I didn’t discover this podcast until episode 35. Absolutely loving it. I’m now catching up with the earlier episodes, what a great start to my day. I’m hoping to hear more about 90’s cars as they seem to be flavour of the moment right now for all the nostalgia loving enthusiasts.
@chriscooper you mentioned the power boat you hear off of Falmouth bay, it’s owned/run by us at Eastwood Racing (part of Eastwood Garage) in Penryn. It’s now sold on but we have a new boat, a Fountain 42 twin engine, much more like the outer limits you mentioned. You’re more than welcome to come and visit us anytime you’re down this way next and have a close up look at it 👍🏻
That Vulcan simulator is in my home town of Stockport in South Manchester. Near there is also the Avro Heriatage Museum in Woodford where the Vulcans were built and XM603 is on display outside!
that machines to pilot bit may have been the most delightful and wholesome segment in the history of the pod. the friendship, positivity...it was just great. cheers guys and merry christmas!
Chaps. Thankyou. It’s been a ‘challenging’ year for me and this podcast has always put a smile on my face. So from me to you all, a very simple thankyou.
From weird intro with funny looking font to tight edited blurbs on the topics, but cleverly executed too not give anything away. You guys are getting better and better without losing your core ideals and thoughts.
A very Happy Christmas to all fellow car enthusiasts and addicts around this blue planet of ours. Been with you chaps since the very first episode and it's one of the happiest times of the entire week to listen in to "old friends" . Thank you so very much. Wishing a wonderful 2024 to all.
This has kept me entertained from week 1 and trying to decide on a name. Watching the show and yourselves grow has been great, and definitely something I look forward to. Best wishes to you all and lets do it all again in '24. After all we need to know from Manish how the long term ownership (🤞🏻) is going.
Fantastic ep. As always! And to anyone who hasn’t read (or listened) to Chris’ new book, it’s well worth it. Beautifully written as you would expect, and full of some incredible stories. Merry Christmas all 🎅
Thanks guys for a tremendous year of this podcast - my weekly dose of proper addict car chatter! Natural humour and chemistry amongst the five of you plus just good quality interaction - the personalities bring good balance. I look forward to this continuing into 2024 - and good shoutout to Valentino Rossi #46 A big thanks again to you all!
Happy Christmas to all you petrol-heads and fellow motoring nuts. To Mr Harris and co, thank you for 46 episodes of pure unadulterated joy and laughter. This has been my light, whilst navigating some dark times. My sincerest thanks.
Thank you chaps for what has genuinely been one of the brightest twinkles of this year. Concorde Story for you. My Dad for his sins was a golfist, and when not beating the living snot out of a bitter little white dimpled pill, would retire to the bar and armed with a large single malt would settle down and play Bridge with a group of The members, one of whom was a chap called Brian, who would resoundingly thrash the living Daylights out of my dad not only on the course but at the card table,in his day job he worked at Filton for the aircraft company, growing up in the sixties as I did, a young boys head was turned by fast jets and the prospect of the Concorde being built less than 5 miles from where we lived fired up the imagination greatly, for those of you old enough to remember (not you Chris)cast you minds back to 1969,it's spring early April and I'm heading towards my seventh birthday,Sunday morning arrives and dad says come on we're of to see a man about a dog ! So in the car we get and off down the road towards Bristol dad at the wheel me in the front for once, special treat. What's this dog like I ask ,there's no dog dad replied going on to explain that it's a saying used to describe going to do something which you don't wish to elude to others what your actually up to ,greatly disappointed by there being no dog in the offing,I then start to question what we are out and about for ,all I get is wait and see . We drive up the A38 to Filton past the end of the runway to the top of the hill and turn righ,t into the aircraft company main entrance with barriers and a gate house containing the works policemen dad gets out goes over to the gate and comes back with one of the officers, jump in the back boy and he and the officer get in and we are escorted through the works village offices with front gardens and gates ,down the hill and across the railway line and runway to the hangar which as a nearly 7year old was the biggest building that I'd ever seen ,and was scary as anything,in through the metal slide door ,and there in front of us is the big white dart wait here will you please whilst I let Captain Trubshaw know you've arrived ,over comes this chap in white overalls, dad shakes his hand and says to me say hello to Brian who's letting us have a look around his new plane !. I will never forget spending the morning being shown around, just wish I had been older and able to understand it better at the time, A week or so later dad and I went to the golf club at Filton and parked up at the edge of the practice ground in the shadow of the radar dish a watched as Concorde 002 left for her maiden flight,a wondrous sight that will never leave me, sitting on the roof of the car to get a better look, dad made me take my shoes off to save his precious paintwork. I lost him within a year of this but Concorde and his fondness for his cars will always remain with me,to this day like him I've always got a tin of boiled sweeties covered in sugar powder in my glove box, Twenty years ago when it was announced that Concorde would cease operations, and would be returning to her home in Bristol I drove to the same spot and watched in the drizzle as the spitfire entertainment moved off and the last ever flight came home to land nobody else there with me on the day,but I felt a hand on my shoulder Thanks dad. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all Catch you in 2024 R.
