Now that I'm in my 30's and I'm doing a little bit well, I decided to start collecting everything related to my childhood and of course I couldn't miss the Zoids. I just started to investigate and I started to find a lot of versions (being the HMM of Kotobukiya the ones that attracted me the most) but I also found other brands that I assumed were bootlegs and you confirmed it to me. Thanks for this video, I learned several things about collecting Zoids nowadays, since not many people make videos about Zoids as I would expect.
Hey, I'm about to be 30 and doing the same thing lmao I just bought one earlier while at work lmao There's another channel that airbrushes them and they look SO good. This shall be my new hobby
I built a few of the hasbro zoids when I was a kid I loved the experience. Recently due to covid I’ve been inside a lot more, and wanted to start building these again. Your guide helps so much with getting back into building at a higher level. Thanks for the in-depth guide!
You all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me
hey this was very helpful! thank you! one update now that the Kotobukiya's Wild series is out, the Wild series are set in 1/35 scale compared to the standard 1/72. But this is because the zoids from the Wild Series are canonically smaller than previous series. So when you compare the size of the kits, Wild's 1/35 will be very similar to 1/72. I just wanted to throw this out because I was confused for a second when I first saw the HMM Wild line up.
Great video, I’m an old school collector of the original Zoids from back in the 80’s and I’ve had them since I was a kid, I never followed them as I grew up but a few years ago I rebuilt all my old Zoids and they are still in good condition, so it got my interest in Zoids going again and I’ve been looking at peoples collections and my mind is blown how not only they still make Zoids but the designs are crazy looking now and quite different from the original ones, also I didn’t realise about the high end Zoids which are more possible and detailed… some of them are stunning looking, I’ve posted a couple of videos of my original collection of anyone wants to see how they used to look… again thanks for posting this.
This might be the best and most comprehensive Zoids collecting guide out there. As someone who mostly collects High Grade Gunplas, I really want to get into collecting Zoids kits but their price are steeper and rarer compared to gunplas.
Excellent video! I've been building plastic model kits for many years. I just finished my first ZOIDS kit, The Lightning Saix Marking Plus and it was an awesome kit. One thing I find a lot of people neglecting to mention is the section at the beginning of the manuals that states "You can enjoy a more solid finish by using a separately sold plastic adhesive for model kits. When I started watching reviews prior to buying my first kit. Many of the reviewers complained about loose parts and sections falling apart. One guy did a shake test on a Liger kit and parts were flying off. It came across as if this was a downside to the quality which is really unfair in my opinion These things are model kits after all. They are not action figures. The articulation is for posing as you stated in your video. Not for conducting ZOIDS battles on the kitchen floor 🤣🤣. I think it's important that people realize what they are getting with these kits. They are very well engineered and detailed model kits but they are fragile and do require a certain level of care when building and handling. Its easy to translate the instructions for a better understanding of the build process. I saved myself a lot of trouble by finding sections with special instructions or warnings. They are expensive kits and worth the extra effort. 🙏❤️
I didn't even know Supernova existed until recently seeing their new ZA-Stinger model on pre-order. Time to add it to my backlog of gunpla/ligers. Thanks for the tip!
A great vid thank you! Just started getting into gunpla model kits and was a fan of zoids as a kid, I went and checked the price of the model kits and was a bit shocked. Now watching this vid you have given me an understanding to justify why. That makes me excited to work towards getting one. Thank you :)
I'm not sure if I'm late but just to add The other difference between HMM kits and motorize Tomy kits is that the motorize Tomy kit zoids are based on the battle story. Cause technically are zoids story are connected and under shared universe while HMM kits are based on the anime designs.
Hi OmoCha Reviews, I love your channel. I started collecting Zoids in 1980s before Chaotic Century. My first Zoids was a mantis type RMZ-09. I am so happy to come across your channel.
