You would turn in your stamp books at the store and pick out items according to how many full books you had. They would have everything from toys to household items. From the 50s and 60s
Wow. You found some cool stuff. I remember my parents having those stamps. Brings back memories. The dies can be used with the Big Shot. You simply have to buy the extended plates. Kuddos - Great finds👍
I had to stop the video and order the passport stamp. I love all the extra signatures and the barcode! I love the consumer stamps, that’s a great find. Great haul!
Loved seeing the stamp books. I remember the S&H stamps. You got stamps in turn for the amount you spent at grocery and other participating stores. There were S&H redemption stores. They were always crowded and you either chose something in stock or it would be ordered for you to pick up. My area also had Top Value stamps.
I stocked up on Tim Holtz's backdrops from Joann's online, and they sent everything in separate packages....10 packages! So crazy! I have several Reader's Digests that I bought just for the covers. I love them! When I was a kid, my mother had a subscription where you would get one book a month. I remember reading them. Boy, how I wish I had them all now! Great haul!
Hi Katrina, JoAnns must have different warehouses everywhere because it’s crazy how they do their shipping. I’ve received a big box for the littlest items. I’m tempted to go back and get more of the Reader’s Digest books. They are all so cool looking. Thanks for watching Katrina
The Bigz dies are great as they cut very thick materials or many layers at once of paper. You don’t use your base plate and just sandwich the bigz die between two clear cutting plates. Great price for them too! I love all your items. Happy Crafting!
Cool Haul. When I was a little girl, there was something called Green Stamps. Yes, we collected them and then there was a store with things like home goods, lamps, etc. and we would go see what we could get with our saved Green Stamps. The ones you have are different but seem similar in approach. I can't remember Why we had those because I was really little at the time. Boy, thanks for bringing back the memory. :) FYI - Shelli was the co-founder of Stampin' Up!. Her daughter runs the company now (Sara), but Shelli is still involved too.
My dad had that folding ruler. I’m not sure where it went when he passed. I would have kept it. I remember us using it all the time. Such a beautiful reader’s digest book!! I love vintage books. They are my addiction. You got really great items. Thanks for sharing with us. ✨💜💫
Hi Leslie, I remember my dad had one too. It reminded me of him that’s why I bought it. I think it’s so cool looking. I’m really tempted to go back to the thrift store to see if there are any Reader Digest books left. Thanks for watching. Glad you liked my haul
Glad you are feeling better. Thanks for sharing your haul. I ordered, again, from Joann. Can't wait to see what you do with the stencil. Now, I need to get that cute little vacuum. Thanks for being an enabler. ❤
Hi Diana, I am feeling much better…thanks! I’ll have to find a cool project for the stencil. And isn’t the little vacuum so cute? I haven’t tried it yet, hopefully it works well. Thanks so much for watching
Yes you done great! The big dies was a steal, they sold for about $60 each. The metal steel dies cut awesome. You do have to have the extend clear plates to use for the one's you got. Have fun with them and all your other goodies.❤❤❤
Hi Maggie, you purchased some great things! The folding ruler was used mostly by carpenters. My grandfather had one, I think I still have it somewhere. 😊 I’ve seen those stamp books before, but not often. I have some of the “green stamp” books. We had them when I was little. When you shopped at certain grocery stores, you would get some based on how much you spent, then one the book was filled, you could go to the green stamp store and trade them in for products- like radios, towels, kitchen stuff, etc. oh the good old days! 😊
I remember s&h stamps also. My mom would let me put in the books when I was little. I loved it.❤😊I don't have a big shot so I don't know. But I know you love it. Have fun sweetie 😘 I love that you are actually getting a little of real ephemera.
So glad you’re feeling a bit better. Loved your finds at the thrift stores and such. I remember when I was young my dad had that wooden ruler….back then there weren’t the type of metal pull out tape measures so these wooden ones were used in that way. I remember my grocery store gave out similar stamps when you purchased groceries and you saved them for things like lamps and such. Yes your big shot steel rule dies will work fine in your big shot. Because they are the XL (extra long) ones they work using the extended cutting plates. You can use them with normal size plates but will have to die cut half way then remove and move cutting plates to other end and cut the rest keeping the cut pieces in place while doing it. That’s why easiest when the longer plates. I own the one that was a SU matchbox one and it cuts a cute little matchbox with a wrap around that slides over it…like the old fashion matchboxes. The decorative pieces you can use to cut a window in the top slide part or make a cute label to glue on. Just look them up and you’ll see tons of ideas. Great prices for them too…very good finds. Those type of dies will cut material, chipboard, heavy materials too. I love your big flower book. I have been trying to find one for a long time now. I just watched a great RU-vid posted today where they made the cutest envelope pockets made with floral book pages. If you want the link just email me. Sorry this is so long…🤪….take care!