I got to meet the Me262 pilot who flew over england (first one since 1945), he is currently a historic flight test pilot for airbus (must've been in his 60s) and his story was overwhelming, I wish I could've sat down with him for longer.
Brilliant episode once again gentlemen. For 46 podcasts you've made me feel a bit more normal about how weird I am regarding cars and I thank you for that. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New Year. I'm looking forward to 2024. 👍🏻
My wife bought me a soft brush which normal people would use to put milk on their sausage rolls. I use it to clean my vents and dusty bits when I feel the need. It doesn’t scratch the glossy bits. 👍
Merry Christmas to the whole podcast cast and crew! I have loved this podcast. It has genuinely been one of the highlights of each week and I cannot thank you all enough for giving fellow car enthusiasts and addicts a safe space to nerd out
Makes this petrolhead's Friday the best day of week. Chris et al...what about giving your views (good, bad, ugly, some experience with, or you know of somebody with it....) on your listeners' /viewers' cars; starting with a short skit on my (Richard's) Honda Civic Sport Plus 2018 model? And others' cars weekly. Would be great to know your experiences/view on it as people who know a lot about cars.
Neil, I've sat in the cockpit of a Vulcan being shown through it by an ex RAF Engineer who retailed us with stories of the Falkland War effort in the V bombers. Amazing stuff. Back when men were men. 1:00:29
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all the podcasts and crew, your podcast is amazing.I look forward to it every week. And I look back at other episodes. Thank you.👍
Merry Christmas 🎅 to you all, this podcast/video cast has been hands down the best entertainment of the year, week on week. Well done and enjoy your Christmas tipples and puddings
You were all on top form for this Christmas special. You know we are all looking forward to a final 2023 special pod to wrap up (no pun intended) for the year of conception of the Collecting Addicts podcast, but we understand if you want to put your feet up, get pissed and not drive for a few days :) Love all your work for the past year and creating this wonderful forum and discourse. Thanks guys all the best for 2024 looking forward to it!!
I’ve watched them all and I literally just scroll at random and choose whatever number of Addicts podcast it is and watch it again regardless as it’s such easy listening pleasure for petrolheads. Love this. Keep it going until number 999 😂
I bought myself an early Christmas present back in 1990 i think, It was Edwards grandfather Dicks Porsche 928 S1 with tele dial wheels! From memory it was an early '79 car and i was trold it was a motor show car? Living in Purton nr Swindon at the time, I acquired it from a local business man and immediately changed it with a bare metal respray from chocolate brown to Guards Red. It had the lovely Pascha check trim and at 21 years old, I was in heaven. I wish i still had it and wish I could remember its reg number to try and track it down!
Merry Christmas to all… thanks for the hours of banter between you guys, very grateful to you all. May 2024 bring us good health and many more hours of entertainment through this magnificent pod. All the best!
Have loved the Addicts this year, it's awesome, keep it up gents! For a bit of geekery/accuracy, a Top Fuel dragster is direct drive, there are no gears once in "drive", there is a massive clutch assembly with multiple disks and plates which is progressively actuated with a timer initiated by hitting full throttle. The 2 seater at Santa Pod typically runs around the 7.8 second territory, which is still indecently fast, but you'll need to head to other shores for a faster passenger experience. Glad to hear Chris Cooper was at the Euro Finals, I was there too for the full event, it was awesome, albeit brutally hot!
I want to say thank you, to you all, for this year of fun conversation. I've really enjoyed listening every Friday, here in Upstate New York. Happy Christmas.
Fantastic! I used to watch these as soon as they came out on a Friday but now I tease myself and mostly wait until Monday or Tuesday in the knowledge of that by doing, I can then watch the next episode a few days later :) Loving the book too Mr Harris.
I've only just been put onto these by a work colleague of mine and now enjoying them weekly. Going between the original ones and the new ones. As a petrol head and being the same age as these chaps I really identify with your thoughts and comments. Happy Christmas chaps and looking forward to hearing from you when you're all a bit heavier :)
Looking forward to 2024 - Been a cracking year thank you Addicts - I'm fairly sure the future of this podcast now rests on the shoulders of dear Mr Manish... If there is any way of getting some filmed content out (maybe a depreciation challenge, maybe a road trip) that would be truly monumental. Merry Christmas & Take it Easy.