I'm in my late 20s and this video made me feel so much younger. Thanks man. I already own HMM Liger Zero and would love to collect the other three. Hopefully i can get the Schneider this year
Since it's an extensive topic to discuss in under 30 mins, of course we missed a few points. Some things to note: -There are many more authentic products like the D-Style Zoids, Hagane Works, Yamato die casts - It doesn't necessarily mean that it's a shop exclusive just because it has the "limited" mark - BT brand has way more kits than the one in the video but point remains that they only make tiger and liger zoids - Price range estimates are for HMMs only. It's really hard to gauge the price of vintage MIB TOMY kits nowdays - HMM prices are best determined from sellers in Japan. Never use Ebay or Amazon prices as basis! There's a reason why those kits aren't being sold!
Started my first HMM kit last weekend. Indeed a lot more complex than the ones I built in the 80s. BUT I'm digging it. Nice change from the usual Gundam kits I've gotten into since 2019.
Questionable engineering designs? I think you've understated that. The decisions aren't questionable, they're ridiculous. Parts of the Blade Liger were just 'Why? I mean it, why? Are you fricking serious?' Honestly, I think I built mine in the wrong order. I should have started with the Storm Sworder, then the Death Stinger, Lighting Saix, Blade Liger AB or Genobreaker last. If I ever buy another raptor type of model, it's too soon. Doing that tail........ actually, the Genobreaker is well named. Nearly broke me. Putting that together was an exercise in frustration. Looks good, the path there, not so much.
The company became partners to build high quality kits and now they partner up with bandai and liger zero soul of chogokin was born and its a die cast, amazing.
I have built many MG kits in the short time I started this hobby and Zoids have been tempting me lately. This video is super helpful and definitely got a subscription from me. Thank you.
This video helped alot to show me a good way to grow my Zoids collection. As a Zoid-tuber I want to expand my collection to make more videos for my viewers. :)
Just finished my first HMM Berserk Fuhrer and loved it im hooked now. Anyone have a recommendation for next build? Had my eyes on Geno Breaker but open to suggestions 🤔 even looked over a few gundams now that I know I enjoy models.
Hi. I live in Tokyo Japan and source Japanese Transformers for collectors worldwide. But have just started sourcing Zoids for buyers/collectors too. Really appreciate the info in this video and have subscribed. Happy to help you out with any hard to get buys from Japan too 🙂
Awesome video! Informative both for the new and existing members of the community and/or fandom. I would suggest toning down the music is all as it make sit hard to focus on your information. I know the video is old but still worthy of such strong viewership
If you are an action figure guy not model kit there is Hagane works Blade liger, Zoids aggressive series, Yamato shield liger, KOF ligers and berserk fury, revoltech figures, Zoids jr also.............but thats about it.
Hasbro is still producing Zoids. An English version of the Zoids Wild series exist under the Build to Battle line (mega battlers, giga battlers, etc). That said they seem to only be available online to my knowledge.
My first model kit I built as a kid was the Energy Liger like the one in the anime, it needs a battery and could walk. It was a gift I just want to ask how much does it cost? I lost the box so I don’t know who made it was my Energy Liger made by hasbros?
Couldn't agree with you More! I love the Clockwork or Battery TOMY models and don't see the appeal of these high priced "articulated " Zoid models. Besides...nothing says Articulated more than a Zoid moving forward whilst swinging its tail, using its weapons ...and more!
i bought a mirage blade liger, and it was from BT, NEVER hated building a model kit as bad as that, i had the musarame and hayate liger wich was annoying but enjoyable but that was aweful it was so bad it killed all shield liger, blade liger builds for the future, most of the parts where resin molded, parts where molded with defects, the pegs that went into the other parts where often to big or too small, so now i buy Kotobukia ONLY or if i can get some super nova i can be ok but BT will forever be blacklisted from me
I live in the USA and am a huge monster hunter fan is the USA Gundam store a reliable store to order sets from I keep seeing the kits pop up even though they are still on pre order I just want make sure I don't waste my money on a scam site...done that before
I bought the berserk fuhrer and liger zero built them both and honestly had more fitting problems with the liger zero than the fuhrer, both are very fun though the builds are comparable to more complex MGs like sazabi ver ka etc.
havent heard of zoids until recently and wish i saw this before getting my first zoid last year from tomy. i thought theyd be articulated but given their price i shouldve expected not especially since it was a children's toy. now ive resorted to the hmms and some bootlegs :D
Man, would have loved to have a hmm Dark Spiner. Maybe some day. I mean it does loosely use the Geno Saurer body type so maybe a rework could be possible.