Hi Belinda, I’m always excited when I find cool things while thrifting. I remember my dad used to have the same type of wooden ruler too. I’m curious to see how the XL dies cut. I’m looking into the extended plates. I really want to play with them. I was also looking for the flower books like this one too. I really lucked out. I was told about the pockets and envelopes. Really want to try that too. Thanks so much for all the info Belinda. All tips and tricks are always appreciated. :)
Those stamps were used in World War II- for food. Every American was issued a series of ration books during the war. The ration books contained removable stamps good for certain rationed items, like sugar, meat, cooking oil, and canned goods. A person could not buy a rationed item without also giving the grocer the right ration stamp. That’s an awesome find!!😊
Hi Maggie, I stopped by to check out your haul video. I'm not into journaling but love seeing watching craft hauls. I wanted to mention when I was a young girl living in Rochester, N.Y. my mom used to collect S & H Green stamps from out local grocery store. Mom would get a catalog from S & H that would have items from home good, to toys , etc. Bad would trade them in per required books of stamps and get in the mail what we ordered.
Hi Roxanne, thanks for stopping by. Those stamp books are amazing. I’ve read so many cool stories about them. I’m tempted to go back and get the others I left behind. Thanks so much for watching
Hi Maggie, you always find the coolest stuff thrifting! I love your hauls. I recently ordered charms from Joannes and today received 3 boxes… 1 set of charms in each😳 🙄. Crazy!
Nice haul! Those stamp books were traded for household goods. There were catalogs for each store that gave them out and they usually didn't offer the same things. Nice find on the XL dies - you just need the long plates for them. They work in just about all of the manual systems - you just have to adjust your sandwich.
You still sound sick, poor girl. Hot sauce playing cards, now that’s right up my alley!❤🌶️ Joann is always slow on shipping, and then they frustrate us with piecemeal shipping. Those Creative Expressions stamps are so pretty! It sounds like you have project ideas up your sleeve and I can’t wait!! Oh, that folding scale (ruler), how many of those I used when working in construction! I remember helping my mother fill out those stamp books, then looking through the catalog and picking out what we wanted. This is what happens when you have an old subbie!! I remember all the old stuff. 😆
Hey Girl! Thankfully I’m much better now. I love finding cool new playing cards at 5 Below. The shipping for JoAnns is ridiculous. I’ve even received a big box for the smallest item. It’s crazy. I love reading all the back stories from the items I’ve hauled. They are so fun. It sheds a lot more appreciation on my thrifted finds. I think I want to go back and get more of the stamp books. Now that I know what they were used for, I think it would be super cool to have more. Thanks for sharing Rhonda
Hi friend!! So glad you are feeling better!!😊 You hauled a lot of cool things and scored with the dies! Our thrift stores over here suck and they never have anything, not even books..sigh...lol
Yes all the bugs dies can be used with the big shot. I keep mine just for use with these steel rule dies because they can cut many different kinds of materials.
Maggie book with stamps when you got groceries what amount your groceries were you got that many stamps you traded for items we got Christmas gifts for kids you hauled great. Items thank you for sharing please take care ❤ Theola
I use those big dies in my big shot all the time. I have a stack of em. They are hard to come by. I have a clock face with moving hands, multi layer flowers that you put together, and these multi layer flowers on those type of dies are gorgeous. And by the way they cut fabric beautifully. Your sandwich will be different in that you do not generally use the platform. My big shot platform has instructions on it how to use those dies. My big shot is three years old. But I think the platforms are the same. But I do believe you have to use the longer plates with them. At least that is how I understand it and how I do it. But since they also cut fabric I have been also buying used accuquilt dies that fit into the accuquilt go machines and using that with my sissix machine, same as those sissix bigz dies . And since they are quilting shapes I love the octagon shapes, etc. I am working on a journal where I will record and journal all my quilts and hope to make paper miniature versions of the quilt blocks. ESP the English paper piecing and slow stitching style ones.
Great haul. Looks like you have lots of fun in your future. 💜 You could also use some of the pages from your flower book to create pages for signatures, envelopes, tags, whatever you use other book pages for. Julie from camelia crafts does some beautiful things with flower pages.
Great haul Maggie. I’m going to see if I can get the passport stamp set. As others have said the stamp books could be redeemed for merchandise. My mom used S & H green stamps for our Christmas presents one year. On Saturdays my brothers and I would paste the stamps in the books. You must have the XL plates to use that XL die.
I hope you were able to order the passport stamps. I hear everyone is having a hard time finding them. I’m really happy I bought the stamp books. They are so much fun to have in my collection. Thanks for the tips on the XL plates. I’ll look into that.
Great haul!! Oh yes on the Bigz dies. I have 1 (a circle) that is the only thing that will cut the acetate I have. The blades are inside the die, very cool. I've read many dozens of condensed Readers Digests (the color is great!) and I love the ruler. I think the gold bond stamps were 10 or 25 cents a week per stamp. I have to tell you, I've gotten a zillion clear stamps from temu, but honestly on so many of them I can't get a decent impression even with fun foam on my platform. The Tim Holtz are top notch. I'll only buy name brand ones from now on.
