Nah, David is sound. Taking a punch to the stomach whilst breathing out hurts far, far less than getting caught on an in-breath. One of the first things they teach you in a boxing gym. Asking him a question was a good way to ensure he wasn't breathing in during impact. Haye was doing him a favour.
It was a dick move. He relaxed when he was speaking and the punched was aimed right where your air gets knocked out. If you wanted to be nice about it, let them brace and aim for mid abs. Specially when the guy is twice his size
