Had the pleasure of seeing ( Pinetree) on the 63-64 Tour of the UK. My Late Father took me down to Cardiff for the game Wales vs New Zealand. I was a very young boy. I remember when the team's ran out, my Father said to me " There's Colin Meads see the size of him." I just couldn't believe it, the whole of The New Zealand side were big but Colin Meads was huge! This was my first introduction to International Rugby. I have never forgot some of the ABs Waka Nathan, Kelvin Tremain,Brian Lochore, to name but a few. The Captain of the ABs that day was the Great Sir Wilson Whineray. Also, i saw The Haka for the first time, and ive Respected ever since. Would you believe im Welsh through and through. God bless you Sir Colin Meads. Also Sir Wilson Whineray.
colyn that would the match at Cardiff where Clive Rowlands had to be stretchered off after a thump from Meads . An isolated incident ? Unfortunately no - there were many more to come from this rouge elephant of a man !
The late Sir Colin 'Pinetree' Meads one of the true legends of AB and world rugby. AB 1957-1971, 55 tests and 132 games in total for NZ. Not the biggest or tallest lock to play for the ABs or even the best lineout leaper but his overall game was rarely matched by his fellow team mates or opponents.
Thanks John for this video! I have selected "Pinetree" in my Childhood Heroes Team, when growing up in the 50's and 60's...I have posted 17 videos. Colin Meads, the greatest All - Black of all time, a legend and a gentleman. He visited my school in 1970, when he toured South Africa with Brian Lochore's All - Blacks, Garry, from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Hi Mel, Garry from South Africa. Colin scored that try under the posts against my home team Border. He signed my rugby book when he visited my school in 1970. I have selected Colin as a flank forward in my Childhood Heroes Team, when growing up in the 50's and 60's. I posted 17 videos. Please feel free to share with all Kiwi rugby followers.
