Thank you SO much for recording and posting this! Ed was pointing at my son (just before the 6:00 mark, and then again at 7:00 ) where he motioned for him to come up to the stage... then throws him a guitar pick... it happened so fast! I was hoping somebody had footage of it! 😊 They are just the BEST! Wonderful videos to watch and re-live the night. Thanks again.

This was a song from the movie "VARSITY BLUES" , pretty much a teenager movie yet at 66 I still found myself enjoying it. Heard this song at the end so I pulled out my acoustic and learned it. An easy but catchy tune so I learned it it about 5 minutes. I've liked a lot of COLLECTIVE SOUL's music but hadn't heard them for a long time. All you guitar players if you want an easy but good song for your reperoritoire take a listen and learn it. Take care all.
This is my favorite song by collective soul and I really like this live rendering. However: while I realize this performance was recorded with a phone, the vocals (and instruments) are muddy with echo. You can blame the venue, blame the sound engineer, but getting the sound right is ultimately the bandleader's responsibility and needs to be done long before the audience arrives.
It was recorded with a Panasonic Lumix, as a matter of fact. The Mohegan Sun is a medium-sized arena, so it's not ideal for concerts, although many bands perform there each year.
Thanks again for bringing this to all us fans. I'm not far from Mohegan Sun, and wish I had been there. Must say, I also really love the (1999) video to this song, easily among my top ten of the nineties. I understand what Ed is saying about the hollow, consumerist lifestyle, searching for something deeper: a different path, different dreams that may have been left among the discarded ideals of youth. Yet I still ponder the line "I weaken with each voice that sings..." But again, in the official video, the sound was (and is) of very poor quality. This is ultimately Ed's fault he should not leave it out there that way. Thankfully, some tech-oriented fan has corrected this, and both the picture and sound quality for the restored vid are of VERY high quality: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FXDWkyGJbgE.html Hope this was helpful.
I love this band so much. I had an experience when I saw them in Charleston SC in 2016. They almost got rained out but came out anyway on a barely dry stage to play at least 45mins. This very annoying, rude and drunk girl kept talking over Ed’s singing.”
