It will be an interesting story to watch. Social media creates a lot of "influencers", who can make money off their content. But if you are a live performance artist, there is a conflict between art and commerce. When the artist/performer pays another professional to manage their NIL, that is a whole other business. I absolutely agree that college athletes deserve to profit off their efforts. Colleges have been doing it for years. But it will be a bumpy ride.

What pisses me off on people who think the NCAA or any college sport will go under is that remember this. Olympians even today are still considered Amateurs sometimes, but have been allowed to get paid via NIL since 1971 according to the IOC. And the IOC like the NCAA DON'T HAVE TO PAY THEM SQUAT DIRECTLY. People thought the International Olympic Committee would go extinct (like with the NCAA and college sports), ahem where are we 50 years later? Olympics are still here perfectly intact. So olympians have been cashing in for much longer and no one has been complaining.
@Mrcharles.
@Mrcharles. 2 года назад
It’s only going to benefit football and basketball programs. You are not going to get any NIL from a non-revenue sport. This was a dumb move by the NCAA and I expect to see more non-revenue sports get the axe.
@kevindao1103
@kevindao1103 2 года назад
@@Mrcharles. If you're saying you don't expect it from any non-revenue sport, remember that Olympians even when they are still considered amateurs in the NCAA's eyes have been allowed to pursue them since 1971. See my post above.

This is wrong. College athletes get a free education room and board all they can eat and other perks like free tutoring. To have them make money off they’re image while getting a free education, this is going to fuel big schools, especially with a strong football programs, to separate from the pack. Students will go to the schools that pay the best for their NIL and the entire notion of education is down the drain. But it’s already been that way for a while

This destabilized the market a bit. Athletes are getting smarter and may take more risks financially. Also with how often players are traded in the NBA this might focus the market on a more digital nand international basis investments that are not locally based to prevent bias trades and advantages to locations.

It's great that they are profiting, but they are no longer amateur athletes. Their predecessors made sacrifices to keep amateur status. Also a wealthier athlete trains better with better equipment, so NCAA records need to be adjusted for amateur and pro NCAA athletes.

People who are against this dont have a clue how hard it is playing at the division 1 level. You can have a full ride and still struggle. Its literally just enough to go to class and eat school given meals. If you want to do somthing on your free time , you have no money. You cant work, so you cant even save up to buy a car, and not all athletes recive full rides. Coaches dont have unlimited scholarships, so the there are plenty of students that are deep in loans because they cannot work to earn income. But this is a great way for other players to make some income while playing even if they are not in the spotlight in the sport, the can create their own. Plus there is coaches getting paid millions while some student athletes on their roster have to pay for themselves.

@JodabeniTV
@JodabeniTV 2 года назад
@@evacody1249 no , but non-athletes could always make money off of their own likeness without any repercussions. That is the issue, the moment you’re an athlete the school would own your likeness rights and sell it if they want , and you would get nothing.
