Kaep should have stood all along, kneeling only brought unwanted attention. I don't pledge allegiance to any flag but i will stand to show respect when the National Anthem is played...
@bomberbcm
@bomberbcm 7 лет назад
Completely disagree I felt there was no disrespect for not standing for the flag. If NFL cared about the military then they'd stop taking money from the government for flying the flag in the first place. However I am disappointed in Kap. Figures like Ali stood by their believed even if it hurt their career, that takes courage. It seems phony that he now decides to change when his contract is done.

milo357 Not saying politically who is right or wrong, but your argument is just fundamentally a weak one. The unfortunate reality with political messages and the use of political expression to make change is that the change that stems from that action takes time. Even in sovereigns more prone to progressive movements such as the United States, change inevitably takes time. To illustrate, Rosa Parks decided to take her famous stand on a racially segregated bus in 1955. The Civil Rights Act wasn't passed until 1963, which meant that the ruling in the landmark Supreme Court Case of Brown v. Board was not properly nor comprehensively enforced until years after Brown v. Board II; a decision that was made in 1955. To reinforce: As the nature of change and justice would have it, both take time. Of course, the amount of time the change takes is determined by a number of factors, not the least of which is that we live in a very complex pluralistic society. One thing that is known, as famously stated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is that time tends to lend itself to justice (something like that). Basically, over time societies become more and more just and they rarely take steps backwards. Unfortunately, this natural phenomenon that King observed (change occurring overtime in the favor of justice) can be very difficult to trace back to some perfect explanatory causal factor or even a more general, but no less accurate, causal mechanism. This is because change and the actual inducement of change or actuation of others that may or may not result from such action that progresses societal justices in some way is unpredictable and frustratingly so. So, how does this all relate to your point that the aforementioned action by one Mr. Kaepernik "changed nothing". 1) As mentioned above we never know how long change will take and 2) even when change does occur, even if the change is related to the original action, it is nearly impossible to trace that change back to a causal factor, even though it may be human nature to search for one. Nevertheless, it would be both foolish and short-sighted, for separate reasons, to make an argument that change hasn't occurred yet, therefore "starting a conversation" in the first place is pointless. Alluding to the points made above, it is foolish because even if it were to make a difference and that desired difference occurred years down the road, we would be hard-pressed to identify, in any meaningful way, for one way or another that Kaeperniks' comments played any causal role. It is short-sighted because change does indeed take time. It is an argument of ignorance to say that because change has not occurred as result of Kaeperniks' actions when we are but a year removed from those actions, therefore no change will ever result from Kaepernikis action. That ended up being much longer than originally planned, and no one will probably ever read it...

Matthew Fudge: He had a choice and it was a better one. He would have done better with his celebrity status if he used his influence with kids in depressed neighborhoods and encouraged them to stay in school, learn, stay out of trouble, overcome obstacles, dump the self pity, make something of themselves and think things through before acting. If he had done that he would still be a "hero" and earned a sustainable praise. Instead he showed them a hypocritical fool who did the wrong thing and had to turn his tail on his "principles". He will be praised by some for turning tail. He fell into the trend of the time which was flag burning and trashing America. He just wanted to take part in it. It was all show. The camera was there and it was fun. He has no principle. Smarter people know enough not to bite the hand that feeds.

In pro sports, you have to bring your politics to work because they play the National Anthem before the games. By default, you are forced to bring your politics to work with you. Colin doesn't stand and play the national anthem before he goes on this show, so he is exempt from bringing politics to work. Others don't have a choice.Think about what you say before you say it Colin.

Loantastic - Simple as this. It is Voluntarily done. No one forces you to put a flag outside your home. You do it because you have. the right to and want to. In terms of appearances, states that your patriotic, and proud to be an American. Now to my point on "Pro Sports"; Do you want to address why the National Anthem is political? We have players that are International and come from a variety of other areas, It is a choice to stand for the flag, We all have that right afforded to us. If you play pro sports, the national anthem is forced on everyone in attendance. It has nothing to do with the game played and it is a financial ploy to show pride. No one should have to stand if they dont want to.

