Black Magic, you are one special box, as well as the dress maker pins and ribbon labels! Notion boxes are always like digging through treasure chests and time capsules!
I’ve sewn and collected vintage/antique supplies & notions all my life. But they are ferreted away with regular sewing supplies & in the attic. You inspire me to organize it together and use some in display. Fun! ☘️🥰🥳
I have a collection of old sewing notions as well. I’m a life long sewer and was raised by a life long sewer. They all bring back great memories of clothing that we made and the occasions that they were worn at. Especially the excitement of picking out fabrics for our Easter outfits. What really brought me back was the Black Magic box. That was my mums favourite chocolates and she shared them with us sparingly. I can still taste the strawberry cream.❤️🇨🇦
I think of all your great finds, I enjoyed this the most. I’m a lifelong sewer and vintage supply collector. The time and artistry used for the paper wrappings is exquisite.
I started collecting vintage buttons after watching your videos. A few months ago I found vintage Christmas button covers. I was so excited. I love the Black Magic box. I learn so much from you. Thank you.🙂
Thank you for sharing. I have all my great grandmothers buttons and sewing things. I will go through them today with renewed vision and interest thanks to you.
I get excited too when l find sewing notions old or new. I especially love finding the previous owners pin cushions at estate sales. I can almost feel their love of sewing and wondered what they made. Thanks for sharing.
So many beautiful treasures! To me a sewing basket is so personal, filled with things a person created or repaired or hoped to make someday. I love finding sewing kits at estate sales and being able to keep that energy alive. I found that skirt marker at a sale a few years back. I get so much use out of it!
I have watched this video 8-10 times now. I am always intrigued at the things that you find at thrift stores etc. We just don’t have the quality of things that you find at our thrift stores. Just love watching your videos. Thank you for bringing this to us.
Absolute treasure! In England we have charity shops and if you're patient and prepared to rummage, sometimes you find sewing notions. Thank you for such an absorbing watch.
Your Sewing Notions collection is so cute. The square and horseshoe buttons are fun. My mom taught me how to sew in 1967 when I was 10 and I still have & use our 1955 Singer Rocketeer. My incredible son-in-law cleaned it so it’s as good as new.
Very good video a lot of nice items love the graphics. I don’t see as much as I used to but still like to collect sewing notions when I’m out thrifting🙂
I love sewing notions and have a collection myself. Just want to say that your tape measure has a secret. The tiny hole in a winding handle should have a micro picture in it. Have a look you might find a Victorian image inside. As for Black Magic chocolate it is still in production though the box is less glamorous now days.
Amazing!!! Love vintage sewing notions ad those boxes and the ribbons, wow!!! All I could do to not scream and wake everybody up !!! You always find the most beautiful items!!!! Thank you so much for sharing! And also thank you for the cooking videos! Really helps to show how to make different meals!!!
I would love to see the rest of your collection! I started going to estate sales in 2021 and have started collecting antiques and since my grandmother is a seamstress and i do embroidery the sewing notions are one of my favorite finds!
I have used large mother of pearl coat buttons to make piin cushions similar to the one from the book. Just make a little velvet cushion to sandwich between the buttons. Add a long ribbon to wear around your neck.
Wow,you have so many neat things! I only have a couple old pin cushions, and 3 jars of old white buttons, but.Your video just made me decide I want to start collecting old sewing notions. It will be a fun thing to look for and doesn't take up a lot of room.T hank you for sharing.
That’s wonderful. I was just thinking today that I have never regretted any sewing notion or sewing boxes full of stuff that I have bought. I’ve always used or treasured it all.
Love this video! It worked fine for me, no black out. So much fun seeing all the notions😍 reminded me of my grandmother and mom sewing. So much fun!! Thank you for sharing❤
You are steady approaching 10,000 subscribers! From this video alone, you should get hundreds! I can also see how you are a teacher. You explain the different pieces, with so much interest. I also love your magazines, lately! Please keep these videos coming! Thank you for all that you do for your RU-vid community!
I’m surprised I haven’t seen this video of yours before - vintage sewing notions/haberdashery are my absolute favorite treasures. I haven’t done much thrift shopping this year but I have found a few special items on Facebook marketplace and recently bought some display cabinets, shadow boxes and printer’s trays to get some treasures out where they can be seen. I’m looking forward to opening up my trunks and boxes and rediscovering treasures that I haven’t seen in a while.
I just love sewing notions.🥰 The memories of my mother sewing when I was young are forever etched in my mind. I love your curated collection. Awesome! It screams you. 🙂 TFS Can't belive you found the boxes at the thrift store!😮
So pretty the graphics on the labels are lovely . The little paper with beige thin thread my mum used it to darn her stockings. Black magic were all dark chocolate you can still buy them today. I could imagine the thick ribbon in the last box going round a hat as a trim. You always find some lovely things I love the little square box with the black pins
It's astounding to me that sewing was such a prominent part of many women's lives to the point they had ornate engraved thimbles. My cousins, who is an amazing seamstress, collects old sewing notions. Now I have some ideas of what to look for when I treasure hunt for her. 😊💕
Great finds, I found a black magic candy tin a few years ago at Savers. I displayed it for Halloween, yours is way bigger great for your Halloween storage items too
I love your old sewing treasures along with your new ones; so many new cool items with beautiful graphics. I envision many new crafting projects with them. My 1st thought for the purple pin box was for a Halloween display. Thanks for sharing!
You find the most amazing items. My sister and I go to the Garment district in Los Angeles so when we can go again I will definitely be on the lookout for similar item , we go into many little shops with piles of stuff😄
Im a sewer also ...❤so anytime I come across vintage sewing items Im thrilled..love that laundry tape with the E on it at the end...what did they use it for....I got alot of sewing items from my mother in law when she went into nursing home...lots of different seam bindings...and an old thimble...and a ton of thread on wood spools...love your videos keep them coming...and not to forget all the older buttons..
Love it all! I actually sold one of those German cubes with the glass pins on eBay a while back and the man wrote me and said he was purchasing for his wife’s sculptures! It seriously made me think of you! How funny.
Great video! Thanks for sharing magazine pics learned about mother of pearl pin cushion. The ribbons were beautiful tho the labels with flowers wonderful! In black magic box was the needle in bottom plastic couldn’t tell. It will be fun to see how you use and display.
What an amazing find at the thrift store !!!! Oh my gosh the labels!! And then, you lucky, thing you found French laundry labels in the bottom!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
I can help you identify ♥️. The tape measure is carved nut w a bone center and Stanhope viewer. The wood circle w solid disc is a hoop set for marking textiles. I’m the author of ‘Antique American Needlework Tools. You have some fun finds! Mourning pins, Cash’s tape etc. thanks for sharing!
Super neat..!! I just found your channel and have been binge-watching 🥰 I LOVE your finds and wish we had a comparable thrift store close by. What state are you in? I’m in CA with no antiques. 😛
Hi. I’m about as far as far can get from California. There were many Victorian to mid century family owned dept. stores around here. I believe I find a lot of items because of the plethora of those stores.
So lovely ☺️ I just love antique sewing notions and always look for them . I found some 1920s belt buckles and buttons at goodwill outlet a while back and forgot all about them ! Thanks for the reminder . How do you display or store them ? Just curious . Also I loooove Victoria magazine and I can’t find them online . All big book stores are practically out of business around here so I can’t just pick one up like I used to from like Barnes and nobles etc. I think I should just get subscription .
