Today we have a Coleman stove model 425 Series E For teardown, cleaning, maintenance, and rebuild. Also, the fuel valve is leaking and will need to be addressed. The fuel tank was not only disassembled and cleaned but also powder coated due to the poor state of the paint. The whole fuel valve is disassembled as the packing is also to be replaced. The packing was purchased at oldcolemanparts. This model uses the small valve stem packing

This was great, and I thank you very much. My father started camping up in the Adirondacks in 1955 or so, me in 1967 as a young boy, and I carried on the tradition after his death in 1987. I still use the Coleman stove he bought in 1956 but have never done any work to it. We used to use unleaded gas, but switched to Coleman fuel decades ago. I've never drained the fuel upon storage and never had a problem just pumping it up and lighting it. Always works fine. But it's been a few years, and after 67 years I think it's worthy of a rebuild. Will buy the graphite from Old Coleman Parts (maybe a new pump leather or whatever they use these days) and hope all the other parts are in serviceable condition. Have to find a place that will sand blast/powder coat the tank...

Some people forget to keep their finger on the hole of the pump as they close it. It’s important to do that. Otherwise u loose lots of pressure. The other thing is the --I valve, it must be in the proper position & both burners turned off.

Great video, thanks. The experts at the Coleman Collectors Forum tell me that leaving some fuel in the tank is a good idea, it was rust-preventers in it and being pure naptha will never go bad. I believe them, so that is what I do now. There are a few over there who disagree.

@@retrotechandelectronics I agree. I've had problems with the fuel feed tube assembly for my Coleman Dual Fuel Lanterns. If I fail to empty the font before storage, the fuel feed tubes (which have very small diameter feed tubes) inevitably become restricted over time resulting in very poor lantern performance. And I ONLY use Coleman fuel, I've never used gasoline in them.

@@retrotechandelectronics These bikes are coming over from Tamu/Manipur as grey market products, i.e. not legally imported. This bike I got I had to pay a small fortune to register and make legal. Parts and service are non-existent. Luckily the shop and owner's manuals can be downloaded. I wish these Himalayans we more old school, no EFI and perhaps only electronic ignition. For this country the more primitive the better. I will note that although the engines are superb, the rest of the bike parts are kind of crappy.

Great video! I just repainted my stove because a friend set it on fire and actually burned most of the paint off of the case, lid and wind wings. Started rusting immediately. A PITA, but I masked the latch and rivets to keep its original look. One, question: Why drain the fuel for storage? I was taught that the fuel prevents internal rust and keeps the seals in good condition. I do make sure pressure is relieved before storing.

Then i lower it facing down after it is lit for a minute. Once it starts it runs well. I also bought a new one that uses the old type of fuel, and gas that can be used in a car. Oh, man, you should've sandblasted and painted the case while you were at it. Otherwise, good work, lots of detail.

I have an old Coleman stove that I would like to disassemble and clean up so I have watched at least a dozen videos over the last few days. Without a doubt, this is the most informative "how to" video I have found. Thanks for being so thorough & clear in explaining the parts, clean up & repair process, and proper storage.

@@retrotechandelectronics Yes, I agree. I had one tech who really wasn't clean and I screwed up the fuel tank, then another guy make it more clear. This guy is very clear and explain things well.

They are not too hard to work on…. Take pictures of disassembly but not complicated…. Fixed mine it took two weeks for fuel tube to get here but it has not given me problems in over two years

I have one that is over 50 years old and has never been maintained, and after hurricane Ida I brought it out and it burned great one gasoline. I used the same stove for 5 months on the road in 1999. One of the most elegant engineering designs I have ever seen!
