Collecting Vintage Matchbox Models - 1 to 75 - Part 1 - First Pick Ups
In today's video we take a look at my vintage Matchbox models. I've really only recently started collecting these as I feel they represent much better value than some other toy lines that are 50+ years old and also because they are pulling on some quite strong nostalgia strings.
This video see's my very earliest acquisitions, alongside a vintage 1982/1983 catalogue, a fantastic guide book plus a challenge I've set myself going forwards. Below, are a few of the links I've been enjoying, both here on RU-vid and the link to the Vectis auction I was referring to in the video.
I do hope you enjoyed this video and that you'll join me on my journey collecting these wonderful vintage toys.
A great vintage Matchbox restoration channel; ru-vid.com
Another one is here; ru-vid.com/show-UCdji8j-KUUsvHKc5M2T6GqA
The book as shown in the video on Amazon here; amzn.to/3rYmPYO
Link to the final Vectis auction, with options to download the catalogue or just view online is here; (note there were 2 auctions. each split over 2 days to sell this collection and each auction has a seperate catalogue). Go back to May 2021 to see the first catalogue. www.vectis.co.uk/auction/the-graham-hamilton-ultimate-matchbox-picture-box-collection-part-2-926-1

Fabulous. I have maybe 8 modern day Matchbox cars and here you are with pristine Matchbox classic toys AND you have collections beyond diecast models. Wow!

I guess it's all down to patience and getting a bit lucky at toy fairs and online. I like to collect lots of different things👍

That's so cool. I really wish I had kept all my original ones so my boy could have enjoyed them, not that he went short mind you! He had loads when he was growing up. Condition not an issue when they're still being enjoyed👍🙂

Great to see, thank you. I still have some of the Matchbox cars however they are still played with. I also have some yellow Matchbox track to put the cars on. This was a track my dad brought home for me. A customer of my dad’s was emigrating to Australia and they gave it to him in the late 70s / early 80s. It is a great track we still use today.

Thanks Chris! I thought this might appeal mate. These were widely sold in the USA so pretty easy to find online. Not overly expensive to collect, if you're ok with mint loose examples and a lot of fun. A nice change to vintage paperbacks 🙂👍

Use canned air spray under pressure etc. The tooth brush is well in danger of damaging the brilliant paint schemes.
@JulesBurt

Understood, although the bristles on the toothbrush are so soft now as I've been using it for years, I can't see it affecting the paintwork even if I tried.👍

I had a ton of Matchbox cars as a kid. My fave was the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am.

Great ! Love it . My first die cast was a Matchbox . Thoes were the days we threw away the boxes 🙄😥 And staged crashes , wrecks and played these to distruction . Anyhow mayhaps it is better to have played and distroyed ( money now lost ) than never to have played . I wish my ' Back To The Furture ' model was full scale . Lol . I would go back in time and preserve all my toys. Lol . Mayhaps a camel hair lens brush may be safer to clean with ? . Thank you for sharing these along with your memories .

Cheers Sylvan! Yes, I think we all wish we had a time machine! The toothbrush is incredibly soft so no harm coming to the models but I've acquired some new tools lately so watch this space? Glad you enjoyed this one🙂👍

My first toys were matchbox in 1983 they were still using a card board box at that time used to go in Tesco with my mom they were a pound each so thay had gone up a little bit from the 75 think my first one was a red plane with folding Wings there was a couple of different ones
@JulesBurt
@JulesBurt 2 года назад
Ah yes, you got the very final ones released in boxes. The plane with the folding wings in quite near the end, number 27F Swing Wing F 14 Tomcat I think. look that one up on eBay, not too expensive. 👍
