At age 19, Colleen Patrick-Goudreau read Diet for a New America and her life’s awakening and vocation began.
Today, over thirty years later, she's known as “The Joyful Vegan,” and is a recognized thought leader on ethical, compassionate, and healthy living. Colleen is the bestselling author of multiple books, a podcast host and speaker, plus a leader of vegan trips around the world.
Today, we have a long overdue catch-up about the fascinating twists and turns that our own lives have taken-and we celebrate the massive growth and interest in all things plant-based. She teaches us all how to live with more kindness and compassion for ALL living beings.
I’ve admired Colleen's work for many years and, after today's conversation, I know you will too.

❤Colleen podcast. So intuitive, thoughtful & compassionate. Benji, charlottes web, dumbo still make me cry & part of me being vegan now.

The 30 day challenge is the way i went vegan 2 years ago. My only regret is not doing it sooner. Thank you, Colleen!

Hi Colleen and Rip...I'm new to whole foods, plant-based, and I wondered if you thought soy curls are a good or bad thing for people. They can taste so much like chicken. Does use of them in recipes hold people back from completely dropping animal foods?

I love soy curls. I'd say go for it. Depending how new you are, you'll go in stages. First focus on obvious meat dairy etc. Then start examining labels for hidden ingredients like milk powder in potato chips for eg. My advice is to avoid processed food as much as possible. Learn lentils rice and beans. Best of luck 💚💚💚

I’ve followed this woman for 20 years. She is one of the most articulate and kind people in this field. I could listen to her all day long.

I love her book Vegan's Daily Companion! It's one of my favorite books that I will keep and re-read. It was one of my first vegan "Bibles". Hugely impactful and inspiring.

My husband is not plant based. He eats almost anything, but he won't kill anything. If he removes a tick from the dog, he takes it outside. If there is a bug or spider, he will catch it and release it outside. A week ago, a bee flew down my shirt and stung me on the chest and he was worried about the bee. I just don't understand why he can't bridge that gap between not harming any living creature and choosing to eat in a way that causes massive harm to living creatures. He won't watch any of the documentaries because they make him cry. He will eat whatever I cook for him, but he cooks meat for himself and orders meat when we eat out. He's actually underweight, but has pre diabetes and a heart arythmia, but won't try the whole food plant based lifestyle.

Some people I couldn't budge on animal rights even though I know they care. But I did get them to go WFPB for their health once I lost my plot and started pleading with them not to die and leave me. I have no pride, I'll use whatever I think might work and then some. Good luck, I hope you can finally get through to him. I get it. 💚💚💚💚💚🥒🍃🥗©️

Sending thanks to Colleen and Rip for this conversation. Many days I just want to dig a hole and hide thinking we will never break free of the dominion mindset, but dialogue like this brings me back.