I could be wrong ,but I believe the whole thing was blown out of proportion from the get-go. If the NFL players in the past stayed inside until the anthem was over, why did they change that? Was that a political move? I'm not defending or condemning Colin Kaepernick for what he started, it just seems to me that a lot of people have forgotten that the players haven't always been on the field in the presence of the fans. There's always a re-action to every action as well as a reason.....I'm just saying!

C. Kaepernick showed courage. He knew the kneel would take away endorsements and marketing opportunities for going against the grain. He donated 1 Million Dollars of his salary to OAK foundations along with his time off camera to bring about Police Reform. BUF fans have him in crosshairs, NYG/NYJ ticket-holders are anthem loving cops/firemen etc. so he won't make it to the Empire State as a Free Agent. Unlike TB WR M. Athletes have a great platform, and many of them don't take advantage of it. Saying Kap doesn't have courage is ridiculous. He knew what kind of backlash he would receive (racism, death threats, etc). He has donated over 1 million dollars. Putting money where is mouth is. Just because he isn't kneeling anymore, doesn't mean he thinks everything is great. He specifically said, he wants to get the conversation started about inequality in America. If you don't think he has done that, google Kaepernick protests. People are talking about it. The media, fans, other athletes. This has been a story since last August.

Pretending Tebows Christian kneeling (a white person showing support for the religion of the majority of the country) is the same as a minority showing solidarity. Why only 5 instances of injustice? Why not 10? Or 20? In your mind, what number have you deemed it appropriate before someone has the right to voice their opinion about injustice? And just so we're clear, if it doesn't happen to me directly, then I also have no right to speak up. Am I hearing you right? So how dare those people speak up for my mother who also had to give up her seat to White people on the bus. And who could not sit at the counter and order a cup of coffee at Woolworth's. So in your opinion, she had to wait the prerequisite 5 times before she felt bothered. And she had to complain on her own unless other people could prove that they had also experienced legalized injustice no less than 5 times. Then and only then could others have spoken up on her behalf. I'll wait.

+Cj James says "Stop living in the past, take advantage of the opportunities you have today." That's the same exact line White people used in the 1950' & 60's when my mother had to regularly give up her seat to them on the bus. And they continue to use it today. According to people like you, we should always keep our heads down and be quiet. We should be happy for what White America has "given" us. So what you get shot in the backs on video by White cops that remain free to do it again. In 2016. So what I get followed around every department store and can't shop in peace while I'm outnumbered by White patrons in that very same store by about 10:1. In 2017. And I'm not going to list each and every example endured by my wife, my son, my family and friends. I would need about 3 straight days of uninterrupted typing to accomplish that feat. Besides, why should I go through all that trouble? According to people like you, that would be "living in the past".

I at first liked how Kaepernick at least made people look more into the whole police brutality situation there is and make people either pick a side or at learn that there's more going on than we realized in that department. However, ever since his whole Castro shirt situation, the public acknowledgement of not voting, and this now, I think it's safe to say that Kaepernick has not lived up to his end of the bargain when it came to backing up his protest when it actually started costing him personally unlike the great protestors of MLK, Gandhi, and Chavez. Kaepernick definitely has disappointed me and I'm sure thousands of other people today with this acknowledgment while being a free agent now.

I love how he is against Kolin Kaepernick's stance but yet at 3:43 this fool says Rosa Parks protested and that "we" protested America. LOL. He actually has the audacity to include himself into the collective. So 62 years ago, nine years before he was born, Cowlin Cowherd stood side by side with Black people in MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA in support of a lady who didn't feel she should have to give up her seat to a White person. He's saying that he was included in the "we" that faced death at the hands of firearms, dynamite, nooses, and police dogs. But in 2016, he took issue with someone not kneeling for a national anthem that's supposed to represent all Americans but didn't even represent the Black troops who fought in WWII. You know, those same Black troops who had to give up their seats on a train to German POW's. You know, that same national anthem that originally included a verse about subjugating Black people as slaves. You know, in the same America that Black people are being shot to death in the back over a broken tail light by White police officers. On video. And those very police officers remain free. But in 1955, he was part of the "we". So I wonder why he is so proud of the fact that he stood by Rosa Parks, but now he belittles Kaepernick? Man if this dude isn't typical of White America, I don't know who is. We've been hearing the same line from people like him for over fifty years. You know, the line that goes, "Well everything's equal now, so I don't know what they're complaining about." He just doesn't get it because he doesn't have to get it. And people like him is the reason people who are oppressed should not, and will not ever stop fighting for what is right.

milo357 a traitor is a person who joins the enemy to fight his own people. my people are the people of earth who committed themselves to reason and to God. to pledge myself to an imperial faction like the so-called united states would mean that I abandoned those people in favor of somthing to my own personal gain. that would make me a traitor.

