Wow, how do you find this stuff? I frequently look up 'Doctor Who' on eBay but never see any prototypes (except the bright coloured plastic versions that cost £100) and then hear about them months later like the articulated 10th lol.
To be honest it's partly luck but mostly it's just watching/searching and waiting. In all my time collecting I've spent years looking for things at the right price, missing out on them or passing them up, either willingly or not due to current circumstances. But in doing that I've also made my fair share of contacts who can help me look or let me know when they find/have something that might interest me. The simple truth is that it really just comes down to time, patience and saving money, which I think is where a lot of people lose interest because of the effort that takes, but if you really want something that much then it means taking time to put the work in.
The last figure isn't a recent prototype, it's from the original classic era of releases, and the K1 robot was originally part of the Collect & Build range so it's unlikely these were intended to be paired together. The picture in question I referenced in the video was from Invasion Of The Dinosaurs, however it's possible that was simply the inspiration/source material for the sculpt.
@@CaptainJimiPie That’s weird, there never seems to be issues with people selling the actual figures on ebay 🤔 what difference would it be to cast from that head if it’s ok to sell the real one anyway?
It’s all very long winded in terms of the legal implications so to put it simply it’s just very grey area. Selling a prototype figure is one thing, that’s technically fine because the head usage was still approved for that figure. Regardless or not of whether the figure was meant to be in public hands or not, it was still produced “officially”. But reproducing a prototype piece (or even standard pieces) for sale moves into an area that could be seen as counterfeiting from a legal perspective and that’s not an area I’m willing to tread into
@@CaptainJimiPie Wouldn’t that apply to casting figure heads in general then? You seem to have a lot on ebay, why aren’t any of those an issue? It’s still CO’s sculpts, even if it’s just the face.
As I say it's a grey area, but everything I sell has been modified in some way that it's not a direct copy of the original. CO are aware of the things that I sell and take no issue as long as I'm not making direct copies or claiming that my creations are official, and I've always agreed that should I ever be asked to stop selling for any reason I will.