Hi Jean, I’m really excited to try out the big dies. Those are going to be fun. I just have to figure out the sandwich order to put if through the machine. I’m really wanting to get the Readers Digests I left behind. The covers are beautiful. I’ve never had a problem with the temu stamps but definitely get the originals verses dupes. There’s a huge difference. Thanks for watching Jean
When I was in grade school everyone chipped in and donated their full books of stamps. The nuns were able to purchase a new station wagon. I am 71 so that was quite a while ago. You got so many stamps based on how much you spent on groceries.
What a great haul! Well done with the big Sizzix dies, you can definitely use them with a Big Shot, you might find a set of extended cutting plates useful but some of them have multiple pieces so you can run each end through with regular plates. Hope you’re fully recovered soon.
The stamp books are called trading stamps, there were Green Stamps and Top Value stamps also, you received stamps when you purchased groceries at different grocery stores. When you filled a book you could use that stamps catalog and choose a gift. My mom and I saved the Gold Bond, Green Stamps and Top Value and Mom got several things with her filled books! It was kind of the same thing as getting dishware with grocery purchase! Several grocery stores gave you a dish, cup, saucer, or bowl for each (usually) $5.00 you spent! Each week the item changed you could get! Also the Reader's Digest condensed books came as a subscription, you received a different one every month or more. These were shortened novels (condensed) so you could see if you wanted to buy the actual complete book, or just short reads of longer books so you didn't have to read the whole novel!
Hi Sandi, wow! You are filled with information. That was so great! I didn’t know about the trading stamps. I just thought it was very cool looking. Now that I know the background, I want to get more. The books were a very clever idea. I love that. I’m glad I bought it. They had others, now I want to go back and get those too. Thanks so much for all the info. That was fun to read. Thanks for watching Sandi
Maggie you lucked out on the Taylor Made passport stamps. I’ve been on the lookout for them. I checked Amazon but it doesn’t come up. Maybe they sold out already, I’ll keep checking. As usual great video, thanks for sharing ❤😊
Hi Christine, I guess I did get lucky on my order for the passport stamps. I was trying to look for them too because others have been commenting that they can’t find them either and yes, they seem to be sold out everywhere.
What a great haul! I want to buy everything too 😂😂 Great steal on those BIG dies. Woohoo...I hope you make a video testing them out. I've always been too intimidated to buy them. Lol
I heard, not sure if it is true or not. That Hobby Lobby is in progress of changing their business model over to even more home decor and that paper crafting products will be cut way back on what they carry. They have also reportedly had some sort of disagreement with sissix and are not going to carry any of the sissix products any longer. I was told this by a member of a stores management team. But still find some of what she said hard to believe, so not sure if we are about to lose one of our local places for supplies. Our Michael’s hardly ever even has a customer in it since Covid, almost scary quiet. Our local Joanne’s still seems to have a relatively steady flow of customers at least visibly when inside, but the parking lot almost always looks empty. So, we also lost Tuesday morning. It all makes me sad.
If that is true, I’ll be really disappointed. I like shopping at Hobby Lobby for supplies. Michaels has never really done it for me. It’s rare when I actually find something that is worth buying. JoAnns I go only when Tim Holtz products are on sale. Lol
Hi I'm a new subscriber and am enjoying your videos. I can't wait to make some of the things you make. I was wanting to know where did you get your tweezers at?
Hello and thanks for subscribing. Welcome to my channel. My gold tweezers I purchased from Amazon. It comes in a set of 2. Here’s the link in case you’re interested:amzn.to/3IqkOw6
Hi Maggie, so glad your feeling better....I wonder if you can share the link for the passport stamp? I've been trying to find it since Margret from SevenPlaza did a project but I can't seem to find it....Ty I hope you continue you getting better...❤❤
Hi Kerry, It looks like everyone is trying to find that stamp set. It’s sold out everywhere. You can try Googling it to see if other companies are carrying it yet. Sorry I couldn’t help
You lucked out with Joann's. I ordered several items during their sale and after I checked out and got a confirmation email they said that nothing was available, it was all out of stock. I was so disappointed....and kinda mad that I entered all my payment information for no reason....nothing said it was out of stock as I was ordering it.
Hi Christine, I wonder if while you were placing your order they went out of stock? That’s really weird. Sorry that happened to you. I can understand how frustrating that could be.
Hi Angel, when I read your comment I thought what a cool idea. So I tried it and darn it! Mine is missing a piece. It’s not long enough. Lol! Thanks for watching Angel
@@SunsetCrafts sorry. They used several to do that. Maybe if you google it you will see some images how they did it. They used 2-3 sections for each length of the Star. They were very cool. Good luck
Ok I give up. Can’t find those particular Creative expression stamps anywhere. Do you have a link for the one with the signatures? The one labeled Journal
Hi Dana, I’m so sorry. Looks like everyone is ordering them after I shared because now they’re out of stock everywhere. Hopefully they’ll restock soon. Sorry I couldn’t help
