else thinks he is. The way UConn completly abused him from all angles and all sizes I think that opened alot of people eyes
All the big-money NILs were tapped by the time Coleman started selling his goods. You snooze you lose buddy. You're going to have to pimp yourself on Cameo to make a buck....good luck with that!
Who reps the kid!? This is more than a firing level mistake it may be actionable. Of course it could be a mom, dad, uncle, grandfather or cousin giving advice contrary to the agent. If that's the case, Mr. Agent needs to get the word on the street if he ever hopes to rep a big time athlete again.