Still people aren't actually talking about the real issues because they'd rather have the more fun poking fun at a guy than face reality. So I think that his protest worked for some... others not so much. They'd rather push that discomfort with the truth way down and focus on stuff they can handle (aka moaning about stuff that doesn't actually matter). Missed opportunity.

Kap did what he did to bring awareness and he did that and furthermore he's put his money where his mouth is outside of football and is taking steps to do what he set out to do he's also encouraged others to follow I already knew he wasn't gonna stand next year before this it's funny how ppl call him a sellout when he opted to become a free agent his release from wasn't circumstancial the team didn't cut him for kneeling and now that he needs a check he's backing out he did what he wanted to do it's no secret almost every NFL team was against him kneeling so of course he's gonna stand he wants to play football gotta do what you gotta do to play

Only Colin I disagree with on this topic is Cowherd. Kap's actions were courageous either way. He may not have been the starter initially, but he also had endorsements at stake. The 49ers could've cut him if they truly didn't want him on the roster. You can't call a man a sellout who's still active in his community and making donations to organizations in oppressed cities like Chicago, IL. His goal was to spread awareness that oppression exists in America. He did just that and the biggest athletes, entertainers, and even politicians chimed in. What else do you want from him?
@DaKidGowie
@DaKidGowie 7 лет назад
Not the same. Rosa Parks wasn't giving back to the community, she just took a courageous stand. Kap is putting money behind what he kneeled for.
@THEV0ICELESS
@THEV0ICELESS 7 лет назад
Da Kid Gowie He didn't stand for the anthem to get attention, the 49ers have him signed to a guaranteed contract where he gets paid regardless, and he sold out when he needed a job. what is courageous in any of that?
@DaKidGowie
@DaKidGowie 7 лет назад
He didn't stand to get attention. He silently sat down during, camera spotted him, and it became a huge ordeal. It's not like he was jumping around saying "look at me." He just sat quietly. He didn't NEED a job. He opted out of his own contract. If he wanted the guaranteed money, he could've easily remained a 49er. He's courageous because it took him quietly sitting down to bring awareness to those living in oppressed areas. He's since donated $400K to charities in those areas and even the president at the time gave an input on the situation. He risked all his endorsements and could've been cut at any time during this protest. He could've been blackballed out of the league. His teammates could've turned on him. Anything could've happened. That's why it's courageous.

Dude was bored and drank the BLM and liberal media Kool-Aid and now that he needs to get paid, he's not bored anymore. That's it. Kap was never deep into black social issues, never had a plan, never even registered to vote in his life. Not saying people can't grow but he sure hasn't. BTW, BLM is alternative facts. "Hands up, don't shoot" is alternative facts. You want to fix things, start with real facts.

I am not backing Kaepernick, not degrading him, but he is an NFL QB who led a team to the superbowl, while Colin Cowherd is just some blowhard with an opinion who never even played the sport at the level he seems to think he is such an expert in. Maybe he should do something before he mouths off about it.

Is S what meaningful change did he bring?
@calibrazxr750
@calibrazxr750 7 лет назад
It is not about whether or not he brought about any change, it is that he tried to bring attention to something in the hope it would ultimately augment change at some point. If you never try to do something, you will achieve nothing, if he achieves nothing, it won't be through lack of trying. He simply stood up (not literally of course), for something he believed in, when was the last time you did that.

calibrazxr750 I do that every waking moment of my life, and what he brought attention to was already front in center in the national spotlight. He only seemed to make himself seem arrogant and ignorant. I know his platforms of protest where limited, but this man has always been about himself, just look at his IG a man so desperate to show off will leach to what ever makes him relevant in the hopes that he catches people as naïve as you to jump on his cause.

calibrazxr750 but what is he fighting. To stop racism? The government can't do anything about stopping people from being racist. There aren't any laws that are pro racism and there isn't institutional racism. He's just thinking he's fighting for something that everyone knows is bad already
