Nice vid! Note: The 2nd gen iPod looked the same as the original, but integrated a non-moving touch sensitive scroll wheel. The “2nd gen” that you quoted (light up buttons) is actually the 3rd gen, and the blue scroll wheel was the 4th gen. Great vids looking forward to more!
I had that original USB stick shuffle, I used to hang it from my rearview mirror! I love how you have genre specific iPods, very clever! I think we have one of the HP branded iPods somewhere in the house.
The little clip shuffle that was maybe the size of a quarter was my jam. I loved that thing. Although not having a screen was a bummer. But for it's time was so nice.
They are definitely going to start with the big box PC games and ask “what do these mean to you? You can download them digitally instead of taking up your space. Most of them cannot even load on a current PC!”
I had an iPod mini in high school and to this day I think that was the best music player they made. That thing was a tank of a device! it survived a decade of abuse before the hard drive failed. RIP iPod mini. You'll never be forgotten
what you think is the 2nd iPod is actually the Third gen iPod, the 2nd gen iPod looks like the first gen except it doesn't have the Physical scroll wheel and trades it for a touch wheel, and it has a port covering the firewire port. what you think is the 3rd iPod id actually the 4th gen iPod they either had a monochrome screen or a Color screen. They called the color one The Photo iPod.
@@axel8282 Yeh exactly. Check it "iPod Photo" never came in an all black model....closest that came to that was the U2 edition with red click wheel iPod Video "5th Gen".....did Also...iPod Photo had an almost square screen just like the mono 4th gen (the one MJR calls a 3rd Gen) The iPod Video had a more video friendly aspect ratio screen and I can just tell by looking at the screen that it's an iPod Video Technical specs: iPod Photo Screen: 220×176 pixel LCD iPod Video Screen: 320×240 QVGA screen en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_Classic#5th_generation_(%22iPod_Video%22)
I've always thought the iPod was one of the first big tech gadgets that started the modern era. It replaced individual CDs and Cassettes in one swoop. When I got my first iPod, I stopped bringing CDs with me in the car completely, as I could just plug in the iPod and have all of my music. Once the iPhone and iPod Touch came out, it was all over. Nice collection! I have my 3rd gen (the one with the buttons, 2nd gen actually looks like the 1st but has a touch wheel), a 5th gen iPod video, a 160GB 6.5 gen, a 1st gen touch, a 5th gen nano, and some other ones around. iPods are cool!
I have a 5th generation iPod touch, 5th gen Nano, and 7th gen Nano. They all work great still. It’s crazy that after all this time, they still do exactly what they’re supposed to with no problems. The 5th gen Nano is my go to for music.
@@MrJturner74 Nice, mine are a 5GB 1st gen, 20GB 3rd gen and a 1st gen white nano. All with new batteries and polished to great condition. If I ever get another it will probably be a decked out 7th gen.
I got one too that was black with a chrome back. The front was like shiny black glass. I still have it with box in new condition but it has my name etched on it by Apple. What was weird is like 8 years ago there was a recall on them and they would of sent me a new one but I was like nah I want the first gen one cause they looked better to me.
My first ipod was the 5th gen, was perfect for college as you could plug it in and use it as an external hard drive. No losing thumb drives plus I could listen to music while I worked. Eventually the battery exploded on it, but it had a good run.
That was old Apple, before Jobs came back. They were on the brink of irrelevance. There’s a direct line from the iPod to the iPhone, then to iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and the new M1 Mac. So.. yeah. The first Apple products are about as relevant to Apple as a company today as hunting gear is to modern-day Abercrombie and Fitch.
A few years ago, I think it was, I found a pink iPod nano at a Goodwill near me. I plugged it in and turned it on. After I got done checking it out, I turned it off. When I turned it back on, all I got was a white screen. My mom looked it up and that issue is called the "white screen of death". Luckily, I was able to get the songs off of it that I wanted. I now have an iPod touch, and have never had any issues with it. I hope you never have any problems with your iPods that are working!
03:30 check Dankpods here on RU-vid he is a extremly funny guy and shows how replace the battery and HDD with a new one and SD Card modules. There are a ton of possibilities for the iPod.
Metal jesus is very responsible for collecting stuff he's not a hoarder he collects memories artifacts to be a reminder from the past. Gadgets gismos games. From child hood even I remember it but it does not materialize.
@@ez054098 No, not really. Did they even make more than one Zune? Certainly not as many generations as the iPod. Inferior product is inferior. Not an apple fanboy, but the iPod was a trendsetter for more reasons that just playing MP3s. For one, it looked good, which you really can't say for the Zune.
I had 2 iPod Classics (7th Generation, 160gb) where the hard drives broke down. Fortunately with websites like iFlash.xyz and iRestore.com I have been able to get parts and repair them. Both of my iPod Classics are fully functional now with SSDs (1TB and 512gb) and work fantastic.
I still have my 160GB iPod Classic since 2013! I have about 10,000 songs, 1 movie (Disney's Brink), and 2 seasons of Angry Beavers, with 89GB of free space left! I absolutely love it and consider it one of my most prized possessions, I use it in my car and continue to add new music to it to this day.
The one you name as second gen (orange buttons) is actually the 3rd gen and the 3rd gen you mention is is the 4th. The 2nd gen was same as the 1st just no moving scroll wheel.
4:05 this is the 4th generation. It is the 3rd generation to offer a 20GB drive. The second generation to offer a 40GB drive. The color screen variant "iPod photo" was the first to be offered in a 60GB capacity.