Thank you for the video. I'm suddenly interested to get my first zoid but I'm terrifyingly unsure which to get, either the Liger Panzer marking plus or the death stinger or just a cheaper model as a start.
I got Lucky and bought my Blade Liger Mirage kit on ebay for £40 cos the guy selling it wanted to repaint it red then ended up finding the red version for sale anyway.
Funny tho... I got myself liger zero panzer from bt around 3 years ago and I never built it after seeing the instructions 😅. Later I got myself all three liger form supernova and I love those. Still don't dare to built my zero panzer
I was always under the impression the "knockoff brands" were illegally produced bootlegs. Is this not the case? If it is, I'd definitely not suggest them over HMM or suggest them at all period, especially since their quality is usually terrible as you mentioned. Support the good, legal, high quality originals. Buying bootlegs takes money away from Kotobukiya. Perhaps if more people were buying originals instead of bootlegs, they would be inclined to produce more reprints.
Hi, which series and brand are making the moving parts version? I mean spring loaded winding and batteries. How to identify Zoids with and without moving parts type and those which has no power assisted moving features? Thanks
I still remember the day that I bought an BT blade liger not knowing the difference between a knock off and authentic. The building process still haunts me 😢
Correct me if I'm wrong, or maybe I skipped the part when you explain it, but I think you missed the clear version of liger zeros by BT model. Well, I don't necessary think they're good kits, but somewhat nice variant if you want non-ordinary liger zeros.
We indicated in a pinned comment here that there's more from BT :) It'll take forever to name all as they also have fake ones like the Desert Shield Liger and all those clear versions
One of slides showed tomy/hasbro Ultrasaurus for $200. Where and how? This is my dream kit from when I was a kid, but I missed out. If I can get one now I will!
Are there ever any reissues of the older motorised zoids kits, official or otherwise? I want to have a go at building one of those kits but I do not want to sully the value of an original vintage one.
I have to laugh. I was building a Megami Device kit a few months ago and I damaged a joint, so I called up the shop I got it from to ask about getting a replacement sprue and they didn’t have any. I worked the issue out eventually, but when I came in the guy goes “That’s what happens when you punch above your weight class brother! That kit is on the same level as a Master Grade Gundam!🤣” I responded with “Dude, she’s not above my skill level, I’ve built a couple HMM Zoids and those have to be similar!” So to hear that I’m right, and not only that they might be near Perfect Grade difficulty is extremely vindicating.
All that said though: I prefer the originals to the HMMs BECAUSE they’re motorized. I like something that has some sort of function to it other than looking pretty (not that I haven’t built plenty of absolutely gorgeous static kits over the years). Plus you’ve got the selection and you’re never gonna be able to afford an HMM King Gojulas or Ultrasaurus. As you pointed out, even a normal KG these days can run upward of $400.
Mate awesome video as someone who just recalled the anime/tv show it was kind of a mind field to find out what white tiger I should get, thanks for video.
Does kotobukiya, BT, Tomy and supernova have a website with their full list of updated released units? Having a hard time what unit to buy/hunt without seeing what is available and already released.
Is there any difference between the current kits and the Pre-order kotobukiya kit's that release later this year in Japan? I'm seeing Pre-order on the liger zero new century models on their website
Hi in part 18:02 the picture shown is HMM kit, but it's branded Takara Tomy. Shouldn't it say Kotobukiya? Just curious, because I see that layout flying around. Thank you! And great informative video.
The first releases had Takara Tomy as a trademark only. Eventually Kotobukiya negotiated to have their logo instead because it's technically their product :) It's a sort of branding dispute i guess