Thanks for all the entertainment. Great way to sign this semester off for me, listening to you guys. I did set a bit of my scholarship money aside to get Neil a nice connection of fiber optic internet ❤ BS-ing aside, Neil is the best, you guys are great.
Blue Steel, Mr Cooper, was the cruise missile carried by the Victor (best of the V bombers) ad I'm sure you remembered later. My dad was in Woomera working on the inertial navigation for them in the '60's. One of his colleagues who went on to staff the Aussie radio telescope that received Apollo 11's transmissions was involved in a flat spin in a Victor. Brave chaps.
Manish - very good choice on the lightening. In fairness it's quite manoeuvrable so not just a missile. My Dad worked for AVM Geoffrey Cairns who was one of the test pilots of the Lightening. If you're interested there are two at Bruntingthorpe and they do a static test with both Avons lit up and on full reheat which I can tell you is quite a sight to see, hear and feel.
Excellent Podcast as always. Those were not missiles on top of the Lightning wings, they were external ferry fuel tanks, it carried missiles on the side of the fuselage beneath the cockpit, either Firestreak or Red Top. Also talking about Rowland White, if you enjoyed Vulcan 607, then follow the rest of his books, all excellent reads.
You can go to Tangmere aviation museum and try the lightning simulator they have, a recovered cockpit sat infront of a projector. It's not the best simulator you'll ever see, but if you are lucky you'll have a retired lighting pilot talking you through the flight which is pretty amazing.
Merry Christmas to all of you. This podcast has been my Saturday morning for the past months over here in Australia. Keep delivering this brilliant conversation, even when Manish buys that wonderful Ferrari.
Any chance you guys could post a reading list, car stuff and plane stuff. I read first light on your recommendation and loved it. Sure I'm not the only one that'd appreciate it! Merry Christmas addicts, thanks for a fantastic year of podcasts! ❤️
Happy Christmas everyone! mega pod cast always watch! Oh and I've got the book Chris for my birthday today so think I'm part of the gang now. 🎉 Have a goodn 😎👍
Must say Russian Gaz 24 or Volga as it was known there, was a total crap!! One thing people loved about it ( in the total deficit of mechanical parts) that you could buy spares from the taxi drivers😂 Thank you so much for the pod! So much fun!🎉
So guys been with you since ep4 never written before. Just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and sorry Manish but may you never get your 365GT M ( don't really mean that). Thank you all for the best entertainment on RU-vid. I just sit here by myself bursting out in spontaneous laughter my lovely wife knows now what's happening. Thank you once again and greetings from Oz 🇦🇺
Great bumper episode. When CC was describing his trans Wilts/Hants/Dorset journey, I thought "What car will he be using " just before CH asked. GMTA indeed.
The ideal gift for an addict is a CTEK charger and a set of instructions for modifying the car fuse box so you can plug the CTEK into the "cigar" lighter socket. Cushty.
What a lovely episode! Merry Christmas to all addcts and hopefully see you doing the same great things through 2024! Now, one small comment, you all discuss rather expensive cars and budgets…so I want to test you on your knowledge of very affordable cars from the seventies and eighties. The two car garage challenge needs to fill two needs: one grocery getter and one weekend fun car for the good weather weekends and having fun in regularity and map reading rallies for classic cars. The daily must be older then 30 years and the fun car older then 40 years. The budget is 15k Pounds Sterling. What would you recommend?
Boys…. You know you can do exactly that with the dinner under Concorde at the Duxford Imperial War Museum? If you contact them, you can arrange it. They do all sorts….social gatherings, corporate dinners and, as a wedding photographer myself, weddings! I have shot one there and it was incredible! Vulcan in the same hangar too! Amongst many others. Do you should definitely get in touch with them, it’s easily doable
Hello my name is Andy and I am an addict, mostly cars and F1 but I dabble in watchs and music! I must put it on the record that I absolutely despise the talk of this podcast/meetings ever ending! I look forward to Friday knowing I will have an episode/meeting for the drive to work (95 Geo tracker). My absolute favorite podcast. Never stop --2 car garage-- I really enjoy when you all have to pick cars for other people. So my humble submission is you each have an unlimited budget to buy the dream 2 car garage for your favorite motoring journalist. Since I’m not one to ask of others and not do it myself… Mr. Harris, in thanks for the hours of joy your passion has brought me if had Bezos bucks would be receiving A dark blue 2012 Bentley Mulsanne with a cream colored cloth interior. Front seat delete replaced with a dog bed the finest Soundsystem money can buy and of course a cigarette lighter and ashtray replaced with a sweetie delivery system. And a Ferrari F50 with a lifetime supply of tires. And mannish because Senna is one of my favorite documentaries and the reason that I got into F1 and do an F1 podcast with my dad. I’ll buy you your Lamborghini Countach and your Ferrari 456 M GT but the podcast can’t end!