Recently bought a classic 120gb and packed it with long DJ sets and mixtapes, really nice to have a device that only plays music and doesn’t have pop ups and adverts
I also collect iPods. People look at me like I’m crazy for doing it but I love them. I am trying to get every iPod Nano in Product red currently, I have every one but the 2nd gen. I also have all the touches. I am probably going to move to getting other models eventually. I really want a U2 iPod, the black and red design is super cool.
The iPod classic is still a great practical device if you're a fan of a lot of records you can't find on major streaming services. Also my dog literally ate my first generation iPod shuffle. She's 15 years old now. She outlived the entire product
I remember getting my iPod touch for Christmas 2007 and me and my brother were so excited we found where our parents hid our presents and unboxed the iPod touches we got and played with them for a couple hours then put them back in the box and went to sleep lol
The one you called the iPod Photo is actually the iPod Video (Classic 5th generation) and the one you called the 2nd generation Classic is actually the 3rd generation Classic.
I love this man! My first ipod was also the third gen. one! I sold it at one point but to be honest, I shouldn't have done that. It's still an excellent machine. Great design too.
I actually do the same thing in my car but with 120g iPod Classics. I have three of them: 1 with all my Rock, 1 with R&B, Funk and Hip Hop and 1 with Jazz and Soundtracks. Those things are nearly indestructible and I don't have to fidget with playlists or connections. They are just ready to go. And battery life is back to insane levels after swapping the old with new ones.
I have a 2nd gen Nano I haven't touched in years, but it was an amazing device. It was a couple years before I got my first smartphone, so a portable device for music and video was an amazing thing. I watched SO many movies and shows on that little screen! I'm super nostalgic about that device.
Ryan Beitz is making it his life's mission to collect every VHS copy of Speed (it was at something like 450 copies when I heard about him on NPR). So My Dude, your iPod collection is no big deal. Just be you.
I found an iPod Nano 3rd Gen on top of a hand dryer in a bathroom, I tucked it in my pocket immediately. Years later I traded it in for cash and I still regret it, I loved that little thing!
I still own an iPod Nano. The little square one. Love it, use it everyday, in the car, on the gym, while running etc. The sound quality is much better and cleaner than any modern phone too. A couple of years ago I was having a party at home, and a friend was testing his phone (Android) on the sound boxes, and when we tested my iPod the difference was night and day. Then another friend with an iPhone wanted to test it and the iPod crushed it as well. We put the same songs. Just, damn.
No you are not nuts. The ipod still kicks ass today. (Not the touch screen models tho). No interruptions, no updates required, no loss of wifi, etc. I came by a 5th gen classic, free, and I'm glad I did. Havent used my phone for music since, save for Pandora (mainly for discovery of fresh tunes)
I totally identified with this video @MetalJesusRocks ! When I bought my 2011 VW GTI Wolfsburg Edition it came with the old iPod connector as well and I started using a 4th Gen Nano as my car music collection. It is still in there to this day!
I had Sandisk mp3 players from 2007-2011 growing up, but I remember going to middle school back in the late 2000s, and seeing so many kids with 2nd generation ipod shuffles!
For the longest time I used to use (still have it) a “Classic” with a decent sized drive. Could put my entire collection on that thing. Was great even as I started getting iPhones since their storage wasn’t even close to the iPod. Now I mostly use my collection synced with the cheap Match service since I’ve never found a decent replacement for Apple’s smart playlists. For example, did you know Plex doesn’t use all the metadata available???? If you have a collection from 2000, of 80s/90s music from an artist and have everything tagged “correctly” (each song with its original release date), Plex only looks at the album and a smart playlist of, let’s say, 80s stuff, won’t work. /end rant
My first iPod was a 2nd gen Shuffle. Lost it in a hotel room. Now my music is on radio. And know this: the iPod Touch will get a bigger screen size, similar to the iPhone Pro Max, a more powerful CPU, more powerful cameras, more RAM, and lose the home button. Then, it will no longer be called an iPod Touch, it will be called iPad Nano.
A few corrections, if you allow me. iPod that was named as 2-nd gen actually a 3-rd gen iPod, and I used to have one. iPod that was named "photo" is actually 5-th gen iPod Video, and Photo is a color version of 4-th gen iPod, the first one with a clickwheel (with integrated buttons). I have a 4-th gen 20gb iPod from 2004. Replaced the battery twice myself, and it still works. Also I have final 6-th gen iPod Classic 160gb for my Volvo XC70, because car stereo is not support my current everyday player - Sony NW-ZX2. And I still think that classic iPod with a clickwheel - has the most logical, comfortable and easy to use interface and controls to date.
I only owned two iPods. The first was a 5th Generation iPod "Classic" which I bought in a Chicago Apple store and was stolen in a bar in Toronto. I then purchased a 6th Gen iPod classic, which I still own.
I fixed the old iPod I got in High School back in 2004, it's a 60GB video iPod. I got a new 300ml battery and an iflash adapter to intergrate a mSata 500GB SSD and also fixed the headphone jack. It was a bit pricey. But worth it seeing it turn back on and use it in my car every day Same as you, I have the old iPod connector and integrates well with my factory stereo!
I still have my original square Ipod from 2007 that I use in my car. It has all my music from those high school years all the way until 3-4 years ago! It's great to go back and enjoy and is in the car all the time ready to go :)
When I fired up the new metal Jesus video about iPods I never expected to see myself in an old music video toward the beginning of the video playing on one of the iPods. Stoked you played an old 3 inches of blood video! Especially as a long time watcher of your channel.
My first iPod was a 4gb silver mini. I got a 30gb 5th gen iPod video after that and then in 2009 decided to buy a 120gb 6.5 gen classic which I knew would be the last iPod I would ever need. 12 years later, it still is.
