At approximately minute 20 you are talking about the joy of just organizing your supplies & I find I feel happy to look at my tools too. Just like as a little girl when you get your new school supplies and the smell of crayons, paper and wanting to use them soon. This was my 1st video I have watched of yours. I am truly at ease and inspired by your gentle nature and encouragement. I needed this so much. So many ideas to try, thanks so much!
Thank you so much, Melissa!! I am glad we've connected. You happen to come by just when I was taking a bit of a hiatus but I know there will be plenty of creative journeys to share!
I'm new to the world of collage and new to your channel. First of all, I thank you for sharing your experiences. Second, you're giving me the courage to introducing cutting, gluing, painting, and drawing into my many journals. I have more than enough supplies. . . now to use them for expressing my self. However, I need to stop my inner critic. With your gentle musings, I am beginning. Again thank you.
Suze, nothing makes me happier than hearing that you've found your courage! Here's to your beginning. I know you can do it! (And as for that inner critic, just treat him/her like a dog barking outside. Annoying yes, but not enough to stop you!)
You are a bright star. Very informative and your enthusiasm along with all those DIY smiles made you a joy to behold and reenforce why i now continue to cut and paste, long before c&p was relevant. Many thanks.
This was such a wonderful down to earth video! I feel like I can ease myself into it and enjoy finding my favourite things and my own style rather than an art graduate showing off and looking so unattainable! Thank you so much! x
Demi-Rose, thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I so deeply believe that all the arts belong to all of us - and your message lets me know that I'm passing that message along. I hope you ease into it and enjoy!!
So many jumping off points here! Thank you so much for sharing all of this - it's very inspiring !!! "Power in the ritual" - that really did speak to my heart! I feel like I've had a glimmering of what your art school journey was like... Plus - I love your rings :D
***** Thanks so much! I hope you take those jumping off points and leap! :) I'm so glad that I could share this all with you. And hehe, thank you about the rings. I've got a thing for rings :)
Thank you for nice, non nipping, non- sarcastic journal instructions! Dislike the videos driven to irony or mockery, this is a no nonsense but fun video.....love it💕
This was the first one of your videos that I watched. I absolutely loved it! Guess I'll have to subscribe and then go back to check out your previous postings. Thank you!
Excellent Jamie! I loved this video and it was so very helpful and fascinating. I can't believe the music that showed up in class. I kind of got chills when you started reading the lyrics. Such a great online tutorial from the Queen of Collage!
Suzie the Foodie Thank you so much! And isn't that amazing about the music? It was especially wild because every other piece was hymns - all of it! I figure this was a blessing from mom about art school :)
Jamie Ridler Studios Jamie... I mean YOU are lovely! So loving, positive , and gentle! I just want to bask in your presence!! There is a glow of inner beauty about you. Your art is great, too! Lol
Hello Jamie, I really like the way you framed the little red and blue image on the wall in the white frame. How did you do that exactly? It looks nice & a good idea :)
I use a glue runner ... I swear by them the only time I use stick glue is when I'm putting down something small ... Glue Runners are great they are permanent and mess free. No washing your hands after
They are such a joy to work with. My favourite thing about them is no bubbling or warping!! One challenge is that once you put something down... it's down! Though they do have ones with repositioning glue. I haven't tried that yet, have you?
Thanks a lot for this. Quick question, should one be using the matte adhesive in conjunction with the glue stick on a project, or is it just that either of the 2 is a sufficient tool?
I'd be curious what inspired the question. What kind of result are you going for? If you don't know yet, that's totally cool. I agree with @nuvoclassic that the key is to experiment. Some people LOVE working exclusively with a matte medium. Others never touch it. I've sometimes done glue stick to test if I want to put something in a certain place and then gone in with matte medium once I've decided. I hope that helps!
such great info! I am fairly new to collage and am loving the process. What I wonder, when artists are producing pieces that they intend to sell, how do you get around the copyright issue of images having been taken by someone else?
This is absolutely a concern. If you are going to sell your work, you must use images that are copyright free (which is why you see so many vintage-y artworks) or what you use must be so changed that it is not recognizable as the original piece. I hope that helps.
What about making sure things are archival??? It's not fun to see your work fade, change colors, or pull apart in time. What's your knowledge on this? Would really appreciate the help. Thank you.
Hi Brad. Thanks for watching! I just went through the video again to see if I could figure out what you are referring too but I'm afraid I couldn't find reference to bird templates. Sorry I can't help you out with that one!
Hi there. It's a song I purchased from Audio Jungle. By the way, my mom's name was Inta! I have never encountered anyone else with that lovely name. Thanks for stopping by!
To fix the issue of a ruler getting cut into: use the transparent ruler to find your line, score it with a bone folder to mark the line and line up your metal ruler to where you want to cut without ruining your acrylic ruler.
Jamie Ridler Studios And thank you for making such a supportive, informative and inspiring video. You have a beautiful spirit and I really felt seen when I heard your encouraging words and your story with taking a class. Thanks so much!
That's the first time anyone's mentioned it, Paulette. They are so much a part of me that I don't even think about them. That's unfortunate they were a distraction to you.
