This weekend we were able to take a trip down to Conway, South Carolina to check out some of the best college baseball action in the nation, competing in Baseball at the Beach. We were able to watch Duke, George Mason, Indiana, and Coastal battle it out on the diamond.
Springs Brooks Stadium is one of the coolest venues in college baseball in my opinion. Of course, with the school being located close to Myrtle Beach, the stadium itself really leans into that beach and vacation vibe you would expect to come with the territory. From an awesome boardwalk all the way around the outfield, to Adirondack chairs with a flawless view of the action, Coastal really has it all!
I wanted to start off my college baseball coverage in 2024 at Baseball at the Beach for a number of reasons. First of all, its a quick and easy drive down small roads that are rarely crowded. Second of all and more importantly, around 8 years ago to this date, I made my collegiate baseball debut, way back in 2016. That debut was the first game ever played in Springs Brooks Stadium, we got absolutely crushed, I gave up 2 earned runs, fans ate us alive all game. I came in when it was about 15-2 in the 8th no one cared, but I struck out the side. I remember the feeling of coming off the mound, while these drunk frat dudes were yelling the most obscene things they could hurl my way. That feeling I got in my core, was the moment I knew I loved college baseball. The remainder of the weekend me and my friends at App got ripped a part by ODU and UVA so it was a very full circle baseball tournament for me, now as I look at my career in the rearview.
