ZITRONEDIAC succ though fishes can't feel pain like humans. The stress on the fragile discus can cause death. Discus are VERY VERY fragile fishes. One of the hardest fishes to keep. Throwing them around like that isn't helping them. Isn't saving the breed.
I'm sorry, but am I the only one seeing how bad those guys are handling those discus? I mean... we can see the scratches from the netting. They just got caught! Those guys should be instructed to have extreme care for those fish. When they get scratched like that in the beginning their journey will be more difficult. Amazing colors!!! Where were they collecting? Thanks for sharing the video!!
there Is no responsability in such hard fishering, without any Control, some wild especies ir may disapear due such fishing methods at any Season. Do not buy Wild Species.
Stop collecting wild caught species, i am from south india, all u guys know about torpedo barb, once it was abundant in our streams now it have almost dissappeared, only due to unethical fishing.....
Of course both of you have a valid point and in many places aquarium fish shouldn’t be collected because of so many reasons but the fact of it is that in places like the amazon people will do any work to make money, and without the aquarium trade in these places the wild amazon habitats would be destroyed by overfishing for food, gold-mining, agriculture and poaching other rarer species. But by aquarists working with the collectors it is in their best interest for the fish collectors to sustain the environment so the aquarium fish can reproduce and so they can keep collecting sustainably. I’m not saying that every fish should be wild caught but there are definitely cases where it should be applied.
@@maxs2521 true, i think it's just difficult for stores or customers to decide which wild caught are not endangering the wild populations. often times the iucn red list or wherever the species is listed may not be updated for a long time. Take Glossolepis Wanamensis, for example, declared endangered in 1996 i believe on the iucn red list, and it hasn't been updated since. but it is thought to be extinct in the wild. This fish was pushed to extinction in the wild from invasive species, mostly a tilapia species. Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi is another one that is thought to be endangered but may still be wild caught. thats why many people just prefer captive bred. not enough information.
Duh how do you think they get to that captive bred? They have to have thousands of wild caught parent fish first! Thats like saying i only eat meat from the store instead of hunting/killing an animal get real!
Discus capturing is seasonal and they only take a small percentage of what's in there river systems. The handling is quite sufficient and does no harm to them. 2 to 3 weeks in good clean water in a holding tank with anti parasitic and general tonic treatment and they will look quality fish.
+Echo Tankster look dude, my point is : the last discus they imported was in 1990, they have bread millions of them (more than 200000 in stock) if they catch them all in the wild, it will probably be a problem for the ecosystem... nowadays there are many more colours and variations in breaded in captivity (asian, german...) so why put wild discus in your tank? but no problem if you have another option on that... it your right as a human being.
Tom Bultynck If I ever were to buy a Discus I would buy it wild. I don't care about the over-bred stuff. In fact if I could most of my fish would be wild caught.
The worst part? People who buy these fish ignore that the come from deep murky waters...and place them in intensely lit plant aquariums with crystal clear waters that stresses the fish until they become ill..then die. At least know that they don't like that set up before you end up killing them.
beautiful fish would be dead if it weren't for wild collecting. considering where wild collecting is allowed the amazon is healthier cause the people living there don't have to turn to things like mining that destroy the amazon.
@@E____R474 the other work is things like logging, palm oiling farming, building factories and mining.which destorys the amazon and is what is driving many species of fish into exctinction. There's no such thing has a good choice in this world.only less bad ones based on compromise. Fishing is the only source of sustainable of income in the amazon. Also in places where fishing is the main source of income the Amazon is actually healthy.
I get this is a way of financial life for many people but honestly, there is no reason to even buy these fish. You can find perfectly good fish that are bred in captivity.
there is plenty of reason to buy these fish.the biggest is protecting their habitat by supporting a sustainable industry. captive bred fish ironically is killing the amazon by making people turn to income sources like palm oil farming, mining, logging, ect.
clear water doesn't mean clean or good for fish.that so called dirty water is loaded with tannins, plants and algae meaning the water is very clean despite how nasty it looks.
@@linslins4860 throw a fish in your clean tap water and it'll die from the chlorine and ammonia poisoning. cause there's a huge difference between clean for us to drink and clean for a fish to live in. clean in this case means low nitrates and high in bacteria that is good for fish.
Brianna Harter we never use tap water ever. We only use pure mineral drinking water. From taking a bath, flushing toilet, cooking, laundry , watering garden plants, swimming pool etc etc. All from bottled mineral water.
Shame every single one of those fish died I'd never seen a collecting so harsh before And handling a discus with dry hands.. Immediately strips the slime layer Dead fish
You have no idea how many of those died, what if all survived? How many have you seen? 2? 3? If you've seen more you must have been specifically looking for those, why? Google "Diskusseuche", those fish can come back from that stuff, touching them with dry hands ain't good, but it ain't gonna kill them alone
The water is not "dirty", it is stained with tannic acid from the decaying plants, harmless. In aquariums when we refer to a tank being dirty, it is because there are high levels of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate.. These are all deadly to the fish.
Kenny Kirk Well it's mostly clay in suspension and algae, but you're right, that water is harmless unlike the polluted water of a closed environment without propper care.
There are all those chemicals, however, the levels that they can get to in a tank are extremely high compared to the abundant sea, rivers and oceans. Even having one tiny tetra in a 500 gallon tank doesn't compare to the amount of water that all these fish have, so those levels never, ever reach even a fraction of what they can reach in an aquarium.
